Would you anonymously report someone who drives whilst stoned?

New neighbours moved in fairly recently. They seem nice and friendly, a couple with a young child. The dad smokes weed like there's no tomorrow, he's got a gazebo with a patio heater where he sits smoking whilst the mum puts the little one to bed every evening. I'm not bothered what he does in his own garden so I've just said nothing, but I've now realised he is also having a morning spliff with his coffee out there, then getting in the car to drive the little one to nursery and go to work. On the days he isn't doing nursery drop off I've seen him get into his car smoking as he drives off - I assumed it was just a roll up but after smelling the smoke out in the back garden this morning I now suspect otherwise! He is extremely scatty, presumably because he's perma-stoned, and regularly does things like leave keys in the front door or forget stuff and come speeding back down the road to grab what he's left at home.

Would you anonymously report him for drug driving? Its been a while (2 decades at least) since I smoked weed but personally I wouldn't have trusted myself to drive stoned!!

100%, and let the school know if a young child goes there.

thursdaymurderclub · 19/09/2024 13:36

by all means report him.. but make sure you have all the details first, so his name, his address and the reg numbers of all vehicles he drives. however.. do not expect much to be done about it. The police simply do not have the resources to sit at the end of your street waiting for him to come out and get into his car.

what will more than likely happen is; an intel marker will be placed on his car and if during the course of the day a police car spots it, they may or may not pull it over depending on their committements for that day.

I know his first name, obviously I know his address as it's next door to me, and I can see his reg plate when he gets back. Not sure about last name though...

100% report him - I'm not opposed to a smoke but under no circumstance's would I EVER get behind a wheel, especially with a young child in the car.

You need to report this for that poor Childs sake - clearly neither her mother or father care about her safety so someone needs to!

OccasionalHope · 19/09/2024 13:42

Yes and I wouldn't bother with anonymity.

Suntree32 · 19/09/2024 13:43

Absolutely, without a second thought.

Yes and I wouldn't bother with anonymity.

Well I have to live next door to them, so I'm only prepared to do it anonymously.

Absolutely I would. Same with a drink driver. Or someone texting.

Could you look yourself in the mirror if you found out he had killed others in a car accident due to being drugged? Because it will happen one day.

Newterm · 19/09/2024 14:04

Yes of course report. Same as drink driving

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 19/09/2024 14:17

Absolutely and I wouldn’t keep it anonymous either - ndn or not!

MsPavlichenko · 19/09/2024 14:21

Yes, it would be negligent not to. Even a phone call/visit asking him about it might be enough to stop him smoking before driving.

IsThisATrickQuestion · 19/09/2024 14:24

This calls for a 'Fuck, yes'.

usernother · 19/09/2024 14:26

Yes. Without a doubt.

MissyB1 · 19/09/2024 14:31

Yes because I would report someone I know if they were reguarly drinking alcohol before driving. Drug driving is as dangerous as drink driving.

TeabySea · 19/09/2024 14:33

Not only would I report to the police, but works also report to the school safeguarding team.

Planits · 19/09/2024 14:34

Your best bet is to report it as it’s happening.

Meadowfinch · 19/09/2024 14:35

Yes, in a heart beat. And emphasise that he has a very small child on board.

2024cando1 · 19/09/2024 14:35

Yes definitely, he is putting others including his child in danger. Does your local police force have a drink/drug drive hotline for anonymous reporting? I know ours does but not sure if all forces do.

Mischance · 19/09/2024 14:35

Definitely do it.

3peassuit · 19/09/2024 14:35

I’d report as soon as I became aware of it.

crumblingschools · 19/09/2024 14:36

Same as @TeabySea

ZoeCM · 19/09/2024 14:40

Of course. It's no different from drink-driving.

rainbowstardrops · 19/09/2024 14:46

Yes, I would report.

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 19/09/2024 14:51

Of course- as soon as I saw him
leave and head to work.

Dunkler · 19/09/2024 14:54
