My sausage vanished

Made toad in the hole for tea, put three whole sausages in. Just took it out of the oven and there's only two and a half in the dish. It's not in the dish (I've scraped it out well), not in the oven and I live alone so no spoony fuckers to interfere. Ideas please? I feel like I'm going mad!

(Also please no judging my batter - first time I've used GF flour for this and it didn't go quite right!)

It's one of the cats, whichever one is far away from the scene of the crime and is kicking its paws in 6 hours.....they are ninja sneaky x

LovelyDaaling · 26/09/2024 22:00

Did the sausage escape from the batter and is cowering in the corner of the oven?

BlackOrangeFrog · 26/09/2024 22:03

QuestionableMouse · 26/09/2024 19:25

See?

Not looking forward to washing it either! Think it'll be fine though, it's soaking ATM then will go through the dishwasher.

There's another bit here ... If you could find them all, you could piece them together in a sausage puzzle!

That’s a sausage soufflé.

OP, your cats are holding it hostage. Demand its return.

llamali · 26/09/2024 22:14

When you soak it can you have a look and see if any bits have been stuck on the bottom of the pan? This is a mystery. Perhaps that half was all apple and it'd just got mushed into the batter?

Sandwichgen · 26/09/2024 22:24

If the kitchen door is open it will be a fox. They are sausage ninjas

My cat strolled in with a whole sausage once. Were you being watched by any random felines?

I was going to say this too. Except it's been more than once. Sausages are legitimate prey for cats and they can teleport through doors.

The cats were never near it because they were closed in the living room!

Cats (and dogs) can easily slip through doors unseen. My cat once hooked a pork chop out from under the grill while it was cooking.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 26/09/2024 22:54

Jesus Christ.

Is toad-in-the-hole meant to look like that?!

I pictured it much more appetising.

poetrylover · 26/09/2024 22:55

I think it's on the floor or still in the oven too. Or one of your cats has mr tickle arms and has reached under the gap under the door.

Was it already cut in half before you put it in? If not it's exploded into smithereens and you just can't see it.

🤔This happens to me with chocolate

Me too 😂

AllTheChaos · 26/09/2024 22:57

If one of the cats is off their food tonight then you’ll know who the sausage thief is. Well, if my fat felines are anything to go by anyway!

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 26/09/2024 23:04

Just use cornflour instead of gluten free flour. It makes perfect pancakes and Yorkshire puds

Renamed · 26/09/2024 23:11

One half of your sausage was mostly fat

I used to but something about the texture is giving me the ick at the moment! 🙃

That's what you think. Your cats are secret ninjas. Just because you've never seen them pass through walls doesn't mean they can't.

There's nothing there 😂

PortiasBiscuit · 27/09/2024 08:02

Where do you live? Bet it was my DH!

QuestionableMouse · 27/09/2024 12:42

Hartlepool lol!

No sign of it this morning either - I've even pulled the cooker out!

No foxes here (well they are about, but getting through a security door, up a flight of stairs, through my flat door and into the kitchen would indeed be a feet!)

Am I the only one dreading washing that dish up?

It was fine! Put it in the sink last night with a dishwasher tab and hot water and it's mostly clean this morning!

That’s a big dish for toad in the hole for only 3 sausages, no wonder one got lost!

It really isn't @Emmacb82

Ask Kier Starmer. He knows all about sausages.

DixonD · 27/09/2024 13:26

QuestionableMouse · 26/09/2024 19:23

It was a fragment of sausage smaller than my thumbnail!

That must be a very tiny dish

DixonD · 27/09/2024 13:28

Boidont · 26/09/2024 19:45

I’m also wondering if this is a thing?!

Yes, not just apple too! You can lots of different stuff in sausages.
