Would you anonymously report someone who drives whilst stoned?

New neighbours moved in fairly recently. They seem nice and friendly, a couple with a young child. The dad smokes weed like there's no tomorrow, he's got a gazebo with a patio heater where he sits smoking whilst the mum puts the little one to bed every evening. I'm not bothered what he does in his own garden so I've just said nothing, but I've now realised he is also having a morning spliff with his coffee out there, then getting in the car to drive the little one to nursery and go to work. On the days he isn't doing nursery drop off I've seen him get into his car smoking as he drives off - I assumed it was just a roll up but after smelling the smoke out in the back garden this morning I now suspect otherwise! He is extremely scatty, presumably because he's perma-stoned, and regularly does things like leave keys in the front door or forget stuff and come speeding back down the road to grab what he's left at home.

Would you anonymously report him for drug driving? Its been a while (2 decades at least) since I smoked weed but personally I wouldn't have trusted myself to drive stoned!!

Nobody likes a grass. Theres a joke in there somewhere.

Seriously?
People dislike an idiot who puts people - including his own child - at risk with his drug driving far more!

Yes

muddyford · 19/09/2024 14:59

Yes, I would.

I'm scatty and leave my keys in the front door without weed🤪 can't imagine how bad I would be smoking weed🤣

Seriously though report away. What a danger he is.

Well I have to live next door to them, so I'm only prepared to do it anonymously.

That’s not unreasonable, unless you can give your details to the police so the6 know you’re trustworthy as an witness, and and ask them to keep it from the neighbour.

OpalSquid · 19/09/2024 19:44

I would and I have and not anonymously.
It needs to be cracked down on - it is every 10 cars or so round here go past stinking of it.
I also report the fools who think driving at 50+ miles an hour on residential roads often in the middle of the road is ok.
In reality nothing will change until we get the police back on the road pulling people over.
When was the last time you saw the police stop a driver - when I was younger a driver getting a ‘producer’ wasn’t an unusual thing.
For those who don’t know, it meant you had to attend the police station to produce your documents within a given time.
This was the 90s

School will be aware the child lives with an addict, as much as he thinks he’s being canny by smoking outside, the poor child will reek. They should know she’s being driven by an adult under the influence though, ask to pass the info onto the safeguarding officer if you know what school she’s at.

I once reported someone who drove home pissed( from work) and the police drove to her house to intercept her. She was a nurse ffs.

Whether they'd do this in a non work situation for weed I don't know

Paisleydad · 19/09/2024 21:12

Yes. And anyone who denies risks to others and to their own mental health is deluding themselves. I've worked in the field too long and seen too much damage to say otherwise.

The supply chain can be vicious. Smoke and you are supporting abuse and / or risking your own MH. Simple.
