I went to the doctor recently . He said "and of course you will be soon Turning 40" and he turned and looked at me like I was an absolute geriatric

Was talking with my lovely new manager, who was about 25 years, about something that was a bit of a task. I said, "oh, I'll have to get my jumpsuit on like Anneka" and he had absolutely no idea what I was on about, but did say i'd look fierce in a jumpsuit. I had to explain the premise of the programme, and at precise moment I realised I was old and not to quote programmes from the 80s to my much younger manager.

I don't get this reference either, and I'm 40!

I would guess late 80s/early 90s? Goes in my head with Gladiator's and Noel's House Party. Think you said upthread you were born in 1984 as was I.

1989 to 1995. 7 series on bbc 1.

Ah I see. I didn't live in England for some of those years. My family moved abroad between 1990 to 1995.

So that's why I didn't see it

Though I think gladiators were just well known as a thing. I don't remember ever actually seeing it on tv. But I knew the programme existed.

A lot of the time it's not really to do with age though. It's just as much culture and upbringing. I have a (abusive) ex who was always very mock horrified (I can't think about the right word, but think along the lines of "oh, you poor thing. You can't help being stupid and not having seen x") about anything film/TV related that I didn't know. When it was actually just that we'd had different upbringings.

So you might judge our ages differently, but we were 6 months apart.

And yes I know its a lighthearted thread. I'm just thinking aloud as it were.
