So for tv show:

When the Street Lights Go On.
Really good and equally as sad.

Films …. Maybe Creep 2004, I just rewatched it all these years later. But maybe it’s not as obscure as I think.

Have linked above/below.
Its on Amazon.

I was assuming @Aurora2023 had discounted that one already as it's pretty expensive, or maybe I'm just too mean to pay £20 😁

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 18/09/2024 19:36

@RichardMarxisinnocent yes! You're right, it was a ferry and the first series (I think there were three) went from Gothenburg to Amsterdam to Felixstowe. I had letters read out on Points of View about it .... I absolutely loved it. A few years ago I found some early episodes on YouTube so other people watched it, despite all the criticism it received.

Fescue · 18/09/2024 20:32

Plenty

Peoplerepublicocs · 18/09/2024 20:37

Rescue me

Aurora2023 · 18/09/2024 20:38

@DreamW3aver I feel like I may have looked on Amazon before, but indeed I am also too mean to spend £20 (plus a potential purchase of a DVD machine for this only purpose) so I'll check out series 1 on the old YouTube and see if it still holds my heart before committing further !

Rescue me

Denis Leary?

Loved that!

And the theme song!

GrouchyKiwi · 17/09/2024 19:47

I could cheat and name some Kiwi ones. Grin

But I'll go with Better Off Ted (American TV series).

I suspect you may be too young ro Remeber 'Beauty and the Beast' panel show with Selwyn Toogood??
Then there was 'Close to Home'
John Rowles (singer)
I loved NZ. Sadly, did not stay!

echt · 18/09/2024 21:43

Ten Town, an Australian children's series I remember seeing in the UK as a child. Original title was The Terrific Adventures of the Terrible Ten.

Unsurprisingly, a hate figure was red-haired lad called Freckles O'Foot.

Peoplerepublicocs · 18/09/2024 22:11

@diddl yes! I loved it but nobody I know has ever heard of it. It was really good 😁

I might have to try to find some YouTube videos!

RichardMarxisinnocent · 18/09/2024 22:43

Doea anyone remember a children's drama, set in New Zealand, called Children of Fire Mountain? I've found the odd mention of it online, but never met anyone who remembers watching it.

LindorDoubleChoc · 17/09/2024 19:52

Stella Street (British TV series).

I have this on dvd lol!

TheHorneSection · 18/09/2024 22:47

Something called Finney, about Newcastle gangster nearly 30 years ago.

I don’t remember a thing about what it was about, but I do remember it was the moment I decided that David Morrissey was one of the sexiest men to ever walk this earth, and have yet to be abused if this notion.

Latenightreader · 17/09/2024 21:20

I have the soundtrack! I really loved this series. I still sing their hit song.

Someone has uploaded it to Youtube and I'm rewatching it, it's as brilliant as I remember it being!

Catofthesouth · 18/09/2024 23:48

give 15 Storeys High and Harold and Maude a watch. My top tips x

Catofthesouth · 18/09/2024 23:50

Ginger Snaps is a full on feminist horror, great fun if you’re not averse to blood

Carouselfish · 19/09/2024 00:47

@bbirthdaymom I've seen and lovr Paulie. Made me want a parrot. Always cry at the end!

Carouselfish · 19/09/2024 00:49

There is no way anyone has seen, nor should they see, Tomkat - Dangerous Desires.

Richard Greico gets his DNA mixed with a cat. Utters some hilarious lines, does some atrocious 'ballet' to electronica and murders a few people while craving milk and fish.

Carouselfish · 19/09/2024 00:51

@FoxtrotOscarKindaDay I've seen Blood Ties, that's a good one!

ThePrologue · 19/09/2024 04:07

Jingleballs2 · 17/09/2024 22:18

Gomorra, it's Italian with subtitles but an amazing gritty mafia series

Kingdom, on Netflix about MMA. Again pretty gritty American series about MMA fighters and their personaly lives

Gommora is totally amazing!

ThePrologue · 19/09/2024 04:11

Marianne Dreams (book) was made into the tv series escape into the night in 1972.
Quite dark, but brilliant

IhateHPSDeaneCnt · 19/09/2024 06:06

@DisneyHag I remember that (off to find if On Demand). @Compash that sounds like my sort of film - thanks! My contribution is the "Gods must be Crazy". A lazy pilot of a small plane chucks a Coke bottle out of window over the Kalahari desert where it's found, intact, by a small tribe. Initially, they find they can utilise it as a tool for various things but it causes dissension in the community and never ever previous concepts of individual ownership. Eventually, one member of the tribe has enough and sets off to get rid of it by chucking if off the end of the world. I don't remember it as being condescending but it must be at least 30 years ago!

Yes, we obviously watched the same programmes! I loved this - there was Guide Anna (?) and Te Pouranui - spelled phonetically, can't recall but I remember trying to say them with a NZ accent. I recall being a bridesmaid in 1981 and asking for my hair to be like Sarah Jane's ....

I listed The God's Must Be Crazy way upthread. So I guess at least two of us have heard of it! It does have some very problematic attitudes to race in it, both the guerilla and the bush people. It was made in apartheid South Africa, and it shows.

I loved that show!

Because of this thread I looked it up it’s on prime video!
