I was looking forward to these for dinner but the use by is the 2nd. They're from Marks if that makes a difference.
Would you risk it?

No. Maybe one day but even then it's dodgy. I might if they were M & S but not Tescos.

RedToothBrush · 04/10/2024 17:23

Best Before is not Use By.

Salmon? Do you have a desire to get food poisoning?

Shyfrog · 04/10/2024 17:23

Yeah let us know how the food poisoning hits in a few days. M&s fishcakes are worth it lol. I’m just joking don’t do it

MumChp · 04/10/2024 17:24

No. Never with fish

Viviennemary · 04/10/2024 17:24

Sorry didn't read your post properly. . Hmm not sure. M & S sell buy date are quite generous I believe so probably would eat them.

Hatty65 · 04/10/2024 17:26

Golly. I'd sniff them and eat them, personally. I'm pretty lax about dates. I'm clearly in the minority though.

Chaiilatte · 04/10/2024 17:27

No definitely don't eat fish out of date. It's not worth it.

DappledThings · 04/10/2024 17:28

I would if they smelt ok

LittleBoPeepHasLostHerShit · 04/10/2024 17:28

100% no

ekalf · 04/10/2024 17:30

You've scared me into throwing them in the bin. Food poisoning would certainly ruin the weekend. What a shame, hate wasting food!

OP posts:
SunQueen24 · 04/10/2024 17:31

No. I like to avoid D&V if possible.

Peonies12 · 04/10/2024 17:33

I would - those dates are total rubbish. I wish they’d get rid of them. They just make people waste food and buy more. I’ve never paid attention to a date

SpyOfHut6 · 04/10/2024 17:33

I would from M&S. A friend from uni worked in a fish factory in the holidays. M&S bought the best grade fish and put a short sell by on. Other shops bought a lesser grade of fish and put nearly twice the sell by date on.

I’d smell them first and cook well.

Shyfrog · 04/10/2024 17:35

Isn’t the eat by date determined by the food standards agency

CaptainCabinetsTrappedInCabinets · 04/10/2024 17:38

I wouldn't risk it with salmon. Had a nasty D&V episode after some salmon that wasn't even out of date.

saveforthat · 04/10/2024 17:39

Just smell them if they have been well chilled they will be fine 2 days past is nothing, they are very cautious with the dates.

SpyOfHut6 · 04/10/2024 17:39

I think use by is safety and best before relates to when it tastes the best.

FSA input on date will be a limit I imagine, rather than a target.

Bestfootfwd · 04/10/2024 17:47

Yup

user2848502016 · 04/10/2024 17:51

No I wouldn't after 2 days with meat/fish

Carseatcarq · 04/10/2024 17:58

Just no, unless you have the next few days free to stay close to a toilet
