Is this the most stunning man who ever lived?

I’ve just discovered an actor from the 1940s and 50s called Randolph Scott. He was super famous then - understandably - but seems to be much less well known now. Well suffice it to say my ‘Bobby socks’ are well and truly blown off! What do we all think?

Dean Martin

earlyoclock · 09/10/2024 12:43

Very bland looking.

No one mentioned Montgomery Clift yet?

I know he was gay, but him and his buddy Liz Taylor looked gorgeous together in photos.

ITA - I forgot about him, especially in “Red River”, “The Heiress”, etc. A beautiful man!

Yes, went the Liverpool Comic Con!!

You know who I think is absolutely stunning irl - Ruth Connell. Rowena is one of my favourite characters anyway but she is just beautiful too!

I only found out very recently that Ruth and Rob Benedict (Chuck Shurley) are a couple IRL and had a baby in January!

Just finished a rewatch and have major envy of anyone who has met any of them.

On topic..Misha Collins. Hell yes😍

MrsSkylerWhite · 09/10/2024 12:46

Surely most people over 40 would know who Randolph Scott was?
Unfortunately, OP, he wouldn’t have returned your affections.

coxesorangepippin · 09/10/2024 12:46

Ive just been told about a lumberjack called Thoren Bradley on TikTok

^

😂

TeabySea · 09/10/2024 12:48

If you want to go back a bit more, then James Dean.

My next question is where to find old movies? I Googled Netflix old movies but didn’t really get any hits. Where do you look?

Sesma · 09/10/2024 12:52

Oh yes, Alain Delon, in that vest in The Yellow Rolls Royce

Reelgood.com will tell you if they are shown anywhere, occasionally they appear on BBC, but mostly they are just on DVDs unfortunately.

Of course not.

Paul Newman was.

Definitely.

Mind you, when he was in films with Redford he had some serious competition.

Timothy Olyphant and Scott Eastwood do it for me!

Oh YES. Timothy Olyphant is absolutely beautiful. I might have to watch Catch and Release again.

Uricon2 · 09/10/2024 13:07

@Coruscations There is a reason why Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is my favourite film and it isn't just the sparkling dialogue and wonderful cinematography.

ETA, well, 2 reasons, really.

Yeah, I was surprised when I found that out! It's strangely one of those comfort shows. If there's nothing else of interest at the time, SPN it is! Maybe we're just strange! I'm a bit demon and pagan mythology obsessed anyway so it just made me worse 😂

Agreed Misha is a very beautiful man too! DP says "is the criteria on this show to be attractive, all the men and women are so good looking" and he's correct 😂

Don't see it myself

Not sure, but I'm currently down a Gary Cooper wormhole on YouTube 😁- lots of interesting documentaries.
I'd love to watch Busby Berkley musicals and old black and white films - the kind that used to be on at the weekend daytimes as a kid. Be the perfect bit of escapism to today's world!

A young Oliver Reed was lovely , before being ruined by alcohol

Came here to say young Oliver Reed is my ideal man

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 09/10/2024 13:21

He doesn't do it for me OP, this is more my style

MarkWithaC · 09/10/2024 13:25

I feel like I've read about him in the news just recently, but I can't think in what context.
I thought you were going to say Alain Delon.

Also mildly surprised no one has brought up young Stalin Grin

Arraminta · 09/10/2024 13:25

Elvis and Paul Newman looked like classical Greek statues. Beyond perfect.

But for me it will always, always be Michael Biehn in The Terminator. At the time, the director said it was impossible to take a bad angle of him.

Greyrockin · 09/10/2024 13:45

I saw a young Frank Langella in a film from the 70's recently and was blown away by the charisma he had on screen - and also that he wouldn't have looked much out of place if he fast forwarded 30 years. He's still very handsome and charismatic today 😍

I know. I miss not being able to see the films easily. I watched most of them as a teen in the 80s, Saturday afternoons on BBC2 usually.

Sometimes BBC iPlayer have a season of old films.
