What has happened to toilet paper?

I know its a rather odd topic for discussion.

Used to buy Wairose essential stuff. It was thick, long rolls, unbleached, and plain (untextured). They've changed it now and it's the same as everything else; flimsy, quilted/textured and leaa on a roll.
Is there anything proper out there? Just bought 'who gives a crap'and disappointed to discover that that's also thin and textured.
I don't want fragrances, or texture or stuff your fingers go through. I don't want stuff so flimsy that you have to use half a roll for a bowel movement.
Doss such a product exist any more? What is this new trend for mediocre stuff?

I used to be fine with Andrex but I find even that is rubbish now. I buy the huge packs of Cushelle now, only ones that I find decent (don’t like the quilted ones) and if you buy big enough packs from somewhere like Lidl it’s good enough value for money.

I agree. I don't know the answer but I know it's not Andrex. Will be trying Cushelle as per previous poster.

Asda shades so soft toilet roll is pretty decent. Comes in larger rolls so it lasts longer too

I know. I want nice toilet paper like you find in a hotel, but it doesn’t exist

I use a toilet wipe now as they are like sandpaper on your bum.

Morrisons own 'Oh So Soft' double rolls are still good. 12 for £8 at the moment. Last ages and much stronger than Andrex.

I don't know, but I have also found even the expensive quilted Andrex is rubbish now. Any recommendations of toilet paper that doesn't fall apart gladly taken.

Also, toliet paper seems much more "linty" these days, I thought it might be my ageing derriere so I asked my husband and he also thinks toliet paper ain't like it used to be ( mind you he is no spring chicken either!)
We have changed from Andrex to Cushelle, that has improved things a bit.

I tried some loo rolls from Home Bargains and have to say they are strong, very soft and reasonably cheap, I used to buy the double rolls from Tesco own range, as they last longer, but they seem like sand paper compared to the Home Bargains ones.

Regina (from Waitrose) is peak toilet paper softness IME.

@TeabySea I find that all toilet paper is harder than it used to be. even andrex!! pain in the arse, literally!!

It's all thin sheets, and all quilted/textured, so it seems.

Asda Shades is about the best I've found

I use bumboo banboo toilet paper. Buy a big box of 48 rolls and it lasts for 3 months 😳😂

Asda Shades (made by Cushelle btw) is OK. I like Nicky which I buy in bulk from Amazon but it is textured. I find toilet roll seems to instantly dissolve when encountering moisture nowadays which means you need a handful rather than a couple of sheets.

I find Lidl 3ply is very good

The only one I like using now is the cushelle tubeless one. It's lovely and thick so You don't risk your finger poking through and jabbing you up the arse as you wipe! Although out of desperation this week I've had to resort to Aldi's toilet roll instead.

I thought it was just me! Toilet paper has been ‘crap’ since we had the really high inflation. I think they started making it more cheaply and haven’t gone back to the former quality.

I have a very leafy palm in my bathroom, just above the toilet roll holder..... The fluff and lint lands on it is ridiculous. I have to dust it every week! The main bathroom which has a box, rather than a roller, doesn't get linty at all.

I was a Waitrose buyer too. I have just tried Andrex which is better, but agree with others, don't want quilted, want a longer roll, with a smaller tube, like we used to get. Waitrose say they have reduced the price, which they have, but I, and a thousand other reviewers online, would prefer to pay the extra £1 and have a decent roll.

I understand they are all made in the same factory anyway, it's probably some bollocks save the environment initiative.

My favourite is Andrex but NOT the normal or quilted type, I like their 'mega rolls'.
Lasts for ages and is like how toilet roll used to be years ago.

I used to get Andrex but the quality is not like it used to be. I now use Cheeky Panda bamboo toilet rolls. They are a bit more expensive but last for ages as you don't need to double up the sheets and are also soft and strong.

Was going to say this. Sturdy. Not fancy in any way.

I second this. Nowadays I go out of my way to get Asda Shades as I think it's better than any of the branded stuff.
