Sophistry. It means, what can't be true exactly? Not, did this obscure person exist, but did/would JKR, somehow in the knowledge of this, choose it as a pseudonym. Does that sound plausible to you, or not?

This. It isn't true, because there is no evidence for it apart from a weird bloke's theory.

AmadeustheAlpaca · 07/10/2024 23:36

@TwistedWonder Thanks for reminding me of Noel's quote, it's even better than I remember. He's spot on and he writes some good tunes too.

Michael Sheen. Saying that he finds it very hard to accept people who are not Welsh playing Welsh characters. A Welsh actor who has made his name playing English people, Tony Blair, Prince Andrew, Kenneth Williams, Brian Clough and David Frost to name a few. Hypocrite.

Edited

The two faced Sheen creep should hang his head in shame...

Don't tell me you wished for more of the Tories and their lying, self serving, divisive shenanigans?

Nah but now we have Labour and "their lying, self serving, divisive shenanigans".

We were always between the devil and the deep blue sea. All the same sow's litter.

@Runnerinthenight
What Starmer has done is nothing compared with the Tories.
Has he made a known sexual harasser Deputy Chief Whip, made Ress-Mogg lie to the Queen to prorogue Parliament, tried to use donations to refurbish his Downing St flat or change the rules to get Owen Paterson off the hook?
No, he accepted a number of donations (within the rules and declared) and I would rather he hadn't. No comparisons.

Yet.

People I do have respect for in no particular order m:

  1. Anthony Hopkins - he literally killed and ate people and washed it down with wine
  2. Ralph Fiennes - he literally shot and killed people for fun
  3. Alan Rickman - When he was a teacher he had favourites and was really nasty to some kids who were not in his house. He also killed the headmaster of his school.

I really have respect for Noel Edmunds who gave away millions to thick people for just opening boxes. The guy from the chase who gave away millions to people for just answering a few questions. We really need people like that in the world.

I need to get to work now.

Noel Edmonds and his cosmic ordering???😂

WTF would you have respect for someone who "literally shot and killed people for fun"?? Or someone who "killed the headmaster of his school"?? Or someone who "literally killed and ate people and washed it down with wine"???

I have no idea about the veracity of any of those claims but surely it's warped and sick to respect people you consider to be murderers?!!

Johnny depp. I can't believe I fell for the sham show that was the 'trial' at the time. It was a smear campaign, he didnt care about the outcome. He and his lawyers were just after sound bites to flood social media with, and so many of us fell for it. Afterwards, I read up on the original trial, and the evidence used to gain him the title 'wife beater', and it was damming. So much evidence was omitted in the US trial, which some of his die hard fans clubbed together to pay for access to, which once they realised it was pages and pages of evidence of evidence against depp they swiftly pretended it never existed. It was all pr, laughing and clipping the term 'mega pint' as if a reason to not take Amber's lawyers seriously, when in fact it was a direct quote from Johnny in his uk trial, insinuating that amber shit the bed, when there were text logs back and forth where they acknowledge their dog shitting in the bed was a common problem. Everything contrived, done to humiliate and deflect. Amber wasn't a perfect victim, therefore she is guilty, where as Johnny doesn't need to be perfect, people will accept a vile, aggressive, drunk abuser of a man over an imperfect victim.

They were both as bad as each other!

It is telling that these people are actors. They take on characters and people ascribe the the actions of the character to the actor. The actor can be totally different in real life

Hard to argue with Noel in this one - "It’s getting a bit woke now, that place, and a bit kind of preachy and a bit virtue-signalling. I don’t like it in music — little fing idiots waving flags around and making political statements and bands taking the stage and saying, ‘Hey guys, isn’t war terrible, yeah? Let’s all boo war. Fk the Tories man,’ and all that.
“It’s like, look — play your f*ing tunes and get off.”

yeah all these people write anti war songs shouldn’t bother. All the folk songs and the songs of the working people to protest against inequity and in support of working people should be erased from history. The song and poems that were anti war or describing the massacres of yore (cannons to the left of us, etc) should all be put in a skip. We just need people to come out and sing, “en maybee ya gonna be def win too say me cos yore may wunder whoal”

He didn't tell women he was talking about kemi badenoch

Kemi Badenoch is a woman. (I realise this may be confusing for some people who appear to think black women are women in the same way that trans women are women.)

TWETMIRF · 08/10/2024 09:16

Wilhelm Burgdorf was a high ranking Nazi. Monroe Burgdorf chose the surname Burgdorf when he decided to become a teanswoman and therefore he must be a Nazi.

I mean, if it's the case for JK Rowling's pen name then it must be even more true for Monroe?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/10/2024 09:24

Yes I expect that's what happened, @TWETMIRF - if someone on the internet reckons it, that's all the evidence I need!

I tend to apply Occam's razor principle in situations like this.

What is more likely?

JK Rowling, who has never given any indication that she supports gay conversion therapy (and has in fact publicly expressed the opposite sentiment) deliberately chose her nom de plume in honour of a gay conversion therapist?

Or, JK Rowling, who has always had great fun naming her characters, liked the name Robert Galbraith and doesn't spend her time Googling to see whether any name she chooses might possibly be problematic? (Particularly bearing in mind that when she chose the name Robert Galbraith she wasn't yet the subject of a witch hunt and hoped to achieve literary success using an anonymous alter ego rather than selling more books using her own already very famous name.)

He's been openly abusive, if you want to call it that, of KEMI BADENOCH, not of all women. And Badenoch is a pretty evil human being, and it's not because she's a woman; it's because she's a horrible hard-right-winger.. Robert Jenrick is just as bad, and Nigel Farage is worse, and they're not women!

I'm not a particular fan of DT and never was; but I don't like the implication that Kemi Badenoch is representative of women. And, apart from this very specific issue of single-sex spaces, she is no particular friend to women's safeguarding:

www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/tory-mp-kemi-badenoch-says-young-people-have-puritanical-view-of-sexual-harassment_uk

let alone women's rights in the broader sense (maternity pay, anyone?)

Edited

It's not OK to openly abuse a woman just because she's only one woman, or because you disagree with her political views.

Kemi Badenoch deserves to be treated with a minimum of respect, just like everyone else.

If you're comfortable with someone being abusive to Kemi Badenoch because you personally disagree with her politics, are you also comfortable with someone being abusive to JK Rowling and Rosie Duffield because of their views on women's rights? (JK Rowling has received "enough death threats to wallpaper her house with" and Rosie Duffield was advised not to attend the Labour party conference due to concerns about her personal safety.) Was it OK for Brexit supporters to threaten Anna Soubry to the point where it was no longer safe for her to return to her house? If no, what's the difference between the former and the latter?

And what's the common factor here? Can we think of any male politicians, authors or public figures who have had to deal with abuse and threats to their personal safety because of their political opinions? How many death threats has Richard Dawkins received for having the same opinion as JK Rowling?

If you can't see the problem here then you are part of the problem.

And for what it's worth, Kemi Badenoch has greater legitimacy to speak on behalf of women than most other people, because she is both a woman and a democratically elected MP.

Who the fuck is David Tennant? An actor with an over inflated sense of his own self importance, and allegedly the father of a "trans child".

There's an excellent clip of Helen Joyce being interviewed, where she says that the "trans child" is a phenomenon that is responsible for the ideological capture of a huge number of our institutions. It only takes one person, somewhere high up, who has or is rumoured to have a "trans child" and the entire organisation is frozen in the headlights, unable to do or say anything that might upset this VIP with a "trans child". And the parents of "trans children" will defend this ideology to the death, even when it has become clear to everyone else that it is indefensible, because the alternative would be to admit that they have harmed their own child.
