My sausage vanished

Made toad in the hole for tea, put three whole sausages in. Just took it out of the oven and there's only two and a half in the dish. It's not in the dish (I've scraped it out well), not in the oven and I live alone so no spoony fuckers to interfere. Ideas please? I feel like I'm going mad!

(Also please no judging my batter - first time I've used GF flour for this and it didn't go quite right!)

I think I was seeing thick, I interpreted it as part of the pudding batter! 😂

I'm going with the theory that it was a peculiar sausage which had an abnormal amount of apple and/or fat in one end and it disintegrated when heated. The small piece you found OP is what remained of the shrivelled casing

I think this must be true. That lump of apple was half a sausage and the minuscule piece of sausage was the shrunken skin. How disappointing.
