The crappy Shark has died - Boring thread about what vacuum next!

Arguably the worst vacuum I've ever had has finally died 🎉

I don't want to make another mistake like that and procrastinating over what to buy.

I think I want an upright and was thinking Sebo Felix and then I see Miele getting recommended a lot too but not sure about cylinder as always found my mums harder work than the upright. Think I am going bagged this time.

Mostly carpet and carpeted stairs too.

Any experience of those two or other recommendations?

(My Friday nights used to be sooooo much more interesting! 🤦🏻‍♀️)

I've always gone for Henry, mine died recently and I got a new one and it's brilliant. They're a lot smaller and lighter these days but the bags are the same size.

However I've heard Miele cat and dog is good though I've never used one.

Blarn · 27/09/2024 19:57

Miele. We have a cylinder one but they do upright. We only replaced our first one after about 7 years as it vacuumed up a heroic amount of brick dust and got slightly damaged when we moved house. Still use it for DIY! Wouldn't buy anything else now and bags are so much better tan bagless.

Watching with interest. I also hate my shark!

I've got an upright sebo and it is fantastic

Patienceinshortsupply · 27/09/2024 19:58

We had a Miele pet one for years before we went down the dreadful Dyson route and now have a Shark that I love. I do think there's a lot to say for bags instead of this grotty filter/chamber washing that is pretty vile. It was very good, but it didn't brush beat the carpets like the Shark does.

bluecomputerscreen · 27/09/2024 20:03

never used an upright one but have a miele cat&dogs and, oh boy, it sucks (in a good way!).
it's narrow enough to fit on the stairs without falling down. and not too heavy.

piscofrisco · 27/09/2024 20:06

W also bought a shark. For a ridiculous amount of money. It worked for about two weeks. We have had to revert to our Henry which whilst unwieldy and annoying on the stairs, does the job.

YorkshireIndie · 27/09/2024 20:06

Miele cat and dog!

DGPP · 27/09/2024 20:14

Henry. Cheap and just brilliant. Had ours seven years

Chipsahoy · 27/09/2024 20:15

Miele. I was sceptical. Bought the cheapest after years of dysons. My word, the suction is insane. 2 yrs on and it’s as good as new.

HighPrecisionGhosts · 27/09/2024 20:16

We have a Sebo. It is 21 yrs old. It's gone through alot of building works

I want a Miele but the Sebo is a tank that refuses to die.

stayathomer · 27/09/2024 20:16

I’m going to ignore what you want and say Henry (but hetty- pink version!)

Hocuspocus99 · 27/09/2024 20:22

Advice from a cleaner , buy a Sebo . The only one that is reliable and robust will last for years . I have the x7 . It is the larger one of the bunch . But the quality of a Sebo and the ease of maintenance is fabulous .

PiggieWig · 27/09/2024 20:23

I’ve had Dyson, Meile, Henry and Shark and Meile wins hands down. I love it.

Disclaimer: I do prefer a cylinder. It’s light and nippy though.

WhiteCatsRock · 27/09/2024 20:27

i find this thread interesting because I do wonder what else is good out there. However I find the main issue with sharks is that people don’t change the filters near as regular as they should (and the battery powered ones aren’t great either). When I realised the mistakes I was making with Shark I got replacement filters and what a difference it made

Ihopeyoudance · 27/09/2024 20:33

Also, Shark customer service are fantastic if it's still in warranty. They have replaced various parts for us, and replaced the whole unit on one occasion too which then meant a whole new warranty!

underseige05 · 27/09/2024 20:37

Hated my shark cordless, constantly having to unblock and cut hair out of it even though it had anti hair wrap technology 🙄
Bought the XL Henry and never looked back. Much more light weight than the older ones and never gets blocked or needs a filter cleaning like the shark.

Eastie77Returns · 27/09/2024 20:38

My Shark died after a few weeks and we reverted to the battered Henry we thankfully didn’t throw away. I’ve heard Shark customer services are great - I did e-mail and they told me to call so they can resolve the issue for me - but I just can’t be bothered. What a waste of money.

MusicLife80 · 27/09/2024 20:40

At Henry’s really that good? My old cleaner had one but my Shark does so much better. Best was the Dyson an old one til the builder wrecked it

redtrain123 · 27/09/2024 20:44

Our shark has also died, and was always blocking up.

Needed a hoover for wooden floor and pet hairs and gone for Dyson V15 (I think). Much more powerful and and has a groovy green light so you can see the dust. Dh is pleased with it so far (he does the hoovering).

When we had carpets in old house, had sebo. Really good hoover).

We've had a Hetty for about five years now and it's been invaluable during extension building and dealing with the hair of our four cats. Only cost £99, replacement bags are cheap in Proper Job or on Amazon. It's brilliant!

drspouse · 27/09/2024 20:46

After going through Dyson and Shark we now have a handheld Henry.
The DCs were very disappointed as they thought it was going to be a round one like at school.

Surelyitscoffeetime · 27/09/2024 20:49

Hated every part of our Dyson. 100% recommend Miele.

Ladyandherspaniel · 27/09/2024 20:53

I work for Argos. Our best selling hoover IS the Henry or versions of...
I literally see one every shift..
I rarely see a Dyson being bought, actually I can't remember the last Dyson I gave out. A lot of sharks but so many customers are going back to Henry's and many say we are replacing our shark coz its rubbish and they are in getting a Henry.
