So for tv show:

When the Street Lights Go On.
Really good and equally as sad.

Films …. Maybe Creep 2004, I just rewatched it all these years later. But maybe it’s not as obscure as I think.

Ladies of London. A very upper crust Real Housewives of type series, featuring American women and some British socialites vaguely connected to the aristocracy.

That was a very poor relatiom to the housewives franchise, I still follow a couple of them on Instagram

Sex, Chips & Rock n' Roll 6 part series from 1999. I remember loving it at the time but can't remember a great deal about it now.

And another...
Dear Frankie... About a little deaf boy.... Gérard Butler before he was famous... A truly beautiful film!!

The Tomorrow People

The 70s children's programme? We all watched that when there were only 3 channels to choose from 😁

CrispAppleStrudels · 17/09/2024 21:10

Oh also, just thought about a film called The Fall with Lee Pace. So offbeat. Someone gave me the DVD and I must have watched it about 100 times when I was living overseas before the days of streaming / vpns to access iplayer 🤣

@RenoDakota I haven't seen it but the slow movement of Mozart's piano concerto 21 is often referred to as the theme from Elvira Madigan.

I love Saved! (Jena Malone, Macaulay Culkin). Pregnant teenager at a very Christian high school.

Goodbye Lenin - siblings in East Germany need to hide the fall of the Berlin Wall from their ill and very Communist mother. Really funny but also moving in places.

I nearly wrote Goodbye Lenin. It's a very good film, touching and funny.

AllMyExesWearRolexes · 17/09/2024 21:14

Tales of the Gold Monkey, BBC in the 70s, kind of proto Indiana Jones in the Pacific.

RainBow725 · 17/09/2024 21:15

I loved some of these. Hacks, Reaoer and Third Watch. I think there was a bit of a cross over of cast with ER and Third Watch - in ER when Chloe went missing?

Mine are also Sirens on Channel 4 with Richard Madden about the emergency services. Dark comedy very good but only one season. Also Southland - American police drama which was brilliant. Kept getting cancelled and picked up by different networks. I think 3 seasons in the end. I recently watched it again on Amazon Freevee but I think it's gone again now.

Bojack is amazing. I thought it was quite well known but maybe not, think some people get put off with it being a cartoon about a horse.

I have never met anyone other than dh who has seen it! And it's where my username comes from: the American Diane put on her Starbucks name badge!

Sunflowersinthewind · 17/09/2024 21:16

Flight of Dragons. Animated film from the 80s. Shaped my whole childhood!

I was tiny when I watched this (much older siblings) and LOVED it. So wanted to be psychic just like them 😆
Never found anyone who remembers them before

We also still say "Tuesday!" in Vince's voice on a regular basis. And "Carbonara!"

Thank you, we shall henceforth add 'carbonara' to our Vincey lexicon!

Also - why was Garth Marenghi's Darkplace not a massive success?! ADORE it! 'Author. Dreamweaver. Visionary. Plus actor.'

Saschka · 17/09/2024 21:19

Continuum - Canadian time-traveller sci fi. Ought to be far better known than it is - lots of conflicting interests but no actual baddies, every character is very complex and very believably the hero in their own mind.

Also Sarah Connor Chronicles - it isn’t exactly unknown but it’s hugely underrated. Stars Lena Headey, so I thought after GOT people might reassess it, but nope.

I thought it was a huge success! Everyone I knew watched it at the time.

Doh! I didn't get it! Must go back and watch the whole series again... 😄

Thank you. I only realised tonight that it was Mozart as googled it just before reading your reply!

I'm glad to hear that - and I see it won a Perrier - I'd had the impression that it hadn't done so well... but maybe I was mixing with the wrong people! 😄

the80sweregreat · 17/09/2024 21:24

My eldest was obsessed with ' scrubs' but not many people have heard it of it.
There was a 70s children's programme called ' changes' or something and it was quite scary for a kids bbc programme.

Latenightreader · 17/09/2024 21:25

Professor Poopsnaggle's Steam Zepplin. Australian series from the 80s with the all time greatest theme tune. No one remembered it, so it was one of the first things I searched for when I discovered the internet.
