Weird coincidences/spooky stuff

Does anyone else think this is weird and has anyone had any similar weird stuff happen to the them.
My dad passed away in Oct 2004. My childhood home was sold almost a decade later after my mum also passed away. Earlier this year someone started working at the same place as me after getting to know them it turns out they live in my old house. I thought that was weird enough, but then I've just found out a relative if theirs just died and the date of their death is the 20th anniversary of my dad's passing. I'm just it finding it all quite weird.

Anyway anyone else got weird stories/coincidences.

Great thread.
An ex fiancé of mine who I broke up with 17 years ago had this car, and I have lots of fond memories of our journeys in it. I always think about him even today as he will always be the one that slipped through the net. He lives at the opposite end of the country, so miles and miles away. Anyway I was walking out of my Lidl one day and there it was, someone else drove past in it (must have been the new owner). Same car, same reg. I know he sold it after we broke up. I followed it all down the road with my gaze until I couldn't see it anymore. Made me quite sad! But I also thought that the girl driving it had no idea that she just drove past someone who had lots of memories in her car!
Welp 🥺
I just thought, what's the chances of that, especially as we lived so far away, and to drive past as I was walking out of a shop.

Years ago my (now husband) had a dream that I was going to be the new Headteacher at his daughter's school. In the dream he'd received a letter and it said "The governors are pleased to appoint Miss HerbFan as new HT ..."

Prior to this dream and quite some years before, we had been together for 3 years and split up. I married someone else. He had a child with someone else.

I worked in a school 350 miles away from where he lived. The Head of the school I worked at got a new job at my now DH's (but at the time ex boyfriend's) daughter's school.

Mr HerbFan was at a social event at the school so that parents could meet the new HT. He said "oh, it's a long shot, but I have a friend who moved to <UK city> ". The new HT said "yes I know HerbFan quite well, she was one of the teachers at the school I've just come from."

The letter was DH either picking up on something (Karl Jung would have said so) or a bit of a coincidence.

I was staying in Moscow and got chatting to an Italian staying at the same place. We were born on the exact same day/month/year.

HerbFan · 14/10/2024 00:01

Sorry about the random brackets around (now husband). I found the above post difficult to explain and changed it lots of times, forgot to remove those brackets. I think I meant them to be around (now)!

I met a guy on a hen weekend abroad and had a subsequent short fling with, who had the exact same date of birth as me. Only realised when he came to visit me and I had a nosy at his passport.

Two days before I met DH, I was bemoaning drunkenly to a friend that I was done with men as the ones in books are always far better, and I'd just read for the rest of my life. I'd had a real shitter of a time.

Anyway, had an event and another friend of mine runs up to me. "Giddy, come and meet Mr Giddy! He's right up your street, you'll love him."

Turned a corner and there's this tall, slim, dark haired, dark eyed man with cheekbones to kill and a big nose. A historian, violin playing Norwegian who did archery and was obsessed with the 17th Century. He literally courted me with love letters and all sorts.

Man was like he'd walked out of a book. I called my other friend later and she told me "you'll marry this one." Reader, I did!

Scutterbug · 14/10/2024 02:29

My husband was married before we met, ie I’m the second wife. His first wife remarried and her new husband had the exact same date of birth as my husband and was even the same age!

Years ago I was walking down the high street and had a weird sensation to eat smoked mackerel. I turned a corner and there must have been a fancy dress event or something. In the doorway of a pub was a man dressed up as a mackerel smoking a cigar.

Years ago I had a dream about being in a house which had access to the loft from an upstairs corridor. The loft had lots of timbers arranged to create a sort of internal mezzanine space (a 2 storey loft if you like).
Months after this we were on holiday, and got chatting to someone on a beach. Ended up meeting up with them and going to their house.
They insisted on giving us a house tour. When we got to the upstairs (it was an 'upside-down house with lounge & kitchen upstairs), they pointed to a doorway on the corridor and asked us to guess what was behind it. It was the entrance to a two-level loft with a mezzanine level - a mirror image of what I'd seen in my dream.

I remember walking into my bedroom years ago and I had the strongest feeling of ‘spider’. It wasn’t like I was scared - it was just like a spider announced itself in my mind.
I turned on the light and a huge spider with a bag of eggs was there!

He's an absolute dream, and such a kind kind man. I think lots on this thread are far better in terms of coincidence/spooky but this was always a big "How insane!" moment for me haha!

That's such a lovely way of looking at it! Thank you! 🤗

It's my sons birthday today. As soon as I went over due, my mum said he'll be born on the 14th and he was. It would have been her dad's (my grandfather's 100th birthday). He also shares his birthday with his great grandfather on dhs' side as well. It's a coincidence I like.

quirkychick · 14/10/2024 12:57

@GiddyRobin I have a similar story how I met dp (been together 20+yrs). I was visiting some old friends from university, one of whom said "I've got just the man for you" 2 days before, I inwardly rolled my eyes! However, dp is also tall, dark, slim and handsome with great cheekbones. Not Norwegian or a violinist, but plays guitar well.

That's so lovely! He sounds wonderful! Tall, dark and handsome musicians who are actually nice always feel like they're a romantic daydream, I'm definitely glad they're not haha. There was an immediate eyeroll when she mentioned now DH, too. She was his ex so I thought she was just trying to palm him off on me...until I saw him and spoke to him for about 30 seconds. 🤣 I send her flowers around the same time every year as a jokey thanks!

quirkychick · 14/10/2024 13:10

@GiddyRobin we didn't even live in the same city at the time. Dp was actually in finance, but plays guitar and is into photography. I also had an immediate reaction - unusual for me.

MammaKel · 14/10/2024 13:11

I'll change the name for this one but it was weird.

I was with my ex boyfriend and I wanted to break up with him but decided I couldn't be bothered with the hassle so decided to stay and a voice in my head said " what about Ryan?"

At the time I didn't know a Ryan and was so confused about this voice.

I ended up breaking up with my ex and 3 months later I met a Ryan and we began dating.

We've been together 8 years, married for 6 and have two children ..

I don't know where the voice came from but I'm glad it did!

CatamaranViper · 14/10/2024 13:13

We have weird name repetition in our family, none of it on purpose.

My DB is called Steve (1) and is married to someone called Rebecca (1), DH's sister is called Rebecca (2) and married to someone called Steve (2). Steve (2) also has a daughter from a previous relationship called Rebecca (3). I am also called Rebecca.

Not the real names btw.

I think it's things like this that make meetings so memorable. It's how unusual the reaction is as well as the timing and scenario. I don't think I've ever been bowled over before, and it's the sort of thing I'd usually have said can't happen. Until it did! It weirdly made me a lot less cynical afterwards, because I was totally proven wrong.

My younger sister died when she was 20. Not long afterwards my elder sister had a candle lit beside her bed whilst she was reading. When she blew it out to go to sleep she thought to herself, "Please let me know you're alright". Ten minutes later the candle re-lit.

My dad was a big classical music fan and always listened to Radio 3. A few days after he died my daughter and I were travelling with my sister and brother-in-law in their car. My sister put the radio on and it was Radio 3. Not only does she not listen to Radio 3 but all the pre-set buttons on the radio were set to Radio 3. When she turned it off and then on again all her usual stations were back in place. Even my brother-in-law, who's a staunch non-believer, was stumped at that one.

I work as a childminder and a family who had just moved into the area came to see me about childcare.
Turns out they'd moved into my parents old house where we'd lived previously for 10 years .....and the Mum of the family used to go to school with my next door neighbour....
When I met my husband it turned out that his Nan used to work in my parents' newsagents shop!

OneOliveEagle · 14/10/2024 13:43

This one sticks in my mind as it was so random.

Arranged to meet my friend in Headingly for a coffee. Set off on foot when into my head popped the word ‘paisley’ and the image of the print flashed up. Further down the road I start freaking out as I thought I’d stood on a dead bird. Wrong - just leaves and twigs.

Arrived early and needed to kill time so went into the library. Pulled out a huge encyclopaedia and just opened it. First word I saw, right in the middle of the page ‘paisley’.

On my way home, I took an alternate route home and this time did step on a dead bird.

What I like about this one is that no one ever questions it - I mean why would anyone ever make up such a crap tale.

violetcuriosity · 14/10/2024 14:02

Both my kids dads have the same birthday 😄
