Boeuf Bourgignon with Yorkshire puddings. Yes or no?

I say yes because BB is simply a beef casserole, albeit from a French recipe, and beef goes with YPs. Plus the nice ones from the supermarkets are ready easy to cook.

Yes absolutely. FWIW I think dumplings are a bit rubbish (sorry dumpling lovers!). If I’m going to have extra carbs, I want them to be roast potatoes or Yorkshire pud.

Huge yorkshires are great with this as you can fill them up with stew for serving. Mmm.

Yup I think you nailed it. Dumplings -arrgh - inedible stodge.
Edited to say, but why not Yorkshires AND roasties.....

I also have YP with steak, ale and Stilton pie from the butcher up the road. I'm lucky to be able to buy such nice tuck.

This is how new traditions are made, I think YPs go with any meal that has gravy, so go ahead and try it. I bet its delicious.

I wouldn't eat Yorkshire Puds but my family would eat them with absolutely any dinner with gravy so a stew would be a definite yes (even a posh one!)

soupfiend · 15/10/2024 12:45

Yorkshire puddings go with everything surely?

The question is null and void!!

Onlyonekenobe · 15/10/2024 12:46

For me it would depend on how saucy the boeuf Bourgignon is: too wet and I might prefer dumplings or roast potatoes. More stewy, nothing beats a Yorkshire pud.

10000000000000000000000000%
YES!!!! 😀

itsmylife7 · 15/10/2024 12:48

Anything with gravy deserves a Yorkshire pudding.

FredaFox · 15/10/2024 12:49

Yes and what time do you want me? Sounds delicious!

Namechangeforadhd · 15/10/2024 12:50

Oooh that sounds delicious!

I detest them and would argue they go with nothing!

newnamethanks · 15/10/2024 12:52

Don't like YPs - I know, I deserve to starve - but if I did it sounds like a great idea.

ErrolTheDragon · 15/10/2024 12:53

Hell, yes.
Can't imagine why anyone would say no (other than an unfortunate allergy to flour or eggs). Nowt so queer as folk, I suppose.

Edited

You are of course correct. I should have indicated that both is the most correct option (though I don’t think I’d usually do roast pots with stew - no reason not though!)

AuldSpookySewers · 15/10/2024 12:54

Yes, Yorky puds go with anything as does mint sauce. 😋😋

Highonthehillsisalonelygoatherd · 15/10/2024 12:56

LaMarschallin · 15/10/2024 12:15

Could make big ones and serve the stew in them - bit of a pub grub thing.
Certainly no reason not to have them.
Although, now dumplings have been mentioned...

Serve the stew in a large Yorkshire pud with a dumpling/cobbler topping..... 😋

espressomartinii · 15/10/2024 12:57

Yes absolutely! I'd eat yorkies with everything, because they are delicious!

Crikeyalmighty · 15/10/2024 12:58

@AuldSpookySewers I think the same about horseradish

This.

But also, you must have roast potatoes too. My mum used to make boeuf bourgignon with roasties and the rich gravy with a hot crunchy roast potato is heaven!

TheTecknician · 15/10/2024 13:17

I think we have a reasonable consensus here.

But yes, yorkies go with everything

I was looking forward to my sausage and mash; now I want this!

No, not the suet-based products!!!

BitOutOfPractice · 15/10/2024 14:24

I’m struggling to think of a reason why not. We are having beef bourguignon tomorrow. (Or beef bugger-on as my mom calls it!) and will now be suggesting yorkies to go with it.

LaMarschallin · 15/10/2024 12:26

I'm curious as why the naysayers say nay.
Bouef Bourgignon is, basically, meat with vegetables and sauce.
In the same way as a roast beef dinner is meat, vegetables and sauce (assuming you have gravy and, if you don't, why not?).
Having said that, I don't understand people who think Yorkshire pudding belongs in Christmas dinner.

However, bb generally has a bottle of red wine in the sauce, more wine for the pre-cooking marinade, delicious fresh herbs, and several hours cooking....
But parameters of content largely thexsame, yes!!
