Tiny disappointments in life

Dh has just put on an episode of University Challenge. It disappoints me every time that the teams aren't actually sitting one on top of the other.

Cadbury Castle. Not a chocolate castle, or even a stone castle!

That Waitrose stopped doing their profiteroles in chocolate. They came in a deep plastic bowl and were kept on the fridge section, lots of lovely chocolate sauce and a ton of profiteroles. They disappeared around the time the sugar tax thing was enforced. They were £4.99 and worth every penny.

I still check Waitroses when I see them incase they have old stock they've found and are selling them, despite it being about 5 years ago since I last saw them

And Cheese snaps and Salt and Vinegar super crunchies (both crisps)

There's a lot of food I miss

Aren't these them? https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/waitrose-12-belgian-chocolate-profiteroles/765215-373537-373538 I think I've had them quite recently?

Every time I open a McDonald's box and see the tragic pathetic version of the advertised photo.
Only buy one about once a year.
Same disappointment each time.

Yes, and so bloody anaemic looking - the fries and soggy bun. I recently had pale, soggy chicken batter in KFC after craving it and actually it was so disappointing it’s been a good thing as I don’t think I’ll have another for another ten years.

FizzingAda · 14/09/2024 09:11

Anyone remember Jacob’s potato puffs? Best crispy snack ever, and they stopped making them years ago. A few years ago there was a big petition to bring them back, but apparently they don't have the special machinery now. I'm quite basic person when it comes to crisps, strictly a Walkers cheese and onion, and find most most modern crisps disappointing. But if potato puffs came back, oh bliss.

Turkish Delight: Edmund (the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe) was so desperate to eat it that he sold his brother and sisters to the White Witch: I too was very disappointed when I sampled some.

The "Fry's Turkish Delight" bar was revolting, But the sort we were given in a posh hotel in Istanbul was fabulous.

Unfortunately it’s telling that so many of the disappointments in my life are to do with food. But here’s another one: cheesecake!

It looks so lovely but is usually just creamy nothingness or just tastes of the fruit on top of it (why fruit? Why?) I was brought up on home-baked tangy cheesecake made with sour cream and curd cheese and have never found anything to match it. New York style cheesecake is the best option I’ve found but is still much too bland.

Similar, but the plastic bowl was filled with chocolate sauce

Saying that I might go today and get some for research purposes

Thank you!!!!

suburburban · 14/09/2024 10:08

Cappuccino vienetta was another one

suburburban · 14/09/2024 10:08

I mean being discontinued

Red velvet cake is the most aesthetically pleasing biggesr disappointment there is.

This! The amount of times my kids have begged for the slice of red velvet in a café, because it looks so delicious, take one bite and announce they're full (of disappointment no doubt) and I then have to begrudgingly shovel, the dry, fucking tasteless red shite down my throat as I don't want to see it go to waste. It tastes like what It looks so lovely, but always tastes like I can only imagine cooked playdoh tastes like.

Maltesers, they used to be malty, crunchy and chocolaty, now they dissolve into a tasteless lump. I have tried them a few times thinking it must have been an odd packet but no, they really are disappointing.

I still love Maltesers but they're bewildering high in calories. They weigh nothing but you can inhale 600 calories worth in the time it takes to enjoy a mid morning brew. Gutting.

TigerRag · 14/09/2024 11:23

Buying something that sounds so tasty only for it to be a migraine trigger

xxSideshowAuntSallyxx · 14/09/2024 11:32

Milky Way is not the sweet you can eat between meals without ruining your appetite. It's the same amount of calories as every other bar of chocolate.

then maybe it's good I no longer buy them, 😀

Haha like Blankety Blank!

Oh! I thought they were in Blankety Blank! How dim am I? (Please don’t answer that!)

Eating Crusts as a child never gave me curly hair… thanks Nana.

I have curly hair and my nephew wouldn't eat crusts as he didn't want to end up with hair like me 😆

TeaHagTeaBag · 12/09/2024 20:28

And no one is ever thrown to the lions.

Now that would have been worth watching.
Zlisters would probably still sign up for a bit of that.

Tony’s Chocolonely.

(I am partial to some flavours but their descriptions are like something written by Willy Wonka and I often find myself wondering where certain ingredients/flavours listed are.)

Oh nooo....I’m never disappointed by TC. The hugely expensive artisan chocolates I treated myself to last Christmas were a different story. Who writes those reviews?

Mummadeze · 14/09/2024 21:14

That my Iceland stopped selling the sweet chilli salmon that I used to have for lunch nearly every single day! I still go in and look for it even though I know it’s not going to be there. Just so annoying.

bringincrazyback · 14/09/2024 22:30

The fact that Bombay Sapphire isn't actually blue.

Contraversialcate · 14/09/2024 23:23

That Creme egg Easter eggs were hollow. Still remember the childhood disappointment at discovering this one Easter

I used to get this said to me as a child ... I had very curly hair when I was young and longed for it to be ruler straight! Amazing the way adults would just parrot it anyway.

GrandTheftWalrus · 14/09/2024 23:31

I was disappointed when I first went to Spain as child that there wasn't parrots flying about and tumbleweeds.

However there are parrots flying about lanzarote.

M&S have stopped doing vine leaves as part of their tapas/mezze/anti-pasti range. I was very sad about that.

The Greek tinned ones you can get in some supermarkets are better than the M&S ones IMO. A lot of Greek tavernas use tinned ones…

coldcallerbaiter · 15/09/2024 08:20

Since I was a child I eat a crunchie bar by biting the thin chocolate off with my teeth on ALL sides, once I have the honeycomb I then eat that.
If any of it doesn’t go to plan, like the bar breaks or the chocolate does not come off a side cleanly- Then I have failed. I have done it in public, ppl watching me on the tube etc but I cannot eat it any other way.
