Have you lost weight eating lots of soup?

It's always put forward that soup is healthy and good for weight loss. Now it's getting cold. I thought I'd give this a go to help me lose a stone.

Can anyone recommend a container that keeps soup hot? We don’t have a microwave at work but thinking I could heat up at home in the morning

I would just use a normal flask.

I have been doing this since Friday and although I am not weighing myself until the first of november my rings are slipping around my fingers. Todays soup was Italian meatball pasta soup and borscht with sour cream and toast.

Chunky soups (that are homemade and not processed crap) are great! Things with lots of veg, beans or lentils are best.

I'd skip the bread completely.

I can't lose weight with soup...It's not the soup so much as the half a loaf of bread and butter that goes with mine..I'm probably doing it wrong! 😂

I made the chicken tortilla soup, it's lovely and really filling

I made a vat of minestrone minus pasta/potato/rice which has lasted until today. Today I’ve made mushroom, leek and kidney beans. All tasted fantastic and its been nice to know what I am eating rather than choose my own adventure!

If you want to go hard, avoid the really starchy veg so stick to broccoli / cauliflower / greens / leeks but make it nice and creamy with soured cream swirled in at the end - and make sure you have some protein on the side so eg a sliced cooked chicken breast.

I actuallly have a large zip lock freezer bag that I add all the ends of broccoli, middle of cauliflower, leftover veg, parsley stalks, wilting celery etc then when it's full, I fry a chopped onion / celery / carrot then chuck all the veg in. Cover with water and a load of bouillon power or just vegetable stock and add a couple of handfuls of lentils. Thyme and white pepper are good for adding depth.

Then half an hour later blitz it and add water / splash of milk until correct texture.

This is a great idea, I'm going to start doing this.

Yes, I've lost just over 5 stone in the last year. Second only to massively reducing my drinking, soup has made the biggest difference.

Like others here, I make end-of-the-week fridge and lentil soup - I like to add chilli and lemon to mine. Also pea and ham (dried marrowfat peas or split yellow) and chicken and pearl barley. If I put plenty of pulses in I'm not so tempted to have bread with it. I make a big pan, eat it for a couple of days, then freeze the leftovers in portions.

I remember years ago Michael Moseley said it takes longer to digest soup than solid food so it keeps you fuller for longer. I did MFP when I was just starting out and the soups do come out surprisingly low calorie for how satisfying they are. Also homemade casseroles and stews, as long as you can go easy on the dumplings.

Wow, that's incredible. Would you mind sharing more of your strategy?

So you just live on soup until you reach your desired weight?

For me I'm just swapping my usual sandwich lunch for soup
More nutrients, more veg and less bread and less chance of me wanting crisps on the side Grin
I don't eat breakfast and I'm keeping my evening meals the same

We use these flasks for soup at work - great design because it includes a spoon:

If you have your calorie intake, you will reduce your metabolic rate to nothing. Look up calculating your calories per day for loss, maintenance or gain and if you are in deficit, you will lose. Reduce it too much and your loss will tail off.

This simply isnt true otherwise people wouldnt starve to death and people who have had weight loss surgery and can only eat extremely low calories for months on end wouldnt see their weight dropping off like they do.

I keep thinking that this would be a good way to lose weight as I love soup and make really good ones.
Then I remember that I don't really love soup, I love thickly buttered bread dipped in soup

😂

I made a lovely carrot and lentil soup in my soup maker. It was really filling and felt very healthy.
