Can you give me examples of sayings which are 'down wid the dudes'?

Light hearted.

WhatsApp messages between mum and two daughters.

Two of us messaged at exactly the same time 'spill the beans/tea'.

And the argument ensued ....

Apparently 'spill the tea' (her) is correct as in 'spill the tea gurl' (daughter's spelling) and she insists she's correct and 'spill the beans' (me) is obsolete.

She (tongue in cheek) said 'I is right cos I is rizz'.

I have no idea what that means, but can you give me examples of cool dude sayings so that I can continue this conversation in the same manner?

We're discussing gen X, gen Z and millennials and I feel a bit lost.

I need to 'get down' with the new street parlance so that I can surprise them.

rizz - charismatic

you were right with the beans! we used to say spill the bongos too

i can only speak of what is "down" with some teen and tween boys - that would be rizz, skibidi, ohio, mewing, cap/no cap (i think, and it is to do with lying, not hats) for a start

i would advise make up your own and start a trend

I’d see skill the beans and spill the tea as two different things.

Spill the beans= let something slip/give info unintentionally.
“Did you hear Sharon drunkenly say her sister got a facelift when she went to Turkey two years ago and told everyone that she was off sick with gastro? Shaz really spilled the beans”.

Spill the tea= purposefully gossip.
“Guess what Sharon just told me about her sister?!”
”Sit down, spill alllll the tea”.

I actually asked a younger colleague to help me with this this week - I’m only mid-thirties but don’t understand half the things my team say as they’re in their 20s! 😭Slay = good, can be a noun or a verb. Peak = bad. “She ate and left no crumbs” = did a great job (of whatever she was doing). “It’s giving X” so for example if someone is wearing red and green you could say “it’s giving Christmas.”

tothesea · 04/10/2024 10:21

My teens think it’s hilarious when I copy them saying ‘ Errm what the sigma’. I have no idea what it means.

I have found myself saying ‘Oh skibidi’ for mild annoyance instead oh bother or similar. That’s not the right meaning but I don’t care ..I’ve appropriated it for myself!

Amumslife85 · 04/10/2024 10:21

Apparently gyatt is the new term for someones bum although there is an overlap because bunda also means bum or big back the same and has nothing to do with anyones actually back or the size of it.And rizz is short for charisma? Spill the tea gurrl I say that and I'm 39 hahaha. It has sadly replaced spill the beans and means give me the gossip. Or ooo shes always got the best tea (loves a good jangle aka nosey parker ) ha. As for no cap yes this is "I'm not lying" I just cannot adjust to "bet" it doesn't sit well with me that one ha.

haha! this reminds me of this:

I think sigma is to do with the person being an individual and independent in a good way. but then I hear it being used in a completely different sense and no longer have a clue. Like "how is your sigma" ??

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 04/10/2024 10:27

Oh - these are good.

I've got to somehow weave them into the 'convo' (see, I'm getting it down).

This is a sporadic thing that goes on throughout the day whenever they get a minute at work.

It's gone quiet for now so I've got time to work on the next line. I'll have a go at making some up or I could try and dredge up some colloquialisms we used when we were young.

Gigs - weren't musical shows they were reading spectacles.

Spice - wasn't a drug which induced stupor it was sweets

Piece - was a good looking bloke

Bit - was an ugly bloke.

Chuddy - that's a lovely word, it was chewing gum.

When I google sigma I get 18th letter of Greek alphabet or something to do with standard deviation.

Does it mean deviant now?

I'm going to try and use my rizz. Grin

Hate it but I have started saying “what the sigma” too

I just asked my teen. Sigma is another version of the "alpha" it means like a lone wolf who does his own thing, is independent, the strong silent type (whilst the alpha is a leader) and doesnt run with the pack. It's very cool apparently and possibly better than being an alpha.

I've been schooled

I thought bunda was “big bum” (in a good way) but “big back” was fat (in a bad way)? And gyatt is just a generic bum?

In my day “big back” meant the same as the current “bunda” but the way I hear kids use it now it sounds more like an overall thing. Like “wow, my big back self really ate the whole cake”.

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 04/10/2024 10:44

So I've dropped a few examples in there now and the reply was.

Mum where you getting these from - the urban dictionary?

Which indicates that I'm not doing it right.

puzzlesandactivediscussions · 04/10/2024 10:44

My 14 YO son stopped saying 'what the Sigma' when we went to visit his 5 year old cousins and they were saying it too. 😆

StolenChanel · 04/10/2024 10:45

Another good one to drop in is “meady” - unattractive. “No I don’t have a crush on him; he’s meady”.

(Editing to say, probably best without the semi-colon though! 😄)

Figleafpants · 04/10/2024 10:45

So glad I'm not alone. My son keeps telling his brother to "stop capping" and for ages it confused me because he doesnt wear hats 😂

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 04/10/2024 10:45

So what's Ohio?

I've used that one possibly out of context.

Does this mean "minging" is out?

Yes that’s how my teen uses big back too

Does this mean "minging" is out?

Minging = out.
Meady = in

Hot/buff/peng = out.
Leng = in (although this has been “in” for a few years now so there’s probably an update that I’m not privy to…)

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 04/10/2024 10:51

@MagpiePi

Do you have to have tik tok to watch that?

Doesn't seem two minutes since I got Facebook.

When I clicked the link I got video of someone washing shoes.
