What smell hits right to your soul and takes you somewhere else?

I know the title probably sounds like I'm on drugs or something! 😂
I've had a truly terrible 13 hours at work, stressed to the max, upsetting all round. I'm sitting on the sofa and just opened the window a crack to get some fresh air, and the smell of a wood burner is creeping in.
I cannot explain it but that smell just calms my very soul. When I breathe that smell in I'm literally outdoors in the middle of nowhere, possibly where I grew up, possibly some imagined fantasy world. I am completely free. When I die, I want to be somewhere breathing that scent!
Does anyone else have a smell that has that effect on them?
Once again, I must stress, I am not. On. Drugs. 😂😂 Just been a very trying day!

Gun oil, takes me back to helping me father clean his rifle.
Lilies, my mother loved them.
4711, my grand aunt always had a bottle on her dresser, I visited the museum simply to indulge my memories of her.

Night scented stock. Takes me to the long hot summers of the mid 90s when I was in my late teens and just discovering life.

AgileGreenSeal · 15/10/2024 21:52

A turf fire

The smell of autumn when it's cold but sunny. Takes me back to my first few weeks of university, and the joy of finding my feet in a world that was completely new.

Firefighters

Erm, Fire lighters' perhaps?!

Ginmonkeyagain · 15/10/2024 21:58

@LadyChilli ooh night scented stocks. We had some growing by the porch of our house growing up and it reminds me of long summer evenings when I was a young teen when we were allowed to be feral.

Nina Ricci perfume and wool jumpers remind me of hugging my mum when I was little.

Vaseline deoderant and Gucci Envy, second year of university as me and my room mate both wore them, smells of getting ready for nights out.

Elizabeth Taylor's White Diamonds --instantly takes me back to being with my lovely grandmother. ❤️ It's not a fragrance one comes across very often these days but once in a great while I'll catch it in the air.

Oil of Olay

Horses, the manure and general horsey smell. Takes me back to my teen years of riding.

My 8 year old son's bedroom. To me it still smells like him as a baby. Sweet, soft, warm, I'm clinging onto him being little with my dear life. Cuddling up for stories at the end of a busy day is the best moment ever. Also HORSES!!! The hay. The leather tack, even the poo! To me it's freedom, outdoors and pure pleasure

Badlands1 · 15/10/2024 22:03

@Willowback I totally get the autumn smell - as does youngest DS, everyone else just looks at us like we are barking when we go on about it

Atrixo hand cream. Takes me back 50 years to my nana’s fireside. Lovely thoughts.

Aww 😊 think I remember that smell too

XChrome · 15/10/2024 22:05

Lilacs. Delicious. I used to have a lilac hedge that was about fifty feet long. The smell when they were in bloom was out of this world. Sadly, I went by my old house and the current owner had cut them down.

The Christmas decorations box as a kid - I will never forget that smell of tinsel! It brings back such excitement for that festive season! Our Xmas decoration boxes now just do not have that 80s/90s smell 😫
