Sir Keir Starmer declares gifts and freebies totalling more than £100,000 - the highest of any MP

Perhaps the Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire needs his freebies because MPs aren’t paid enough. Or perhaps he’s just the knight commander of the most astonishing hypocrisy.

Pigs in the trough, as per usual

Proudofeveryone · 18/09/2024 22:51

@ToBeOrNotToBee you took the words out of my mouth.

MyCatHatesSandals · 19/09/2024 12:59

The silence on Mumsnet is deafening.

SeatonCarew · 19/09/2024 13:02

Dreadful greedy man, who steals the winter fuel allowance from pensioners while feathering his own nest and protecting his pension. He has no morals and no shame.

goestheweasel · 19/09/2024 13:02

I find it quite funny that the right are desperately trying to push this as "shocking" news because it's all they've got, but seem to have forgotten we've spent 10+ years of the Tories handing literally millions to their buddies, literally breaking the law at times, and you want us to be upset over £100,000? Or £5000 worth of dresses? I'm afraid I'm a little bit desensitised as to what shocks me after the last decade plus.

SoupDragon · 19/09/2024 13:04

You don't think it's shocking?

it's possible to be shocked about more than one thing at a time.

They are pretty much all as bad as each other.

KeepinOn · 19/09/2024 13:04

I'm astonished at anyone who believes any politian of any stripe is going to be civically minded instead of cravenly selfish. Left wing, right wing, same bird.

cavepainter · 19/09/2024 13:06

The whole point is he stood for change. The only change seems to be in the colour of the ties.

Two wrongs and all that, @goestheweasel . Keir also positioned himself as the leader that would put an end to the sleaze. It appears, however, that not much has changed.

goestheweasel · 19/09/2024 13:09

No I don't find it shocking, they're gifts, they've been declared, we KNOW this happens, at this point if a politician is following the law they're doing better than the last lot. I simply don't care and have more important things to worry about, so it gets no more than an eye roll from me. Only answering due to someone saying the silence was deafening, the truth is this just isn't very meaty by comparison.

Saschka · 19/09/2024 13:11

@goestheweasel it’s not “shocking”, but as a Labour voter (far to the left of Starmer) I’m not impressed honestly. And wouldn’t be regardless of who was doing it. The optics are fucking awful.

Accommodation and football hospitality I can sort of see depending on context (he ought to be contributing to the football tickets, but if he already has a season ticket and is just being upgraded to a box for security reasons I wouldn’t have an issue with that). But the glasses? Nobody needs somebody else to pay for their glasses. And you know very well that Jezza and Diane Abbott would never have done this.

I don’t think Angela Rayner would either.

He's a sleazy opportunistic greedy cunt. His wife is no better. Shameless freeloaders trying to get their hands on whatever they can.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 19/09/2024 13:12

Is no one allowed to say anything against Keir or Labour in general without a 'but what about the Tories' popping up. So boring and happens on every thread at the slightest hint of Labour criticism.

“If I don’t accept a gift of hospitality, I can’t go to a game. You could say: ‘Well, bad luck.’ That’s why gifts have to be registered. But, you know, never going to an Arsenal game again because I can’t accept hospitality is pushing it a bit far.”

I think the truth is pretty meaty.

Animal Farm

Starmer is one of the pigs living in luxury whilst the other animals are enslaved, starved and even killed.

Wait until the autumn budget to find out just how much he despises the working class yet needs our money to keep the trough stuffed.

You don't think the unfettered access, to the HOP, to a 'donor' that's bunged him clothes, glasses, and accommodation freebies is shocking?
Mkay.
(You also missed the fact that the whole reason is in the new is precisely because he didn't declare his wife's frocks...)

I genuinely thought they were going to be different, but different snouts, same trough. Man of the people, my arse.

Crunchymum · 19/09/2024 13:18

Read this response from him

saying that because of security reasons: "If I don't accept a gift of hospitality, I can't go to a game."

Boo fucking hoo. £40k so he can go and watch football.

It's just all so disappointing.
