How much do your holidays cost...

And for how many people?

DH and I spent about £2700 this year on four days for our honeymoon (didn't budget as it was our first trip and honeymoon). This included flights, hotels, food and entertainment. I'm wanting to book a holiday for next year for the four of us but we've only ever done Center Parcs. Can I ask how much your holidays cost all in and where for/ how long? Smile

Gosh I feel like the poor relation reading this thread- tbf our income is reduced this year as DH was made redundant & still looking for a permanent job. We have spent:

  • weekend with my parents plus Eurocamping incorporating France, Germany, Holland & Belgium - £1300 + £700 spending money
  • October half term Eurocamp in France £260 + £700 spending money (theme park is £200)
  • Weekend in Peak district, staying with friends & family - £45 theme park tickets
  • Weekend UK break for DH & me £200
  • School trips for DS1 £500 + £500 + £300 + 250 spending money

Thank heavens for Eurocamp!

I don't think thrift and making your money stretch a long way are ever bad things. Plus, it looks like you've done your bit for the planet by not flying.

Oh God, I forgot DS2's school trip in May- price as yet unspecified, but I know it's going to be an unfeasibly huge amount. Seems that schools aren't quite as good at making a little money go a long way eh 🙄

This year we have done/ will do (2 adults, 1 primary age child)
feb: weekend in Bath/ Cheddar Gorge £500
may: 5 nights in NYC, £5k
july: camp Bestival £2k
august: 2 weeks in France - camping, Eurotunnel, a couple of nights in hotels £3k
august: weekend in Cambridge £500
september: weekend in Suffolk, staying in friend’s beach house £200
october: weekend in Peak District £500
november: weekend in Newcastle (just me with friends) £500

I like to do lots of cheaper breaks rather than one luxury one. NYC was for a big birthday.

Wondering what to do next year so this is good inspiration.

Two Center Parcs 3 night breaks, spent about £2k in total. Me and my little one.

Edited

Fuuuuuuuck!!
I can do a week in the South of France, airbnb, food for flat, meals out, travel (including flights) for about £800 (per person)

We are a family of 4, two adults and two primary aged DDs.

This year is was £4k (including food, drink and spending money) on a 7 night cruise in the summer holidays.

Plus £1.5k or maybe a little less on a 5 night break in a caravan in the Isle of Wight at Easter. The caravan was about £900 so the rest was food, spending money, ferry crossing etc.

Good for you. Travelling with a small person who is disabled with complex medical needs means that is out of the question for us. Center Parcs may seem an expensive choice to you but it is one of the few places we go and he is fully catered for and accepted. They order in a bed that he needs and provide hoists etc all at no extra cost to us, our lodge costs the same as a regular lodge without adaptations. They even hire out bikes with a wheelchair attached so he can experience things that his non-disabled peers get to experience at the same rate it would cost me to hire a run of the mill bike so it is worth every penny to me.

Oh my goodness. Well, that does make holidaying a challenge at any cost, and the fact the centre parcs does this is quite amazing.
I will shut up because I need to count my blessings rather than pennies

Imagine if you didn't waste all that on holidays and put your child through private school.

Sorry, forgot its your choice. 😀

Child is in private school.

We'd never spend on holidays before bills/important things.

Went a very long time being much more frugal, but have gotten to a point in our lives/careers where we are able to afford a lot more than in the past.

DH and I hardly spend anything on ourselves and we don't have flash cars or clothes etc.

But spending on travel/life experiences/family time is something we're happy to splash some cash on.

So far this year I have done a few holidays at varying budgets. Morocco All Inc for a week in January £300 each went with a mate
Thailand in March (2 adults) flights £1.4k then £2k for spends and hotel
USA for 2 weeks in school holidays (2 of us) stayed with friends so £1.2k flights and £700 spending money
Morocco different area (2 adults) 5 nights All Inc £220 each in October

So in total £6.5k but lots of budgets. I like to have a holiday booked at all times but some of our best ones have been the cheapest.

I use Holiday Pirates app to find cheap deals

I don’t see holidays as a waste. I consider them an absolute necessity to get me out of bed in the morning and motivate me going to work. Travelling, seeing different parts of the world and throwing yourself and your children into new experiences can, in my opinion be just as valuable, if not more so, than going to private school 🙄 which contrary to some opinion really is not the be all and end all.

Bugger that. My DS went to state school and came out this year with 8s and 9s. I couldn't afford private school anyway but even if I could I'd rather see the world and private school would have truly been the waste!

We actively chose to spend 2 lots of school fees on holidays. Yep crappy old state school, hello holidays!

shocking eh?!

Comedycook · 09/10/2024 16:22

I'd totally choose holidays over private school...meh, life is for living and private school is no guarantee of success.

You can't put one child through private on 6k a year, let alone two you silly goose! 😄

Oooh what are you like!
