What has happened to toilet paper?

I know its a rather odd topic for discussion.

Used to buy Wairose essential stuff. It was thick, long rolls, unbleached, and plain (untextured). They've changed it now and it's the same as everything else; flimsy, quilted/textured and leaa on a roll.
Is there anything proper out there? Just bought 'who gives a crap'and disappointed to discover that that's also thin and textured.
I don't want fragrances, or texture or stuff your fingers go through. I don't want stuff so flimsy that you have to use half a roll for a bowel movement.
Doss such a product exist any more? What is this new trend for mediocre stuff?

This Tesco stuff is fine:

£8.25 for 12, so not as cheap as you'd want.

I use Sainsbury's, 16 rolls for £6. It's very good!

Who Gives a Crap

Comes all the way from China.

@marmaladeandpeanutbutter

I though it was 'ok'

then went back to Anrex and how much softer the Andrew was, was instantly noted!

I always used to use Andrex, then noticed a huge decline in it when the 'waves' print came out, tried loads since then, but ended up back with Andrex

nowhere near as good as it used to be, but still the best I've found for me.

i swear by cheeky panda bamboo loo roll. Its fantastic.

Elderflower14 · 17/10/2024 16:54

We buy these. Excellent.

Aldi basics here - don't see any point in buying pricey loo roll at all.

Decent toilet paper makes life better. Obvs not an essential, but worth it if you can afford it.

SuePreemly · 17/10/2024 17:03

Save yourself the hassle of trying loads: Sainsbury's double rolls are top! They really do last ages and are £5.25 for 8(16) and are really decent quality too.

APurpleSquirrel · 17/10/2024 17:05

Who Gives A Crap Bamboo toilet roll - strong & not linty.
It makes sense it comes from China as it's made from bamboo.

Lorrymum · 17/10/2024 17:07

Another vote for Cheeky Panda. I was forever in search of the ideal loo roll and this stuff is best by far.

Does everyone remember the toilet roll you used to get at schools? It was like wiping your bum on greaseproof paper. You could probably have written your homework on it.

Yep, the special waterproof coating so you'd always end up with wee on your hand 😫

SuePreemly · 17/10/2024 17:13

Oooh izal! Absolutely appalling stuff. Used to take a loo roll from home in my school bag because I hated it so much.

Often used the izal for tracing diagrams etc too 🤣

PrincessHoneysuckle · 17/10/2024 17:15

It doesn't last as long that's for sure no matter what brand you buy

Ebeneser · 17/10/2024 17:20

Anisty · 17/10/2024 15:28

OMG, I think that’s the one 🤣

Evenstar · 17/10/2024 17:22

We use Cheeky Panda as well, but the Cushelle ones without the centre are OK too

BunnyLake · 17/10/2024 17:26

The inner roll is just getting bigger and bigger while the actual paper is getting less (and thinner). 😡

ElaborateCushion · 17/10/2024 17:31

Cushelle quilted is our go to both at home and work. I never used to like quilted toilet roll, but it's the only stuff that your hand doesn't go through nowadays.

Buy in bulk when it's on special offer as it is £££!

Went on a cruise recently and the paper is designed to disintegrate the second a water droplet gets within 2 foot of it so DH declared after his first home poo that it was so nice to be home with decent loo roll! 😂

BashfulClam · 17/10/2024 17:32

The M&S stuff with the stars in it is great.

marshmallowfinder · 17/10/2024 17:46

Asda shades here too.

RudolphsDashing · 17/10/2024 17:53

I like Costco. It's not the cheapest but it is nice and thick.

I agree with you though. It's all crap now. I hate it when my hand gets wet!

LividSquid · 17/10/2024 17:56

Cheeky Panda from Amazon, hands down. I have it on subscribe n save so don’t have to think about it, other than to hate using any other loo roll.

Sunsetsarethebest · 17/10/2024 18:00

Oooo, I completely agree, it has been annoying me so much for the last year or so. We were getting through twice the amount, if not more. I used to like sainsburys own one but I have switched to cushelle double rolls, which are decent and don't anger me as the kids aren't having to use 3 rolls a day!

Augustus40 · 17/10/2024 18:10

Comfy Soft from Home Bargains is the best place to do your business. So to speak!
It lasts me and 19 yr ds 3 weeks. 6 rolls. 50 percent extra on each roll apparently. £1.99.

IZAL! horrific stuff 🤣

ToBePerfectlyHonest · 17/10/2024 18:19

I’ve been thinking exactly the same about the Waitrose essentials one for about a year now. It used to be excellent quality and value.

I bought Andrex last week, but were really getting through loads of it at the moment and I don’t think anything has changed but the toilet roll!
