Can you give me examples of sayings which are 'down wid the dudes'?

Light hearted.

WhatsApp messages between mum and two daughters.

Two of us messaged at exactly the same time 'spill the beans/tea'.

And the argument ensued ....

Apparently 'spill the tea' (her) is correct as in 'spill the tea gurl' (daughter's spelling) and she insists she's correct and 'spill the beans' (me) is obsolete.

She (tongue in cheek) said 'I is right cos I is rizz'.

I have no idea what that means, but can you give me examples of cool dude sayings so that I can continue this conversation in the same manner?

We're discussing gen X, gen Z and millennials and I feel a bit lost.

I need to 'get down' with the new street parlance so that I can surprise them.

I'll never get used to it but I'm going to try and remember as much as I can and drop the odd bit into conversation when I'm speaking to professional people - like a GP, or the grandchildren's teachers.

It's a steep learning curve - I've already forgotten most of the meanings up thread.

What shall I say when I pick the grandchildren up later?

Wa Gwan ma Fam
Means - how are you my beloved family?

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 04/10/2024 12:58

@Hoppinggreen

That sounds Geordie when I say it in my Yorkshire accent.

Apparently gyatt is the new term for someones bum although there is an overlap because bunda also means bum or big back the same and has nothing to do with anyones actually back or the size of it.And rizz is short for charisma? Spill the tea gurrl I say that and I'm 39 hahaha. It has sadly replaced spill the beans and means give me the gossip. Or ooo shes always got the best tea (loves a good jangle aka nosey parker ) ha. As for no cap yes this is "I'm not lying" I just cannot adjust to "bet" it doesn't sit well with me that one ha.

My 10 (almost 11) year old spent a couple of days last week teaching the toddler to say gyatt, now he will happily shout ‘gyatt! Gyatt! Gyatt!’ Out of the blue, eg in Greggs… luckily not many people in Greggs know what a gyatt is.

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 04/10/2024 12:59

Something that Bob Mortimer would say.

How do pronounce gyatt? I’ll say it to my 12 year old DD later see what reaction it gets

Hello fellow Yorkie !!!
You have to do it in a "Jafaican" accent for it to work properly

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 04/10/2024 13:04

@Tisfortired

My grandson (2 years) was shouting 'fock, fock, fock' in the supermarket, getting louder and louder.

I think people were thinking there was a 'u' in the word by the way they were looking at me and pretending to be extremely shocked.

He was telling me that he had thrown a sock on the floor. His wellies had come off 10 minutes before.

I actually asked a younger colleague to help me with this this week - I’m only mid-thirties but don’t understand half the things my team say as they’re in their 20s! 😭Slay = good, can be a noun or a verb. Peak = bad. “She ate and left no crumbs” = did a great job (of whatever she was doing). “It’s giving X” so for example if someone is wearing red and green you could say “it’s giving Christmas.”

🤣🤣 I love that your understanding is so on point!

HansHolbein · 04/10/2024 13:07

‘What the gyat rizz’ seems popular at the moment.

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 04/10/2024 13:09

@HansHolbein

So thats - what is the large backside charisma?

here's some helpful translations for you:
'she ate and left no crumbs'
'mother is mothering'
'she's serving c#nt'
'she popped off with that one'

I'm enjoying that being cunty is a positive thing right now.

Sethera · 04/10/2024 15:58

“She ate and left no crumbs” = did a great job (of whatever she was doing)

For a piece of modern slang, that one sounds charmingly old-fashioned.

NashvilleQueen · 04/10/2024 16:02

'Serving cunt' is a big one at the moment. Also Junty. Which I think is a variation on the theme. Basically looking good.

And calling women (who aren't your mother) mother.

isthismylifenow · 04/10/2024 16:28

I sent my dd a photo of a new outfit I had on.

Her reply: Slay gurl...

I don't know if we are behind, but if she's speaks of a booty (decent bum) she calls it a shelf. Been working out today, gonna get me a mean shelf.

Gossip is dram-a-lam. Also tea

Movies are flix (that is having a comeback)

I can't wait to use some of these already posted now 😂

wwyd2021medicine · 04/10/2024 16:43

Mogging or mogged

This seems to be used when someone is better looking than others in some way - male or female eg on a night out or in a photo

So DD's boyfriend will say something like 'Mogging it queen' if she sends him a pic of her out with female friends to say she is the best looking

He said recently that her dinner mogged his when they were out because it was nicer but it's usually appearance I think

Trappedmumof3 · 04/10/2024 16:48

Gyatt = gosh your arse is thick = You've got a big bum!!

The more t's you add to it signifies how big your bum is, so if you have a huge bum you'd be gyattttttt!!

Pronounced ghee-yat, or ghee-yat-t-t-t-t

Apparently!

CabraCadabra · 04/10/2024 17:00

A lot of these are from the ballroom scene. I wonder how they made their way from the 1980s Black and Latina LGBT community to British teenagers in 2024 😄

CheekyHobson · 04/10/2024 18:24

‘Swole’ means muscly, ‘getting swole’ means putting on muscle.

’Mid’ (personal favourite) means average or just okay.
”How was your day?”
“Pretty mid.”

Sethera · 05/10/2024 21:29

I heard 'giving' in the wild today! Two young women discussing clothes in a charity shop:

"That's giving 30 wannabe 20"
"That's giving schoolgirl"

I've now decided I like it and I will try to shoehorn it into the next conversation I have with a Gen Z.

To be honest I'd differentiate between the skibidis, caps, etc and the "serving cunt" (or worse "you are trash I will date you" which i have heard too), if DS came out with that we'd be having a conversation about respectful language and misogyny.

But to answer the question, there is a lot of oversexualised inappropriate stuff aimed at kids at the moment, so extensive it could almost be a funded agenda (ha ha), so that might be it.

Sorry to add a bit of seriousness to an otherwise funny thread though.
