It's always put forward that soup is healthy and good for weight loss. Now it's getting cold. I thought I'd give this a go to help me lose a stone.

yes i make a pot lasts for 3 days either breakfast lunch or dinner

wetpebbles · 29/09/2024 12:17

i use a frozen veg and stock cubes for a really easy and quick soup

Hoppinggreen · 29/09/2024 12:19

I keep thinking that this would be a good way to lose weight as I love soup and make really good ones.
Then I remember that I don't really love soup, I love thickly buttered bread dipped in soup

Home made vegetable soup will contain lots of nutrients and not many calories.

Mmhmmn · 29/09/2024 14:14

Homemade soups that are just made of veg are bound to help weight loss. Shop-bought soups will have more fat and sugar in them. And salt.

VanillaSox · 29/09/2024 14:52

I’m in!
For the last few days I have been eating mostly cooked tomatoes (put them in the microwave for few minutes, add a knob of butter, black pepper and bajs gold mineral sea salt and it feels like a hearty meal, very tasty but not much in the way of calories. Sometimes add done tinned spinach and one ‘meal’ a day add in a few bites of cooked salmon.
I haven’t felt hungry at all…

kaos2 · 29/09/2024 15:00

Make your own soup, you only lose weight by being in a calorie deficit so if you make heavy veg soup and it fills you up with one piece or no bread for one meal then your overall calorie intake for the day will be low.

Download nutracheck and eat under your tdee . You will lose weight ✅

brightpompoms · 29/09/2024 17:57

Why not make a massive pan of a different soup each week and freeze into portions. Over time you'll have a freezer filled with different flavours to give you choice.

Amazon do a great silicone mould to freeze soup into portions then you can store in zip lock bags.

Not the kind of soups I make sadly!
But I can imagine it works well without all the butter and cream 🤣

Scaredymaclaredy · 29/09/2024 18:29

I have done the leek soup someone else mentioned though from French women don’t get fat though .Very good but serious diuretic effect!

oObyeOo · 29/09/2024 18:56

No. Because soup is only there to dunk bread in to

Dracuuule · 30/09/2024 08:56

Anyone starting today? It's a good day for soup! Weather is cold and wet.

I've prepped a lentil and carrot soup so that's ready to go for lunch. I'm wfh today and that makes life easier.

Low calorie soups are never very filling - yes, you’ll likely lose weight but you’ll also be hungry!

Doesn’t weight loss = hunger????

Houseplanter · 01/10/2024 16:10

I'm in! I made 2 lots of soup yesterday and have just ordered that silicone tray mentioned upthread.

The trick is working out what fills you up for the least calories. More calories not always more filling. Beans, pulses, vegetables are going to fill you up without loads of calories.

HotSource · 02/10/2024 08:13

I’m in!

Made a pan of carrot and lentil yesterday, Ate one bowl for lunch, have another for today, 2 portions in the freezer.

I’m doing a bit of a reset, and losing 3 or 4 Kg.

Breakfast: Blueberries, oat bran, Greek yogurt (1 spoon) with some flax seed and a couple of walnuts

Lunch: bowl of soup, one thin slice wholemeal toast , salad

Dinner: Normal sensible dinner, small portion of carbs, nothing fried or steeped in melted cheese.

Snack: a grapefruit / 2 small thin ‘Peter’s yard’ crackers with an almost transparently thin slice of Red Leicester, or a mug of cocoa made with semi skim, cocoa powder (not hot choc) no sugar.

I lose fairly steadily on this pattern.

Need to think of another soup to make tomorrow.

That’s true for any calorie restricted diet. You just have to accept that you’re going to be hungry if you’re eating fewer calories.

Dracuuule · 02/10/2024 08:43

To be honest, I don't see the point of a low calorie soup if it's going to replace a meal.
As an example, if you were doing 1200 calories a day,
You could do
300 for breakfast
400 for lunch
400 for dinner
100 snack

400 calories could be quite a hearty soup and could include a slice of bread.

Proper soup, yes. Not these crappy "cup-a-soups" that are 100 cals.

I've started making sweet potato soup, my absolute favourite. But I always ensure I add a mix of protein, fats and carbs to the meal as a whole so I remain full!

E.g. Soup with couple of slices of seeded bread and a pot of proper yoghurt :)

Do you make your sweet potato soup with coconut milk? Mine is quite calorie laden as it’s chilli, sweet potato plus coconut milk!

Hi, no I don't - that sounds yum, I must give that a try!!

I just do a load of sweet potatoes, onions, garlic, sometimes carrots/parnips, stock, water, and herbs/spices that I fancy.

Apollo365 · 02/10/2024 12:28

Dracuuule · 02/10/2024 14:12

I'm doing a beef and veg one today. It's actually a stew but what is a stew but another version of soup? Smile
