I have completely wasted my day . I have stuff to do. What have I done . Fuck all. I have sat here all day doing big fat nothing stuffing my face . Have had no light bulb in the hall for a week . But no im sitting on my arse doing fuck all about it. I'm also way to hot because the sun is shining into my large windows. Do I have curtains.. nope they feel down months ago . Have I done anything anything about it. No fuck all .

The light bulb could be done in a moment if you have a spare. The day isn't over yet, there's plenty of time to get things done if you want to.

But, if you need to, having a do nothing kind of day is fine. No need to berate yourself if it's not bothering anyone else.

Tulip8 · 21/09/2024 16:52

Why are you talking like that?

The only way to get rid of a large and heavy backpack full of stones is to gradually remove one stone at a time.

DinaofCloud9 · 21/09/2024 16:55

OK so put your phone down and do it. It won't take long.

You'll be sitting down again browsing MN in no time.

I do think it's a bit like an avalanche sometimes, that once you start with one small thing then it's easier to carry on and do the next thing.

Have you tried reverse psychology? Even when you do it on yourself, it can be really motivatimg.

Tell yourself: I am absolutely not allowed to do anything today. Not a thing. I need to rest on this sofa and watch daytime TV and tell the family there's beans on toast for tea and they can make it.

Either you think, Oh bloody hell! and get itchy feet and get up and do stuff. Or, if you don;t, there is genuinely a good reason. You could be coming down with a virus or fighting one off or completely burnt out by life or battling with depression. In which cases, you do deserve a day of doing sod all with your own permission and no guilt.

Fescue · 21/09/2024 17:12

Do I have curtains.. nope they feel down months ago.

When our curtains are feeling a bit down, I normally take them away for a long weekend. I have some lovely chenille curtains from Dunelm and when it was so cold and grey this Spring, I took them with me to Dorset for a long weekend. They had a sea view from the window where we stayed. We chatted a lot on the journey down, though they said little and as usual it was a little one sided.

Shiningout · 21/09/2024 17:14

If you're going to chill and relax and do nothing you may aswell let yourself and enjoy it op. If these little jobs are stressing you out with not being done then try doing one and see how you feel? You either need to allow yourself to relax or do the jobs that are making you feel like shit, and then you can relax.

This ^^

Or an alternative method: the homework/study avoidance technique. You know when you used to tidy your room, reorder your shelves, do washing etc. to have an excuse not to study?
Well you can recreate this by finding another, even bigger job that needs to be done. Then you’ll start changing lightbulbs, hooking up curtains etc. as an excuse not to do the bigger task!

Ghostyghost · 21/09/2024 17:23

Yeah the problem is if I tell myself to do nothing all day . I will take that advice 😅

I was going to make marrocon lamb. But ds is eating left over take away . Dd wants to eat a crap microwave burger. I have been eating shit all day . I might just season it today and cook it tomorrow.

The sun not as much in my window now so I do t feel like im cooking. I do sometimes try a peak of energy at night time.

Anyway I just thought my son is tall her should be on light bulb duty 😅

I've done absolutely nothing today too but tbh I'm fucking knackered and I think everyone should have a down day from time to time. Tomorrow is a new day etc.

TheChosenTwo · 21/09/2024 17:27

Ooh I’ve done not much today either and semi annoyed with myself about it but also semi pleased I’ve had a really relaxing day.
Loads of things I could have been doing but equally they can all wait. I’m in quite a bit of pain today with something that’s ongoing but has flared up quite badly this last week so have allowed myself the rest.
Do something small if you can and if you don’t then you can always do it tomorrow!

Indeed I'm not having any visitors never do to be honest . As long as I get a little something done today/tomorrow. The world won't end.

Are you depressed?

TroysMammy · 21/09/2024 17:36

@Ghostyghost are you peri menopausal/menopausal? I'm only asking because I've developed into the Queen of Procrastination. I don't think I've done much today but if I write it down I have at least done something. Top up food shopping, prepared 1.5kg vegetables to make piccalilli tomorrow, washed dishes, hung clothes out to dry, responded to the senders of 2 Postcrossing postcards received and spent the rest of the time doom scrolling the internet.

If I make a things I have done list there are more things done than ticked on a things to do list.

That's exactly how I feel it matters but also does not matter. I didn't sleep well last night. Got woken by my food shop delivery this morning so didn't have that wake up come round sort of feeling . I have spent the day eating my food shop 😅. It would br nice to get a few bits done but also it does nkt matter . Definitely always tomorrow 🤣

I'm sorry your on so much pain . Definitely take it easy . I hope it does not last to long.💐
