Sandwiches

What's your sandwich of choice?

My dilemma today -
I fancy a cheese and pickle.
I have red leicester and extra mature cheddar.
Which one would you choose?
And grated or sliced?
(Tbe bread will be buttered if that makes any difference 😄)

Both of the cheeses 😊

Turnitoffnonagain · 26/09/2024 11:00

Sliced cheddar for me, ta. What kind of pickle have you got?

poppyzbrite4 · 26/09/2024 11:01

Sandwiches of choice: brie and tomato or egg mayonnaise. Accompanied by Walkers ready salted.

As for your dilemma, I don't like pickle, so would have mature cheddar sliced with crisps.

MissyB1 · 26/09/2024 11:03

Red Leicester, and if you ever run out of pickle, try cheese and marmite, it's a very similar (and yummy) flavour.

HappyDane · 26/09/2024 11:03

Both of the cheeses. Definitely grated. Makes for a much more enjoyable bite and a more satisfying mouthful.

ReallyNotsobad · 26/09/2024 11:05

I'd do a cheese and pickle toastie, both cheeses, the pickle on. Some mayo on the side to dip in, lovely!

NetballHoop · 26/09/2024 11:07

From your ingredients, cheddar and pickle.

My sandwich today will be smoked salmon, lemon juice & black pepper topped with really smelly camembert. I'm banned from eating it when DH is at home as he finds it too smelly (bloody lightweight).

CurlewKate · 26/09/2024 11:18

It depends on what sort of bread you have.

ThisHangryPinkBalonz · 26/09/2024 11:19

Both and grated - i wish i had pickle in the house😥

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 26/09/2024 11:40

Red Leicester, but with sliced pickled onion.

IntelligentInputDarling · 26/09/2024 12:19

You're all geniuses! I had never thought about using both cheeses... ever!

It's just Branston pickle and bread is homemade by the husband.

Whaddya mean JUST Branston Pickle? Branston Pickle is THE pickle.

And @ThisHangryPinkBalonz What can you possibly mean you have no pickle in the house? Do you not have at least two giant unopened jars of Branston in stock? Why not? I see some shocking things on here but this laissez-faire attitude to pickle is right up there. Tsk. 😂

I'm scared if I stock anything, Sainsbury's may report me to the police 😂... hoping I'm not the only one to understand that.

Oh yeah they'll have the pickle police right on you. It is sacred stuff!

HappyDane · 26/09/2024 12:48

Time to find a better chutney/pickle. 🙂

(Sorry, I know a lot of you love it...)

GiddyRobin · 26/09/2024 12:49

I'd have gone for both cheeses, too! Also looks fun if you make cheese on toast. Like stripes! 😆 Always sliced for a sandwich for me. Great big wedges!

My favoured sandwich is probably good mature cheddar, rocket, super ripe homegrown tomatoes, and cucumber. Though I am partial to a tuna crunch (sweetcorn, peppers, red/spring onion).

Oh, actually. Edit to say cheddar, crunchy peanut butter, and Marmite. It sounds so wrong but tastes so good.

But Branston isn't dangerous. If it is I'll be the first person to die of a Branston overdose. 😆

Yes, what is this “Branson” of which you all speak? Surely it has to be Shaw’s caramelised red onion chutney? Wonderful stuff, I’m lucky if it lasts a week in this house.

sandcastleart · 26/09/2024 13:01

@ThisHangryPinkBalonz 😂😂😂 as long as you are not stocking up on bleach 😉

CutthroatDruTheViolent · 26/09/2024 14:09

I'd have both, I prefer grated, small chunk pickle and butter on the side thank you please. Maybe a little smear of mayo as well.

You haven't seen how much I use ... literally use it like some use bleach 😂 @sandcastleart

IntelligentInputDarling · 26/09/2024 15:04

What's wrong with bleach?!
(Obviously VERY wrong in any sandwich, not just cheese and pickle 😄)
Tell me more...

Just a funny thread on mn - Sainsbury's reported a woman to the police for buying 10 bottles of bleach and a toilet duck.. wondered if it would be the same if I brought that much Branston 😂

What did you have in the end? Not sure if i missed it - obviously a busy day for me to be invested in people's lunch but i wont sleep otherwise 😂

IntelligentInputDarling · 26/09/2024 17:02

@ThisHangryPinkBalonz
Omg that's bonkers - link please!😅
Does that really happen?

I haven't eaten yet 😮
Work was really busy and now it's almost dinner time, which I've not really thought about, so maybe cheese and pickle sandwiches for all? 🤔
Would that be an acceptable dinner in your household 😉

White bread or if you have one a multigrain roll, the crusty topped kind.

Thick sliced mature cheddar, good layer of real butter and large chunk Branston pickle.
