Wondering if it's just me who has a brain that retains truly useless information like jingles and entire scripts to adverts from yonks ago

For me its

  • 122 years of hovis
  • legit every word to the cheer up ever green frog singing to the tune of daydream believer
  • accrington stanley milk
  • the entire poem from Comfort Vaporesse
  • orange Wednesdays.... 'baby, we should go every Wednesday!'

Honestly would be way better if I could switch some memory cells for something actually useful 😂

Anyone else?!

Oh goodness, reams of old adverts live in the archives of my brain.

People have problems
Over the years
Midland Bank
Has very good ears
Come and talk, talk to the Midland, come and talk to the listening bank

I could do without the English weather
On the way home at the end of my tether
My feet are killing me
I could do with a D

Where did you bury the car?
In the sand! I'm not helping much, am I?
Yes, there may well be sand in the carburettor ...

The Heineken advert with the posh woman being asked to say 'The water in Majorca don't taste like what it oughta'.

JohnTheRevelator · 20/09/2024 18:57

The Kit Kat advert from 1984. 'You can't sing, you can't play, you look awful. You'll go far'.

HappytoH3lp · 20/09/2024 18:59

I know it’s not an advert per se, but does anyone remember on kids Saturday morning tv, the number they would advertise/ you would have to call to enter a competition 081 811 8181, which they said in a sing song way

My favourite KitKat advert was this one (you have to watch it to get it!)

The coffee advert that was like a soap story with the couple who lived in the same building. Might have been Kenco?
The gas advert I think with the dog, mouse and cat in front of the fire.

Second class return to Nottingham please! Tunes!

Vicks Sinex, course you can Malcolm!

I keep asking Dh if he remembers "Course you can Malcolm" Was it Vicks Sinex?

We say "Course you can Malcolm" at least once a day in this house. It was the 1970's and we still say it. Also the thick hippo that just said "NINE!"

Yellow Pages - JR Hartley looking for his book on fly fishing.

McCains - men singing in a van

AnneElliott · 20/09/2024 19:23

I remember Accrington Stanley milk one op.

The others I remember are the British Gas fires one with a dog, a cat and a mouse

Plus the one advertising Wimpy - changing the words of the song to say 'Hey Girl we're having a Wimpy'

Shupra · 20/09/2024 19:23

Ian Wright chicken tonight

Chrissy Waddle and Southgate selling pizza hut

Bbq1 · 20/09/2024 19:27

The one where the animals cuddle up in front of a fire. A dog, cat and mouse as I remember. Think it was for British Gas?

Arlanymor · 20/09/2024 19:29

Loads that been mentioned here already, but also:

Delta Airlines advert with Ademius composed by Karl Jenkins. Gorgeous song. Also Lakmé’s Flower Duet that was the soundtrack to a British Airways advert.

Isotonic Lucozade with John Barnes. “It gets to your thirst - fast.”

The Peter Kay ‘no nonsense’ ones for John Smiths. “She’s worried about the wardrobe monsters… no, it’s the burglars coming in through your windows that you need to be worried about!”

Peperami - it’s a bit of an animal! Featuring Ade Edmondson.

Tonight you're mine completely
You give your love so sweetly
Tonight the light of love is in your eyes
But will you love me tomorrow?

Real Fires I think it was?

You’ve just reminded me of the one where the woman pretends to make coffee machine noises so that people don’t guess she is using instant!
