Restaurant hidden gems in Leeds

MarvellousDay · 17/10/2024 19:27

Travelling to Leeds for a couple of days for work and would love some restaurant recommendations. Ideally more hidden independent /local placesthan chains and not exorbitantly expensive. I am happy to eat most things so not tooo fussy but would love something a bit different.

Found a thread on Birmingham when I visited recently and the recommendations were spot on so hoping for similar outcomes.

Sukhothai (excellent Thai food)
Theravadu (South Indian)

FragrantFrog · 17/10/2024 19:31

If you like Italian, Capri Chapel Allerton is good.

thenightsky · 17/10/2024 19:32

Oh and Gaucho for amazing steaks, but pricey.

White Cloth Hall is nice for lunch

Letsnotargue · 17/10/2024 19:35

Betty's?! In Leeds?

I second the recommendations above for Tharavadu and Sukhothai. I was impressed by Mommy Thai as well - it's cheap, but the food is amazing.

If you're there for work, I imagine you'll be staying centrally, so there are lots of options without travelling out as far as Chapel Allerton.

Zucco in Meanwood is very good. Italian small plates.

blotchyskin · 17/10/2024 19:40

Is Salvo's in Headingly still open?

TarantinoIsAMisogynist · 17/10/2024 19:42

Stuzzi is also amazing for Italian small plates - and very central

AuntieMarys · 17/10/2024 19:45

Iberica for tapas
Sarto for fresh pasta
Indian tiffinroom

GreenSmithing · 17/10/2024 19:47

Agree that Lupe's Cantina is great. A bit out of town but that's what makes it a hidden gem. I recommend booking. You might not gey in otherwise.

Tharavadu is also good, but less of a hidden gem. It's very central and pretty popular.

Sarto, which is down past the bus station does excellent and unusual pasta dishes.

Stuzzi is amazing, as is Sarto.

Lupe's Cantina as said by PP, Jinos Thai cafe in Headingley, alls well as Cats Pyjamas. Stuzzi great too. Main chef Leeds born and bred too!!

IggyAce · 17/10/2024 20:35

I too recommend Sukhothai, fab food.

YearsofYears · 17/10/2024 20:37

Mowgli

rumred · 17/10/2024 20:37

Bundobust and Prashad. Magnificent.

idontlikefruitpastilles · 17/10/2024 20:39

Yep Lupes is great, too spicy for me even though I tried to order mild options!
Yep sukothai is delicious.
or Zaap for just as good food in a more relaxed environment.

idontlikefruitpastilles · 17/10/2024 20:39

Ooh yes Bundobust! delicious. I had my first date with my partner there, fond memories.

HermioneWeasley · 17/10/2024 20:42

Viva Cuba tapas

TermsOut · 17/10/2024 20:43

I’m surprised by the Mowgli and Cats Pyjamas recommendations. Have you been recently? Completely gone commercial and downhill.

My recommendation is House of Fu. Or La Taberna for tapas. Or agree with Tharavadu
