Live: Ukraine Telegram Highlights

Kherson is a living NIGHTMARE
Western journalist Caolan Robertson visited Kherson and shared his impressions.
Full documentary here:

In Donetsk oblast, Russian forces killed 2 people and injured 10 more
The occupiers launched an FPV drone at a civilian vehicle, killing a 19-year-old driver. A woman was also killed as a result of Russian shelling.
Several people were injured in attacks on Selydove, Siversk, Myrnohrad, and Shevchenko.

Over the past week, Russia has attacked Ukraine with 900 guided aerial bombs, more than 40 missiles, and 400 strike drones

Member of the Verkhovna Rada’s National Security Committee, Fedir Venislavskyi, stated that there are not enough votes in parliament to pass economic exemptions from mobilization and considers the demands for setting clear demobilization timelines for soldiers as a step toward the loss of statehood.
“Currently, I don’t see enough votes in parliament to support such economic exemptions from mobilization. This is yet another dividing line between those who have well-paying jobs and money and those who don’t.”

In Yakutia, a Russian An-3 aircraft crashed due to engine failure
According to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, there were five people on board, one of whom died.

Nobel laureate in literature Han Kang has declined to participate in celebrations due to the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East

I wonder, would anyone or anyone(s) (so's to speak) be willing to do the roundup one day a week? The day doesn't matter.

Providing this info is something dear to my heart, in a minute way it does, I hope, help keep people informed. The strain is building up a little bit though and one day a week rest might help a bit.

I certainly plan to keep going the rest of the week.

I'm sorry I'm not useful for this, but just wanted to say please do whatever's necessary take care of yourself, @DucklingSwimmingInstructress .

https://www.understandingwar.org/backgrounder/russian-offensive-campaign-assessment-october-12-2024

Key Takeaways:

  • Russian forces are reportedly relying on illicitly obtained Starlink terminals to improve combat coordination and the effectiveness of their tactical reconnaissance strike complex (TRSC) in Ukraine as part of an overarching effort to reach technological parity with Ukrainian forces.
  • A Russian milblogger claimed that a Ukrainian F-16 downed a Russian Su-34 fighter aircraft in an unspecified area of the theater on October 12, but ISW cannot verify the claim that a Ukrainian F-16 was involved in the reported loss of the Russian Su-34.
  • Unknown actors opened fire on personnel of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs' (MVD) Center for Combating Extremism in Nazran, Republic of Ingushetia on the night of October 11.
  • Indian enterprises are reportedly increasing exports of dual-use technologies to Russia, in part thanks to large Russian reserves of rupees from oil sales to India.
  • Russian forces recently advanced near Kupyansk, Donetsk City, and Robotyne.
  • Russian forces are reportedly struggling to conduct effective counterbattery fires.

@DucklingSwimmingInstructress please can you pm me your sources. I can't commit to regular bulletins, and yours are incredibly big shoes to step into, but if I gave the sources, I will make a stab at it if you are unable or need a break.

DesdamonasHandkerchief · 13/10/2024 23:34

Hi @DucklingSwimmingInstructress I still have your list of sources and will try to commit to doing the round ups one day a week unless I'm on holiday (in which case I'll say in advance) Which day would you like to give up?

MissConductUS · 13/10/2024 23:39

This is what the burned oil depot in temporarily occupied Feodosia looks like.
Eight storage tanks have been completely destroyed.

Any petroleum storage tank within 50 meters of the burned-out ones will be unusable. Prolonged exposure to the intense heat of the fire will have ruined them structurally.

DucklingSwimmingInstructress · 14/10/2024 10:15

Thank you very much indeed for the offers of help. As @DesdamonasHandkerchief can probably do it regularly perhaps that is the best option.

@DesdamonasHandkerchief which day suits you? Any is fine by me. Weekends tend to be a bit quieter newswise but also that's the day that people are busiest with family stuff of course. So honestly, whichever day suits you :)

DesdamonasHandkerchief · 14/10/2024 11:01

Okay @DucklingSwimmingInstructress, I'll do Mondays if that's okay, starting with next Monday, as I think Blueshoes has already committed to today.
Apologies to thread followers in advance if there is some repetition of Sundays news as I know from past experience working out what's new and what has already been covered can be tricky.
As previously mentioned I may not update if I'm on holiday out of the country but will flag this up in advance.

DucklingSwimmingInstructress · 14/10/2024 12:39

Thank you very much. I can certainly step in now and then on a Monday

blueshoes · 14/10/2024 16:15

Kyiv Ind to follow.

https://www.understandingwar.org/backgrounder/russian-offensive-campaign-assessment-october-13-2024

Key Takeaways:

  • Russian forces have recently resumed tactical offensive attacks in the Donetsk-Zaporizhia Oblast border area and have made tactical gains in localized assaults, but this activity so far does not appear to be a part of a larger operational offensive effort to support the wider Russian offensive operation in western Donetsk Oblast.
  • Russian forces recently executed nine Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs) in Kursk Oblast amid a theater-wide increase in Russian executions of Ukrainian POWs. [Bastard Russians]
  • Russian milbloggers largely glorified the Russian execution of the Ukrainian POWs, reinforcing a cultural norm to justify and celebrate war crimes within the broader Russian ultranationalist community.
  • Ukrainian forces recently regained lost positions near Selydove, and Russian forces recently advanced near Toretsk, Donetsk City, and Velyka Novosilka.
Mb76 · 14/10/2024 19:41

@DucklingSwimmingInstructress 🌻 take care of yourself. What you have been doing since day 1 is hugely appreciated. I’m sorry it’s taken its toll on you 😢
