Perhaps the Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire needs his freebies because MPs aren’t paid enough. Or perhaps he’s just the knight commander of the most astonishing hypocrisy.

They're declared, it's not tax payer money. Lord Alli is a very long standing Labour donor. It's a MSM storm in a tea cup.

MabelMaybe · 19/09/2024 13:19

Has he declared a duck house or heating for horse stables? If not, there's some way to go yet.

TealTraybake · 19/09/2024 13:15

And they are putting VAT on education.

Good. And there are 432 threads on that.

“If I don’t accept a gift of hospitality, I can’t go to a game. You could say: ‘Well, bad luck.’ That’s why gifts have to be registered. But, you know, never going to an Arsenal game again because I can’t accept hospitality is pushing it a bit far.”

I think the truth is pretty meaty.

And hospitality that costs anyone else £8,750.00+ per box, per game, apparently. But we mustn't begrudge him his footie, you see?
Maybe he could keep all the programs from the games and dish them out to some pensioners who find themselves only just over the WFA threshold and they can burn them to keep warm.

Really, why is a Personal Shopper for his wife better, or more morally acceptable to you, than a Duck House?

Once again,

"Keir Starmer is alleged to have broken parliamentary rules by failing to declare donations of clothing for his wife from the Labour donor Waheed Alli"

So, no, not declared. That's why the 'storm in a teacup' is in the MSM.

I am seeing a lot of cognitive dissonance today among staunch Labour supporters.

Is no one allowed to say anything against Keir or Labour in general without a 'but what about the Tories' popping up. So boring and happens on every thread at the slightest hint of Labour criticism.

Wait until the sickening budget he is going to inflict on us in October. Even his diehard supporters won't be able to defend him then....

Saschka · 19/09/2024 13:11

I don’t think Angela Rayner would either.

I doubt that’s true. She took a nice holiday to New York from lord Ali over new years. I don’t see any evidence she has any principles

They’ll still try. It will all be someone else’s fault

luckylavender · 19/09/2024 13:31

@@TheCrenchinglyMcQuaffenBrothers - I think, and I may be wrong, that you're missing the bit about him checking with his officials if he needed to declare them. And that's how it came to light.

LlynTegid · 19/09/2024 13:32

I'd guess the box at the Emirates Stadium, partly for security reasons, could be over 10% of the total.

I agree about judging the budget. It may not be as sickening as some fear.

Bayern · 19/09/2024 13:33

Not a Labour voter.
What also needs to be considered is that those making gifts will have seen the writing on the wall for the previous government and been more generous to him, to woo him.
I would also be pretty confident that there are many MPs who will have been forgetful with their declarations. And/or are no longer MPs, so they are conveniently missing.

She's another greedy cow cadging freebies...they are all dirty freeloaders with their snouts firmly stuck in taxpayer money. Greedy thieving cunts

Newterm · 19/09/2024 13:37

logically it would be Starmer who got the most gifts, because we all knew he would be the next PM, therefore he was the most worth sucking up to. Makes sense

Here we are. Top of the pops in the 2019 government....

I hope the ‘hotly denied on mumsnet’ phrase “Champagne Socialist” makes sense now

He’s such a bloody hypocrite. Giant. Huge. Embarrassingly.

Its hard to come to terms with the Mr Harmless Nice Guy being a cunt, but he objectively is

hamstersarse · 19/09/2024 13:44

I think the budget will be a horror story but all those Labour voters who declared on here that they will be happy to pay more tax will be chuffed to bits

<Matt Goodwin did a survey to see what people meant by ‘happy to pay more tax’ and when quantified they meant £10 a month>

Nothing is being stolen, it's being means tested, do you think millionaires should get it?? honestly

Kelly51 · 19/09/2024 13:46

@TealTraybake
Vat on private education, boohoo

DogInATent · 19/09/2024 13:47

Boris Johnson too £50k from a single donor towards the gold wallpaper refurbishment of the No.11 flat. That was early 2020, so less than five years ago.

The only reason that Starmer tops the list is because so many of the previous government no longer hold seats in Parliament and the data source used in the article is limited to only sitting MPs. It's misleading and disingenuous. But they can safely really on much of the public being to stupid to notice (as evidenced in this thread).

I don't particularly agree with Starmer, but gaslighting the public with biased data should be called out whenever it happens. @TealTraybake are you someone that's an accidental victim of bad data, or one of the gaslighters?

Yes maybe those who are so keen can be targeted, that would be good.

SweetSakura · 19/09/2024 13:54

I think it's indefensible and hugely embarrassing. I don't think I ever thought Keir was amazing but I did want labour to bring fresh change and this is just crashingly bad. There's no excuse for it. I might have understood if he and his wife had very difficult financial circumstances but they are very comfortably off and there's no justification for what they did. If I am silent, it is just a somewhat astonished silence

nearlylovemyusername · 19/09/2024 13:57

What is even more exciting is that two months ago it was £76k of freebies.
Keir Starmer accepted £76,000 of freebies including tickets to over 20 football games (ft.com)

So two annual state pension worth of freebies in two months.
He's really into getting job done.
