How much do your holidays cost...

purplespink · 07/10/2024 16:09

And for how many people?

DH and I spent about £2700 this year on four days for our honeymoon (didn't budget as it was our first trip and honeymoon). This included flights, hotels, food and entertainment. I'm wanting to book a holiday for next year for the four of us but we've only ever done Center Parcs. Can I ask how much your holidays cost all in and where for/ how long? Smile

Anywhere between 2-14k. Depends where we go.

DiliGaff · 07/10/2024 18:53

Family of 5, normally we pay in the region of up to £7k all in for two weeks in the far east, either Thailand, Borneo or Bali. I always book ocean front villas, with private pool and a chef. I always books flights, accommodation etc separately, so can find great deals.

CruisingDuck · 07/10/2024 18:56

Around £3k-£4k twice a year.

JasonTindallsTan · 07/10/2024 19:02

This year we’ve done:

x1 week SC Portugal (2 adults + teen) holiday plus spends approx 2k
x1 week Spain visiting family so just flights and spends for 3 x adults and x1 teen 1.5k
5 nights NYC 3 adults holiday plus spends 5k
x1 week AI Turkey 2 adults + 1 teen 3k

Next year we’ve got 11 nights AI Mexico booked for 3 adults plus teen for 7.1k
Spain to see family so approx 1.5k again.

Holidays are pretty much the reason I go to work so I know we spend a lot on them but I really prioritise feeling the sun on my face.

Teq · 07/10/2024 19:05

It varies massively.

Last year was maybe £4k

This year will be upwards of £20k 😬

Misseditagain · 07/10/2024 19:23

From a few hundred to £££££s.
Its just me so i dont care.

addictedtotheflats · 07/10/2024 19:30

We did Tenerife for 8 nights in may for £1980 and we are going to Crete for 7 nights next week for £1890 both all inclusive, 2 adults, 1 child, 1 infant.

Muledwine · 07/10/2024 19:31

£3,500 for 5 in August to South of France. This included everything accommodation, flights, car hire, food and days out etc.

Skiing booked for this Jan £1,600.00 for 5 people. We will have to add ski passes and food onto this.

MargaretBetts · 07/10/2024 19:33

I’ve only done luxury hotels in the uk this year. £3-4K for three night short breaks for two x four. It’s what my menopausal self needs as I cba to travel abroad atm.

Yerroblemom1923 · 07/10/2024 19:34

£3000 for me, my husband and daughter in Spain. 5* hotel. 5 days.

Spongebobcircletop · 07/10/2024 19:35

I love these threads to get ideas. Ours (2 adults 2 children) varies, I'll gladly go cheap and cheerful to get away! In the last 14 months we did a city break combined with sport even for about 7k, self catering winter sun in lanzarote about 2k incl spends, 4 days in London for 1500, 1 night in a city for 500, a week in eurocamp in Italy for 1500. Our next trip is lanzarote winter sun again half board for 3500. Dh is 40 next year so hope to go to Asia.

mitogoshigg · 07/10/2024 19:43

Been on a couple of city breaks abroad, each worked out around £1000 for 2

Trip to Shetland, ferry with cabin £270 but free accommodation with family. Petrol from south is £120 return. No idea what we spent as wasn't tracking.

About to go long haul which was £1650 each b&b including flights for 12 days. Food can be cheap where we are going but remains to be seen whether we are good or extravagant

user7654263 · 07/10/2024 19:44

This year DH took the DC (2 x teens) skiing (I stayed home) - about £5k
1 week diving in egypt 5 star - £5k for 4
1 week in crete all inclusive 5 star £6.5k for 4

Tristar15 · 07/10/2024 19:48

5K for me and my DD:
1 week in the canaries
1 week at Centre Parcs
3 nights at a theme park
1 week in the Lakes

Will spend similar next year. I budget about 5K a year for holidays. Can’t justify spending more.

ShiftySquirrel · 07/10/2024 19:51

Italy half board £3.5K two adults two teens. Probably spent an extra £1k on other stuff. Big birthday.

£700 Wales, four adults plus two teens. Plus money for food sightseeing etc.

Camping in Norfolk for three weeks, but that's for a hobby.

This year is an outlier, next year I expect it will be Norfolk camping, plus a cottage if we're lucky.

Crikeyalmighty · 07/10/2024 19:57

We have done ( 2 adults)

4 nights in Amsterdam- March B&B £1200 4 star hotel and flights plus about£500 meals and drinks

5 days in Majorca early June - £1100 flights and 4 star hotel B&b plus about£700 meals and drinks and car hire

10 days Greek island mid July £3500 flights , 4 star airbnb place , ferry and spends

Going to Vienna new year - 5 days - around £3000 in total but paying for my adult son too

tarheelbaby · 07/10/2024 19:58

It is all very dependent on so many factors. We did 3 weeks in August in the US for me and 2DDs. We stayed with family and friends, so no accomodation costs, but hired a car for the duration and contributed to groceries/restaurants plus went to attractions and shopped: grand total = £5,167 including flights. I was not really trying to scrimp.

Other years, with DH, we have gone for a fortnight to France on the ferry and self-catering including a fancy restaurant each week and luxury groceries for less than half that.

I think flights, if not included, and hire cars are the biggest expenses.

LBOCS2 · 07/10/2024 19:58

There are 5 of us - 3 counted as adults, 2 children.

This year we did (during school holidays):
A week in Lanzarote in April - all inclusive, about £8.5k
A week in a house just outside the Cotswolds - £2.7k plus food and drink (probably another £1,000 realistically)
And we've just booked 5 days AI in Menorca over October half term, at £3k.

We've also had a couple of long weekends away, at about a grand, give or take, per weekend once everything is added up. And I'm going away with friends in November for a week, and that's costing £750.

Having to go during the school holidays has a huge impact on the cost of holidays unfortunately 😫

Chicooo · 07/10/2024 19:59

This year.

£1k Center Parcs weekend.
£20k Orlando fortnight
£2k European city break weekend.

Next year is shaping up to be similar.

We tend to always do the same CP weekend. Then a big holiday and then a smaller weekend break.

Or we'll do 2 1 week holidays instead of the big fortnight. Generally that's quite a bit cheaper as won't be long haul.

Since Covid though (and for the next 2 years at least) it's following the above plan. Japan - Canada - Hawaii are the plans going forward.

Boofoof · 07/10/2024 20:00

I budget £4.5k-6k for 2 adults each year, 5 star hotel. Varies how long we go away for depending on what we can get for our money in different destinations.
Saving up to budget £7.5-10k for a big trip in a few years time.

Jammedchakra · 07/10/2024 20:01

Why do you want to know? We spend ridiculous sums (more than many people earn), but can afford to. It’s one income after pension and tax. Does it matter? It only matters if you can’t afford what you spend and you haven’t got other money to fall back on. If you have savings and you want to spend it, go ahead.

MadMadamMim123 · 07/10/2024 20:03

Italy Eurocamp May Half term - £1600 for accommodation and flights (2 adults 2 children) plus about £1000 spending money

Camping in Swanage August bank holiday for one week - £350 for seven nights plus food and fuel so probably about £700 (2 adults 2 children)

Next year - Croatia Eurocamp May half term - £3000 for three adults and two children (but had a voucher for the flights so only paid £1700)

Cynic17 · 07/10/2024 20:03

Depends on the holiday & what we do/where we go. But £3000 to £4000 for a week's B&B in a 4 star hotel in Europe. 2 adults. Plus food, taxis, museums etc etc.
I mean, how long is a piece of string?

MaybeItsBecauseImALodoner · 07/10/2024 20:12

We went to Tenerife last year, May half term, two adults one child and we paid..
£300 for apartment in a 4 star hotel (owned by someone I know who does mates rates)
£700 for return flights from Gatwick.
Around 900 euros.
The year before that me and my husband did a last minute holiday TUI to Greece, 4 star, all inclusive, kefalonia.. £450 pp but this wasn't in the school holidays.
A girl I work with takes her son away every summer holiday through On the Beach, she pays around £700pp All Inclusive.

unsync · 07/10/2024 20:21

€4,800 for accommodation and £900 for flights for two weeks for two people, Greek islands, June. We allow €100 per person per day for food spends, but eat out every night.
