Alexa just played Justin Bieber’s ‘Baby’.

Justin Bieber now has a baby.

Oh my!
Where have the last 15 years gone?! 😳

The other day, we were talking about not having a TV and I said we had gone out and bought one on the day of Live Aid.
'What's Live Aid?'...
Surely it was only a few years ago??

Ah that is a bit long ago to be fair.

It's forty years ago!

Well I am old...

SunsetSkylane · 14/10/2024 11:21

Oh god I also got called a MILF and was like...gee thanks, I'm fuckable even at my advanced age?

I'm 43.

Roundthemoon · 14/10/2024 11:29

What makes me feel old, is I was young for so long.

Now all of a sudden there are people alive who have never experienced the 1980s or 1990s.

I knew the world before they were even born.

See I didn't even take it as a compliment. I just always thought MILF is what a man might call a woman age 45+ who he finds hot. I'm only 35 😭

When teenagers hold doors open for me, and show me respect! BlushGrin

What makes me chuffing angry though is adverts for 'over 55s' where they play fucking Glen Miller and Bill Haley music. People in their 50s and 60s now, grew up with Bowie, Prince, Madonna, The Police, Genesis, Adam and the Ants, Fleetwood Mac, Blondie, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Spandau Ballet, Duran Duran, George Micheal etc etc etc. And in their 20s and 30s (still young) they would have been listening to Spice Girls, Britney Spears, N-Sync, Girls Aloud, Rihanna, Beyonce, Destiny's Child etc etc etc.

These ad makers need to fuck off with that 1950s bollux. Many of the people they are advertising their product at weren't even born then FFS! Hmm

Also sick to fucking death of getting ads - online - for facelifts, teeth whitening, body sculpting, and botox. Shockingly, even though I am a 'relic' in my late 50s, I am happy with the way I look. This shit started as soon as I hit 50. (Mostly on Facebook!) Fucking 50!

See also: ads for walking frames, walking sticks, baths with doors, level access showers, funeral plans. direct cremations, and wills. The ads for all this started when I hit 50.

I am actually proper annoyed about it! 😆

Totally agree!

I also argue this in Care homes, as those who are 80 now were born at the end of WW2, and were listening to the Beatles and the Rolling Stones in their 20s. They don't want Vera Bloody Lynn! 😊

Crikeyalmighty · 14/10/2024 12:05

@Crushed23 indeed- and they don't factor in it takes plenty of cash and an iron willpower which depending on your life situation may not be present!! I remember when nigella Lawson was photographed with Charles Saatchi at her throat and next day she was apparently out house/flat hunting and announced her separation shortly after - I remember thinking , if only it were that easy and for so many women- it just isn't

squashyhat · 14/10/2024 12:20

I was in my local branch of Cafe Nero this morning and they were playing lovely gentle classical music. It was so lovely I made a point of telling the staff as I was leaving how lovely it was. And immediately felt about 102.

Ezzee · 14/10/2024 13:11

DS's GF is 22 her Mum is 38 and I'm old enough to be the Mum's Mum (and I wouldn't have been that young)😞

I dislike driving at night now because my eyes have become really sensitive to the headlights.

We were eating in a cafe and I remarked to my husband how nice it was not to have loud, blaring pop music in the background ...
... then I realised how fuddy-duddy I sounded (I'm 58).
But the big awakening was my DCs (20 & 22) calling The Matrix movie 'the olden days' (I had to describe what a dial-up connection/modem was).

I have that too, really takes the enjoyment out of driving. LED headlights are just too bright

I'm 43 and had to get my first ever glasses for reading this year. Took me way too long to admit I was struggling. I used to have amazing eyesight for reading even the tiniest writing as well.

I'm definitely more sensitive to loud sounds now, weirdly I'm okay with loud gigs and films. But anything else feels like sensory overload

I remember being aghast, when I was in my 20s, at how middle-aged women 'let themselves go'... I had no appreciation of what the ageing process actually was, I thought it was something you could avoid with the 'right attitude and a bit of effort'... ha ha ha, what an ignorant embryo I was! 🙈

This will only get worse because there are far more middle aged women on TV these days (I struggle to think of a presenter on the BBC who is under 40). And as these women are in the public eye they naturally haven't let themselves go and have the body of a 25 year-old etc. So all the youngsters will be thinking 'it's obviously possible to stay thin and look young when you're 50, so why has she gone and let herself go?!'

Yes! When looking good is their job, and they have all the money and time in the world to spend on the best personal trainers and nutritionists and plastic surgeons... It's another way of saying 'You see, women? You've failed again! You can't even age properly like these princesses...'.

We need to change, not how older women look, but how we look at older women...

Same here. I had a form of car insurance that monitored how you drove for a year, and you got brownie points for not driving after dark, and I was maxing out on them... 😆

I always wondered why so many women aged 55+ had such awful ‘helmet hair’ styles. I thought they’d let themselves go … then I began losing my hair :(
i realise now how difficult it is to style thinning hair like the younger woman I once was.

Roundthemoon · 15/10/2024 18:01

I happened to be doing karaoke with someone a lot younger than me.

He didn't know any of the songs that I knew!

I said " ah backstreet boys. A classic".

He said "it's a little too classic"

:) I'm old

ChristmasInTheDistance · 15/10/2024 23:26

I was thinking about Christmas songs earlier on… and realised that Band Aid “Do they know it’s Christmas” is 40 years old this year!!!😱 Dear God!! Seems like only yesterday….
Some of the lyrics seem a bit ~~ hmmm too. I don’t usually notice stuff like that but I suddenly did with that song.

Healingsfall · 15/10/2024 23:36

Other people saying they're old makes me feel old in some bizarre way. My mum is in her 70s, grew up as a 60s teen, has been into music from every era, so never defined herself as in "my day". Her mantra is you can think yourself old (which is true), and I've sort of followed this. Then I get people my age (39) and younger 🤔 saying they are old or feel old because of xyz. It's even worse when they say "us oldies..." and they're only 35!

FelixtheAardvark · 16/10/2024 00:32

Being around people who've never seen England win the World Cup. ⚽

That my kids are now older than i was when i had them.

And that i can have extended and interesting conversations with folks in their 70s, some of whom seem to look younger than me! (Late 50s)

My sons are now getting a bit bald at the back of their head..how did that happen ?
