Pregnant after abortion

hi, I had a medical abortion 4 weeks and 1 day ago.. I also started my adhd meds in the last 3 weeks and have been abit away with the fairy’s… me and my boyfriend stupidly had sex using the pull out method after week 2 I can’t remember when exactly but I assumed all would be ok as I was still slightly bleeding! Anyway I’ve done a test and it’s really positive .. anyone had this? Is it left over hormones or failed termination or a new pregnancy I’m so confused and feel so stupid

I’m going through the same im currently 3 weeks and 3 days post termination

your test would actually be considered a lighter positive, that dark line is the control line the lighter line is the test line

have you taken the test they gave you ?

these are my tests which were taken yesterday which are really dark

Wow yours are really dark! These are the same tests I used when I found out I was originally pregnant and it was so much fainter than this… I did but i think I chucked it away to soon, I can’t remember I was struggling with my meds and don’t think I waited long for the result! I’ve been reading tests can stay positive for 6 weeks! But would they really be this dark? How far were you when you had your termination?

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 07/10/2024 17:18

I don’t think there is any way of knowing at the moment. If you’ve been told you can get a positive pregnancy test 6 weeks post abortion then wait for 2 weeks and test again.

but you really do need to make an appointment for proper contraceptive advice, if you are going to have unprotected sex and you don’t want to have a baby.

Sophielamb · 07/10/2024 17:20

i am I actually have a doctors appointment to get the pill, bpas were ment to add it to my abortion pack, still my stupid fault

It’s all so confusing isn’t it

I’ve read so many threads!

they didn’t tell me but I clicked the screen when she left the room and the scan said 6 weeks and 3 days

what about you?

also is there any chance it could be a new pregnancy ? For me there isn’t

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 07/10/2024 17:42

@Sophielamb the pill is just another medication to take and, if you’re already struggling with that, might not be the best option. It’s worth having a chat about the injection / implant etc

Sophielamb · 07/10/2024 17:50

Yes there is a chance for me 😫 I’m so stupid, after reading yours though it’s making me feel like maybe it is still hormones left! I didn’t have a scan I was just sent the kit in the post but I think I was 7 weeks exactly! The thing that made me test was on Friday I had like weird pink spotting and thought my period was coming but it didn’t amount to anything and now I’m worried it was implantation

Sophielamb · 07/10/2024 17:53

I am waiting to be sterilised, I have been on the list for over 1 year now! Unfortunately I can’t have anything with hormones it really messes with me, I just had a copper coil but after about 8 months it caused me problems which apparently is quite common so I had to have it out and was using an app to track my ovulation which wasn’t reliable! My only option right now is the mini pill as it has low hormones just to keep me going till my sterilisation when ever that may be!

Did you take the pills op? Sometimes it doesn't work.

Did you take the pills op? Sometimes it doesn't work.

I did, I took the tablet then 48 hours the other tablet and then a few hours later I put the tablets inside me! I had a fair amount of blood! And bled for about 2.5-3 weeks after! I also had really strong pregnancy symptoms! Which I do not have anymore! I couldn’t even walk without my boobs hurting! I had a feeling it was a multiple pregnancy as I felt very pregnancy very early on yet with my other pregnancy’s (I have 4 children already) I didn’t have many symptoms at all just tiredness! Maybe this is why the hormones are still there? I’m on hold to the clinic now as in the website it says if you test positive after 4 weeks to call them

If you went to Bpas .. did you use the test they gave you or did you buy one from the shop ?

I lost the test 😭😩 I put it somewhere safe and can’t remember where it is! My brain was frazzled for about a week with my new medication and now I’ve stopped taking it I’m trying to recall things! It was a test I already had shop brought

OP posts:
Soditsally · 07/10/2024 18:44

They are not the same OP
Can you ask Bpas to post you another one out or pop into a clinic to pick one up ?
The ones you get with the pack are specifically for after termination
Good luck OP 💐

caringcarer · 07/10/2024 19:31

If you don't use proper contraception you will get pregnant again and again. The pull out method is not a proper contraception as you must know. Get an implant in your arm as if you get the pill you have to take it every day. Forget a day and you can still get pregnant.

I am aware of this and am waiting to be sterilised! Unfortunately I can’t have an implant/injection as I’m sensitive to the hormones in it the mini pill is ny only option until I reach the top of the waiting list to be sterilised

Condoms, OP.

Pulling out is not a 'method'. I wish people wouldn't call it this, as it makes it sound as if it works.

I really don’t need a lecture about contraception, I am aware how stupid I was I’m also aware of what I need to do going forward! As stated I’ve been on medication the last few weeks and have not had the best thinking process going on. I’m now off the medication until they fix my dosage and I’m thinking clearer and i feel like a complete fool that I could potentially be in this situation again so soon after! It was a really hard decision to make and if it’s happened again I won’t be terminating!

Good luck OP, there's a strong chance you're still testing positive from your previous pregnancy.

user1491396110 · 07/10/2024 20:16

I had a miscarriage and still tested positive for nearly 8 weeks

Wow! How far gone were you? Sorry to hear you miscarried! I’m thinking it probably is still my previous hormones now I’ve posted this it’s definitely gave me some reassurance

I hope you feel better for that, @TheLittleOldWomanWhoShrinks.
It was supportive and helpful - not.

I have just got off the phone to bpas and the lady said it’s normal to test positive up to 6 weeks and was not concerned in the slightest! She said shop brought tests are so sensitive they don’t advise using them and told me to wait another 2 weeks for my period as my pregnancy symptoms have gone

Well, it (and other similar posts) might help stop this happening again however many weeks down the line. And the point about the withdrawal 'method' was a wider one. Calling it a method can lead people to think it's reliable.

TheLittleOldWomanWhoShrinks · 07/10/2024 21:18

I do apologise, however (to you, OP, not to whoever chided me), if you felt my post was unsupportive. But your posts did read to me as if you hadn't been seeing condoms as an option up to now, and they would have prevented the doubts you're going through. I'd keep an eye on things IIWY, although you've been reassured for now, and see someone if your period doesn't turn up. I've had a lot of miscarriages and never a positive test that long.
