We're going to Ikea tomorrow for a few things. Tell me what else I need to buy that I never thought I would need/didn't know existed/will make my life easier etc.

I cannot leave ikea without tea lights, scissors and a hot dog.

clip on lamp

The socktopus helps I 2 ways. It means you can hang out loads of small items using a small bit of line so it is space saving. Also when it starts to rain you can just grab the whole thing and bring it indoors and hang it on an airer which is loads quicker.

If you dry stuff in a bathroom you can hang the socktopus on a shower rail and move it quickly if anyone wants a shower too.

I have plenty of line space, I just find the process of pegging up loads of socks maddening (they're mainly my partner's too, as I rarely wear them). Doesn't sound like the socktopus helps with that.

Meatballs and lingonberry sauce, cushions, candles, the odd plant. A visit to the restaurant.
Some new glasses, batteries, possible a new quilt.
Some pictures.
Door mats definitely.
if you need a large area rug, they often have some lovely ones, reasonable priced.
Throws, possibly a couple of lovely table lamps.
Some coffee, possibly some biscuits, and a cute stuffed toy.
Scented candles and holders.
A new mattress?
A tray
Some Christmas decorations.
chocolate,
oh and ok, one of their hotdogs, with mash and onions, for the youngest, who is somehow hungry, even though they’ve had an adult meatballs and mash and lingonberry and gravy……

Bathroom towels, thin, but very easy to dry, and a few bath mats, inexpensive and easy to wash

A toddler bed, they last for years, and you will notice that your child is suddenly far too big for it, about to join the seniors, and the bed is still going strong.

Sounds like you need to delegate that task to your partner! Buy him the socktopus!

Always a cuddly toy, no matter what your age is, I think it’s a rule of entry.

They do!

Thanks - I think I'll go next week

honeyfox · 12/10/2024 23:27

Photo frames and photo shelves.

Hand towels with the hook.

Sandwich bags and millions of kitchen bits. We love the knives, side plates, lunch boxes, glasses, bag clips etc.

Meat & plant balls, potato rosti and dime cake.

The hot dogs are really good too.

In the children’s department, the 10 pack of face cloths.

They are the perfect washable cloth for kitchen jobs. I barely use kitchen roll or J cloths or anything, just use a cheap facecloth and chuck it in the laundry basket when I’m done. 10 is loads for all the jobs across a week, then I do a wash. They last about 6 years of constant washes and are much more environmentally friendly than most alternatives.

Tealights

Spent 4hrs there today - didn't get the otters I wanted but did get bees! And many, many drona drawers, and another skubb drawer divider set - must be my 4th or 5th one, they are so useful. And a female Christmas gnome to go with the male one I already have. Wish I had bought the Gingerbread dough though. I was wilting by the time I got through the tills.

Christmas wrapping paper. You can never have enough.

BettyBardMacDonald · 12/10/2024 23:37

I love the toy food made of fabric. And I don't even have kids!

Tea lights

Fresh tea towels

SleepPrettyDarling · 12/10/2024 23:38

Knives!!! Fruit knives, steak knives, all knives. Great value.

JumpstartMondays · 12/10/2024 23:43

Uppfylld food preparation bowls - they slide under the edge of your chopping board while you're prepping 👌

The mustard and dill sauce, bloody delicious.

Manchesterbythesea · 12/10/2024 23:47

Sandwich bags. All different sizes. Especially the small ones. So handy!

My daughter in law bought an adjustable thing that you stack your baking sheets and roasting tins sideways next to each other, rather than piled on top of each other, brilliant idea, I'm getting some when I go next week.

That sounds great-what was it called??!

Ariela · 12/10/2024 23:51

Nothing. Most of it if not all of it you do not need at all, stick to what is essential. You will have to walk a mile round the store to get out (unless you can sneak a shortcut).

I really don't understand the socktopus thing—how is it different from pegging up the socks normally?

I'm attracted to the idea because I loathe pegging up socks, but it doesn't seem to save any time from what I can see.

When the rain starts, you grab the entire socktopus in one easy motion and run indoors with it, instead of having to unpeg 16 pairs of socks.
