Boeuf Bourgignon with Yorkshire puddings. Yes or no?

I say yes because BB is simply a beef casserole, albeit from a French recipe, and beef goes with YPs. Plus the nice ones from the supermarkets are ready easy to cook.

It's yes from me.

quirkychick · 15/10/2024 14:30

When I lived in Yorkshire, hot, gravy-based food in giant Yorkshire Puddings were pretty normal - and delicious!

Gastropod · 15/10/2024 14:32

I'd say yes as it would be delicious. And if anyone asks, just say it's not yorkshire puddings, it's "savoury clafoutis" - which, technically, it is!

Any gravy based meal goes with Yorkshire pudding.
(dumplings are rubbish, just ignore them)

On behalf of Yorkshire its a NO

However, bb generally has a bottle of red wine in the sauce, more wine for the pre-cooking marinade, delicious fresh herbs, and several hours cooking....
But parameters of content largely thexsame, yes!!

Uh-huh.
And some people add red wine to their roast beef gravy, maybe use herbs in it (trying to avoid any that aren't "delicious" - "Greengrocer, a bunch of that bad-tasting thyme, bay and some rank parsley, if you please!" isn't a phrase you hear often on my lips) and the meat will require cooking to tenderness depending on its type.
I know what BB is.
And I cook a good one.
Thanks all the same.
And that all makes a difference to what carbs you like with it because...?
Pretentiousness?

Anything with gravy deserves a Yorkshire pudding.

It's not gravy though, it's a sauce. If you must have something, BB is accompanied by pasta, mash or rice.

Gravy or sauce not too much difference really. It all does the same job with Yorkshire pudding.

Where Yorkshire pudding is concerned, there are no rules.

theredspindletree · 15/10/2024 15:16

I did it with dumplings the other week and went down a storm

On behalf of Yorkshire, YES.

Anything with gravy/gravylike sauce.
Or indeed just the gravy.

Or
Syrup/jam.

Sounds like York or Harrogate talking there

Wakefield, or thereabouts.

As a Yorkshire women with a Yorkshire DH/ yes. Yorkies (homemade obvs) go with everything.

TheTecknician · 15/10/2024 16:01

I'm in Leeds, West Yorkshire. And I confess, the BB is shop-bought but it was in the reduced section so it would have been rude not to.

Nooooo, dumplings. Has to be dumplings.

Dumplings would be better. I love a dumpling in Winter.

SingingSands · 15/10/2024 16:05

Yes. You can put anything in a Yorkshire pudding.

olderbutwiser · 15/10/2024 16:07

ooh what a brilliant idea. DH carries childhood trauma (not entirely lighthearted) from MIL "stews" so struggles with anything casserole-like. Normally I put mash on top and call it a Pie but tonight I will make Yorkshires and fill them with it. I just need a creative name for it.

FusionChefGeoff · 15/10/2024 16:08

That's a whole body YES from me

ClytemnestraWasMisunderstood · 15/10/2024 17:25

It was a lighthearted response to the point that both dishes were meat, veg and sauce/gravy !
Roasts in our house growing up were generally overcooked in every way, and took most of morning and much stress! Chaos compared to the prep and taste of a french meat, veg and sauce
So no, not being pretentious
Apols for derailing thread, @TheTecknician

West? The proper one then.
Fair enough

FinallyMovingHouse · 15/10/2024 17:44

I would, but I'd rather do parmesan mash.....utterly fabulous together.
