How much do your holidays cost...

purplespink · 07/10/2024 16:09

And for how many people?

DH and I spent about £2700 this year on four days for our honeymoon (didn't budget as it was our first trip and honeymoon). This included flights, hotels, food and entertainment. I'm wanting to book a holiday for next year for the four of us but we've only ever done Center Parcs. Can I ask how much your holidays cost all in and where for/ how long? Smile

We spent £2k (in total, activities, food) at Centre Parcs in school hols for 4 nights and £4500 for a week away aboard, all inclusive with the kids this year.

Ratfinkstinkypink · 07/10/2024 16:20

Two Center Parcs 3 night breaks, spent about £2k in total. Me and my little one.

Baker90 · 07/10/2024 16:25

About £4.5k for 4 of us all inclusive for 2 weeks. Admittedly in June and one kids free place.

dothehokeycokey · 07/10/2024 16:26

Just booked for next May
£4000 for 4 bed and breakfast so probably another £1000 for other food, drinks, trips and extras

spuddy4 · 07/10/2024 16:28

Depends. This year we paid £3k for a week AI in Greece but we've also been to the canaries for a week SC for under £500 each plus spending money. This is only myself and Dp, kids are adults now so AI doesn't always work out the best value for us but it definitely was when kids were with us.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 07/10/2024 16:40

This year is about 4.5k (including spending money) for a short break in the UK and a trip to India. Next year will be about 11k as we're going to Florida to do all of the theme parks, and as DS is going on a school trip we're squeezing a city break in too.
Our costs vary massively as we like to do quite a wide range of holidays - so one year could be a cheapish eurocamp or cruise, the next year along haul trip.

CeeJay81 · 07/10/2024 16:50

We only have a small budget. So go away in term time, so much cheaper than school hols. This year, it's a week away in December. Half board and its £2,300 for family of 4. Next year our budget is less, so will just do a short break in UK.

MeowCatPleaseMeowBack · 07/10/2024 16:56

When I was young and our household income was low we'd book a last minute package holiday for a fortnight's B&B in a 2* somewhere in Greece for £500 (two adults).

Now income is higher and I value luxury more, we book a fortnight's full-board in a 5* hotel somewhere short or mid-haul. £3,000ish for two adults.

That's why I don't get these threads. It all depends on circumstances.

SophiaSW1 · 07/10/2024 16:58

This year we have done
£3k abroad for 1 week (not school hols)
£2k UK 1 week holiday (school summer holidays)
£1k Center parcs
£1k UK break (long weekend)

Beezknees · 07/10/2024 17:03

General rule of thumb between £2k-£2.5k for 2 of us (me and teen DS) for a week in school holidays AI.

fruitbrewhaha · 07/10/2024 17:08

This year 16 days in Greece was £6.5k in total, Barbados 2 weeks £7k no kids
next year budgeting Sri Lanka £10k and Italy £6.5 ish

Comedycook · 07/10/2024 17:10

We try to aim for no more than £1k per person

Lovelynames123 · 07/10/2024 17:15

I tend to pay £500-1000 pp 4* AI for a week, always in school holidays, there are 2 adults and 3 dc but I'm only paying for myself and 2 dc, we spilt the free child place to make it cheaper for dsis.

But I've recently decided to rein the holidays in and have a saving year, although might go if I see a good last minute deal

WoahThreeAces · 07/10/2024 17:17

We only holiday in the UK as can't afford holidays abroad (though I am always reading about how it's cheaper to go abroad, but I've never ever found a holiday abroad I can afford!)
This year was just under £2k all in for a week on the Kent coast - that includes the accomodation, travel (we went by train) and spending budget, for 5 of us (me, DH, two adults kids, one 16 year old), in August.

HeddaGarbled · 07/10/2024 17:17

This year we went self-catering in the UK: £650 on the cottage, then maybe another £250 ish on spends.

Last year we did half board in Corfu: £1400 for the holiday, took 400 Euros and spent most of it.

Hayley1256 · 07/10/2024 17:19

This year's abroad holiday for October half term to Cyprus was around 3200 for 2 adults and 1 child, 5* all inclusive, 1 week (booked last year). This also includes a room upgrade for a 2 bedroom suite.

Next years holiday was 4500 for 10 nights in August, Greece, 5* all inclusive. This includes a room upgrade to a swim up suite and seperate pool and bar for people with the same room types. Booked this a few months ago and it's already gone up by 800 for the same dates and room so I've learnt the more advance you book the better

Changeforachange · 07/10/2024 17:27

15 days SC in private 3-bed villa with own pool in turkey 4.5k

With transfers, all meals, trips & spends about 6k.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 07/10/2024 17:47

How long is a piece of string. 7k AI in Ibiza this summer, 14 nights, two teens so two rooms. Next year will be more as going to US for family reasons.

Lilly11a · 07/10/2024 17:53

Ooo like these threads
£800 Budapest 3 nights at Easter for 2 of us
£1200 total week in 4 bed Norfolk cottage July that 8 of us and a dog all stayed in at different times
£1050 bargain ai morroco in Sept for 2 of us
£5600 flights to new Zealand for 3 weeks over Christmas for 3 of us to visit my brother. Goodness knows what else we will spend but staying with him most of the time .

Tarantella6 · 07/10/2024 17:55

We go camping in France in the summer. We could do 2 weeks for £1.5k but we don't take our own tent any more and get safari tents so it's more like £3.5k for two weeks.

We did a week in California last Feb for about £4k all in. Florida next April is going to be a lot more 😬

Saucisses · 07/10/2024 17:58

It all depends what you can afford, doesn't it? There's a huge spectrum of holiday budgets.

Ten years ago, with preschoolers, our holidays were a week in a holiday cottage in Northumbria or Norfolk, a weekend at Center Parcs and another week visiting family in France. Probably £3000 all in (and even then it was a struggle.) Happy times!

This year we are taking our teens skiing, seeing classical sites in Greece, on safari and on various breaks to Italy, Iceland, France and Serbia and won't get much change from £40k.

I absolutely love travelling with my family.

Mirrorxxx · 07/10/2024 18:04

This year we have spent

1000 weekend London
2000 week in cotswolds
2000 week in Anglesey
3000 5 nights in morocco

next year we will be spending a lot of a significant holiday

CharlotteStreetW1 · 07/10/2024 18:12

Two adults

Last year - 5* Croatia - B&B - £5k
This year - 5* Tanzania (FB) & Zanzibar (HB) = £10k
Special birthdays and anniversary so more extravagant than usual

Next year - Greek Island flights and a highly recommended 3* hotel (B&B) booked independently = £1700

mindutopia · 07/10/2024 18:20

I’d say maybe £1000 for a week. I think people who spend loads of money on holidays are bonkers. We have really nice holidays - big detached self-catering holiday let in Wales or Cornwall, a bit of eating out but also lots of meals at home, picnics, cheap and cheerful days out or city breaks abroad. DS and I went to Spain for 5 days this summer, big beautiful flat, right by the beach, eating out, lots of days out to museums, all in including flights, I’d say we spent maybe £800-900.

cakeorwine · 07/10/2024 18:29

Normally we camp in Europe but this time we had a Eurocamp bungalow (on a deal)

Ferry: £200 return
Camping: 4 nights at £40 per night £160
Eurocamp: 8 nights: £750

Plus some booking.com accommodation on the way down / up - so about £160

We self cater which helps.
Then there's fuel and toll charges.

This was during school holiday period
