How much do your holidays cost...

purplespink · 07/10/2024 16:09

And for how many people?

DH and I spent about £2700 this year on four days for our honeymoon (didn't budget as it was our first trip and honeymoon). This included flights, hotels, food and entertainment. I'm wanting to book a holiday for next year for the four of us but we've only ever done Center Parcs. Can I ask how much your holidays cost all in and where for/ how long? Smile

Depends on the year really, most we've spent is £12000 for a family of 4 for Florida. Average is probably around £4-5k for AI in Europe, DH and I are doing a trip without the kids next year, US road trip for a week for £5000, and taking the kids on a cruise that's probably about £5000 as well.

TheCatCameBack112 · 07/10/2024 20:22

Around 8k (costs were very widespread so haven't totted it all up) me and DH on a US road trip, two weeks with flights, accommodation, car hire and spends.

Then around 2k on 5 nts in Marrakech staying in a Riad, for 3 adults with spends

When the kids were small it was a ferry to France or a euro camp in Italy with cheap flights. Tbh, the self catering, two or three bed caravan suited us, and hotels in Spain or Greece we were all stir crazy in one room or in a small apartment.

Agree AI worked well for older kids, we did Disney with dining plan one year and have taken a few cruises where the teens had good use of the refill drinks and free ice cream (plus 3 o'clock pizza)

lightsandtunnels · 07/10/2024 20:24

DH and I usually go in a villa or apartment and eat out every day. We spend £1.2k a week. Villa and flights usually cost us around £1700 for ten days/2 weeks. Usually total around £3k for ten days/2 weeks for a holiday in Europe; Canary Islands, Cyprus, Corfu etc. We always go out of school holidays too.

hby9628 · 07/10/2024 20:27

This year we've done
Uk long weekend approx £1.5k
Uk full week approx £2.5k
9 nights Greece approx £5k

We also have 2 trips to London coming up which will be another £2.5k i expect

Next year will be a bit more as we've had some inheritance and are doing a long haul & short haul.
I expect the year after we will cut back.

This is a family of 4. Kids are tweens. I appreciate we are lucky to be able to do this.

TortillasAndSalsa · 07/10/2024 20:34

1200 for ds and I to go to Disneyland Paris for 4 days staying at Disneyland hotel next month.
Honeymoon in turkey at 5* AI next year 3k

stanleypops66 · 07/10/2024 20:37

This year we've done
1 week skiing (4.5k)
1 week canaries SC (2.5k)
1 week turkey AI (3.5k)
2 uk city breaks (1.5k)

Have 4 nights Ibiza coming up (just me with friends) so 1k
Centre parcs at Xmas (1k)

We enjoy our holidays and it's something we prioritise.

We're a family of 3.

ShottaSheriff · 07/10/2024 21:15

What we spent this year (accommodation and transport only)

  • £2.5k Canary Islands self catering for a week
  • £1k Holland/France self catering and driving/le shuttle 8 nights - bargain!
  • £2k for 5 nights self catering in Porto
  • £1k camping/music festival
  • couple of free uk holidays at a seaside resort with MIL

We tend to stretch what we spend to get a lot of holidays in. Although this is the first time I’ve actually added up that we spent £6.5k on holidays this year. Could have done a very luxurious two week break with that money! We do self cater so it’s not mega expensive when we’re there but we don’t skimp on treats and experiences so there’s probably a few £k more to add to account for spending money.

Mrscharlieeeee · 07/10/2024 21:32

We went to Rhodes this year, 7 days AI in a 4 star in July and it was £2.5k, booked last minute for 2ad and 2ch.

We've just booked Orlando for next October for 2 weeks and for flights, hotel and theme park tickets for Disney and universal it's costing £8.5k.

BulldogMumma · 07/10/2024 21:40

I've booked Majorca for April half term £3,240 for 4 adults and a child all inclusive

RomeoRivers · 07/10/2024 21:51

10 nights AI Barbados Sandals, swim up room, 2 adults: 9.5k

11 nights AI Tenerife, 2 bed villa with private pool, 2 adults + 2 toddlers: 4.5k

10 nights AI Greece Ikos, 2 bed beachfront villa, 2 adults + 2 toddlers: 15.5k

7 nights AI Ibiza, 2 adults + 2 toddlers: 4.5k

This year: 10 nights AI Maldives, Beachfront suite with private pool, 2 adults + 3 kids: 13k

NickMarlow · 07/10/2024 22:01

We spent more this year than we've been able to in the last few years.

£360 for 4 nights in a caravan on the south coast
£90 for 3 nights camping in Wales
And 6 trips to stay with (uk) family for a few days, where we pay the travel costs, and they host us and pay for the extra food.

crackofdoom · 07/10/2024 22:07

About £1550 for 2.5 weeks driving through France and Northern Spain, staying mostly in campsites, but with 1 night in an AirBnB in France and 3 nights in a budget hotel in Bilbao. Of this, £900 was the ferries from Plymouth- Roscoff and Santander- Plymouth, including cabins. That's not including fuel which was about £250- 300, or food - which I never include, because we'd still have to eat if we stayed at home, and we mostly self cater when we're away. That's for me and 2 DC.

Going away with the new boyfriend who is considerably better off than me in a few weeks- we're taking the train (including the Night Riviera) down to the S.of France, using 1st class Interrail passes and staying in decent hotels. Travel and accommodation will be about £1300 for 5 nights, which seems shockingly extravagant to me, and he feels is quite a bargain 🤔

It doesn't matter what people spend on their holidays, but you do get people on here thinking they have to spend thousands or they can't go anywhere, and that's a bit sad.

DanceMumTaxi · 07/10/2024 22:11

Last year our main holiday was around 6K. 10 nights all inclusive in Turkey. But we did have a few UK breaks as well.

UhOhSpagettiOh · 07/10/2024 22:13

£800 for a week at an air BnB with a hot tub. For me and my two kids.

Allthegoodnamesaregonegone · 07/10/2024 22:15

2 adults 2 kids

Last year: Disneyland Paris £800 (self drive + accommodation and park tickets hotel Cheyenne)
2.6k- 1 weeks 5* AI private transfer
£800 - centre parcs EU de haan (inc transport)

this year
£6k 2 weeks Florida at wdw
london city break £350
butlins £150

next year : not booked
but we’ll either go back to wdw or take a Disney cruise in the summer (I’d budget 5k for Disney (another £1k for spending money) or 3.5k for the cruise.- that will be the summer hols.
might go away in feb half term and then something October?

JasonTindallsTan · 07/10/2024 22:16

When our kids were younger we used to do south of France caravan holidays and tbh we’ve been to some lovely hotels and fab places since then but I’d go back to the south of France in a caravan any day of the week so I deffo agree with the point that you don’t need to spend a fortune on holidays to have a great time.

Flippingflamingo · 07/10/2024 22:17

£408 for a 3 bed cottage in Cornwall for a week. Plus food and drink when there.

FlippityFloppityFlump · 07/10/2024 22:21

This year was £2k for a fabulous AI in May half term (the second week as we get two in our area) for 2 adults and 19 year old. This was only booked few days before and think we just hit v lucky with price as generally it costs a lot more.

£750 for a week in Spain near Barcelona for flights and 2 bed apt for the 3 of us. Spent a lot while there though. Overall it cost £2.25k

I

FoodieToo · 07/10/2024 22:32

We spend a lot !! We have 5 'kids' who are all teens /young adults . Not everyone comes on each trip but they all came on the theme park , skiing and summer breaks .
Skiing in Austria was 12k
AI in Turkey in the summer another 12k
5 days for me in Ikos with pals 1k
Weekend af Crufts ( we live in Dublin ) 1k
Theme park weekend ( Thorpe ) 3k
Summer break in St. Andrew's for golf 1k
2 long weekends in London for musicals 3k
Weekend in Edinburgh for a musical 1k
Goodness , it's no wonder I am broke!!!!! We don't have a mortgage , don't eat out too much, don't spend much on clothes and prioritise travelling and having fun .

OffTheWalll · 07/10/2024 22:39

Jellybeanbag · 08/10/2024 10:09

Imagine if you didn't waste all that on holidays and put your child through private school.

Sorry, forgot its your choice. 😀

purplespink · 08/10/2024 10:43

@Jellybeanbag that's not really in the spirit of this thread and how do you know that some posters don't?

Exactly. I suspect that a significant number of those spending £15k+ a year on holidays probably also use private schools.

Gosh I feel like the poor relation reading this thread- tbf our income is reduced this year as DH was made redundant & still looking for a permanent job. We have spent:

  • weekend with my parents plus Eurocamping incorporating France, Germany, Holland & Belgium - £1300 + £700 spending money
  • October half term Eurocamp in France £260 + £700 spending money (theme park is £200)
  • Weekend in Peak district, staying with friends & family - £45 theme park tickets
  • Weekend UK break for DH & me £200
  • School trips for DS1 £500 + £500 + £300 + 250 spending money

Thank heavens for Eurocamp!
