There are currently quite a few I have lost respect for, who are yours and why??

OP posts:

Moonshiny · 07/10/2024 00:35

No, I meant pronouns but thanks for checking x

Ok then, you're incorrect.

'Joanne', 'JK' and 'Robert' are all nouns, not pronouns. You need an English lesson.

In no particular order:
Ant and Dec - northern
amanda Holden - fake
Katie Hopkins - Poor root dying and resting bitch face
Peter Purvis - procrastination
David Tennant - stared out of the TV when he was on Dr Who straight at my breasts
Katie Price - For making horse riding uncool
Vic Reeves - For never really having any proper jokes that you could laugh at

Have you moved on "Spot the odd one out" now, @MadeleineMummy ? 😁

Gowlett · 07/10/2024 00:45

PS300, haven’t really kept up with Morrissey in recent times, sounds terrible! I knew he was going that way… Johnny Marr had to make a statement that something M had said was infact a lie, and also that he did not want The Smiths back touring.

I've read many, but not all, of the posts on this thread, so forgive me if this person has already been mentioned.
I voted Labour in the last GE - it was mainly a case of "anyone but the Tories" but I did see Keir Starmer as basically a really decent man.
He identifies himself as coming from a working-class background, and was obviously very intelligent and got to be DPP on merit, (I hope!). I did respect him.
But now I just can't get past the freebies he's accepted.
I can persuade myself to understand him accepting a seat in the Arsenal FC directors' box for his security.
But clothes and glasses?
I buy my own - why can't he, on the money he earns and wealth he has?
I have totally lost all respect for him now, and have found myself seriously wishing I'd not voted Labour.

Don't tell me you wished for more of the Tories and their lying, self serving, divisive shenanigans?

Runnerinthenight · 07/10/2024 00:43

We are absolutely not on the same page! The misogny is all yours!!

In what world is using your initials and not your full name an "illusion of being a male author"? It means you don't know the sex of the author, at least initially, and what is wrong with that? I don't see why the fuck it matters. She made her decisions re authorship names on whatever basis, and it's utterly her right to do that.

JB Gill is a contestant on Strictly. Is that also an "illusion"??? Catch yourself on!

Awww, and here I was thinking we were getting on!

Oh eck is this another memo I've missed?!
Once you're "grown up"you have to ditch revealing clothing?!
Quick, where's me high neck blouse /twin set and pearls?! 😂🙄😁

Well you're clearly not a feminist are you?

Using your bodily assets to attract attention is pretty basic. There are other ways to shine, such as talent, ability, intelligence, competence - not whether you have your tits hanging out or you're wearing no knickers!

Harry has been forced to say those things by his wife.

Harry is a 40 year old man with his own agency. No excuse.

Unfortunately it has to be Rick Stein who I have always loved. Pushing his boring, untalented son forward to copy his mannerisms and unashamedly train him up right in front of us in the screen. Jack would be nowhere without his dad.
Actually, can’t stand most of the blatant nepo babes.

we saw him in padstow once. it was in a pub, and he was basically flashing a huge wad of cash at the bar. lost any respect I had for him in that moment, he was being so tacky

Probably for the best. Yeah, he stirred up his fans / mob to attack Johnny on X and Facebook and whatever on the basis of totally false claims, which turned to radio silence as soon as Johnny responded. Didn't even have it in him to apologise.

Have to agree with DT, I always thought he seemed like he would be thoughtful even where there was disagreement, but wow, I guess not.

I suppose I could say Oprah. I always thought she was a bit silly, but I also thought she was genuine, particularly with her activism around sexual abuse. I now think she is completely mercenary.

Meryl Streep - I have been disillusioned there for a long time but her support of RP is sick. Again, she seems like a smart person but then, you see she isn't.

John Stewart turned out to be a lot stupider than I used to think.

It's not always logical though. I like Mel Gibson a lot more than I used to. At one time he seemed kind of insufferable, now I see him as a guy with some problems just trying to get through life without totally fucking up everything.

Maybe it is about masks - there is something very unappealing about a person who seems to mistake their own public image for the reality.

Yeah, you sound really feminist yourself, policing what other women should or shouldn't be wearing. 🙄
Absolutely nothing wrong with talent, ability, intelligence etc, they're all great assets to have So fucking what if someone wants to wear revealing clothing, or "have their tits hanging out' as you so charmingly put it?!
Then you have the audacity to say it's me not being feminist enough 😂

I'm actually not "policing" anything. I am entitled to have a view on what they wear. They can wear what they want, and I can judge them on that as I choose. I am sick of seeing them in the news because of the clothes they wear. I think it's pretty pathetic that women feel the need to use their bodies like that. They might as well be Katie Price.

And you call yourself a 'Tart'. Wow.

David Tennant is no longer kind because he has a different view of trans kids and wore a tshirt?

But Meg Gibson who has said horrific anti-Semitic things is growing on you and trying his best?

Damn... This shit is wild.

TofuTart · 07/10/2024 00:58

And you call yourself a 'Tart'. Wow

😂🤣
It's a play on words. I love tofu, lil obsessed with it at the mo.
You can make tart like quiches with it as a vegan/egg free alternative.
Or you can have your interpretation of tarts (we all know your view of inappropriately behaving women so stands to reason you'd go there first)
It's like a double entendre if you've ever heard of them?!

Yeah, massively went off Mel Gibson after what he allegedly said about Winona Ryder. 😡

EdgeOfSixty · 07/10/2024 01:00

@Runnerinthenight
What Starmer has done is nothing compared with the Tories.
Has he made a known sexual harasser Deputy Chief Whip, made Ress-Mogg lie to the Queen to prorogue Parliament, tried to use donations to refurbish his Downing St flat or change the rules to get Owen Paterson off the hook?
No, he accepted a number of donations (within the rules and declared) and I would rather he hadn't. No comparisons.

TofuTart · 07/10/2024 01:09

Thought of one - the actor who played Hyde in That 70s Show (Danny Masterson)
Loved watching that and sickened when it came out about him.

You didn't answer me?

Oh, I'm so sorry bestie!!!

I think Joanne is a hypocrite. Pure and simple.

She built a career on purposely hiding her feminine name to help boost her sales. And went on to use another male pseudonym after a very successful franchise... it screams internalised misogyny to me... again, it's truly a pity she isn't confident in the power of female authors.

She also built a successful franchise with the core themes of love and acceptance in all forms. She happily pushed this agenda to those who felt marginalised by society for who they are, often vulnerable teenagers, once she lined her pockets enough, turned her back on those who got her there. And that's not even with getting into the thinly veiled racist and homophobic stereotypes in her work.

I find it HILARIOUS that her entire career is based on creating work that she won't put against her name, instead happy to hide behind a male name when it suits her...

She's free to identify with and as whatever she wants, that's her right and perogative of course. Just think it's a bit hypocritical that she can't offer that to others.

Hope that answers your question!

You must have reading comprehension issues.

David Tennant has been a twat and totally refused to engage with concerns about women's rights and safeguarding. There is absolutely a difference between disagreeing and not even listing to people while calling them nasty names and being self-righteous.

Mel Gibson, despite his fuck ups, seem to be well aware of his failings, which I think makes him much less annoying than he used to be.

I get that Novak is unlikeable, but I can't fathom why people would dislike him simply because he didn't want a certain vaccine put into his own body. He's an athlete. His body is his livelihood.

Anyway, there are plenty. Yes to all the woman haters already mentioned.

I don't disrespect him for his stance on vaccines (well, actually I do a bit because I'm a scientist, but as you say his body his choice). I disrespect him a LOT for coming to Australia, expecting the rules to be different from him, and complaining about the quarantine accommodations that were in a hotel that had been used to house refugees for months on end when he was in there less than a week. I have personally been into the hotel in question, and it is a normal bog standard hotel. While locking people up anywhere for months is appalling, Djokovic was there less than two weeks.

@Moonshiny do you acknowledge that using an ambigious name as an author, and requesting permittance to single-sex spaces have a different social implications.

Oprah Winfrey, after the Megan and Harry interview.
Holly Willoughby for not sticking by a friend.
Harry and Megan.

Totally agree about HW never understood why she was so upset with PS.
