What do you do with clothes that have been worn once but aren't dirty/can be worn again?

I often don't wash items after a single wear as I'm not an overly sweaty person, so keep things aside to wear again (unless I spill food down it or excessive exercise in it etc)

It feels totally wrong to put it back in the wardrobe (not like it would 'contaminate' other clothes but just feels off to me!) and washing it every time would be a ballache and massively increase how many loads need doing each week.

My system until now has been to fold the item on the chair behind my dressing table, but it always seems to turn into clothing jenga after a few days, as I don't tend to wear an item for a little while after unless I can get away with two totally different occasions.

I'm wondering if there is a better way and genuinely pondering what the rest of the world does! (Also ADHD AF so tendency to over think everything relating to house tidying etc 😅)

This is what the chairdrobe is for.

I wouldn't wear everything once though ans leave it there to cycle round, I'd only have a couple of things out, and if I didn't wear them in a few days I'd either wash or put back in the wardrobe.

CoastalCalm · 12/09/2024 17:52

If I know I’ll wear soon I use a freestanding towel rail thingy and hang them over that but if it was something I rarely wear I’d just put it back in the wardrobe as long as it still smells fresh(ish)

TheFlis · 12/09/2024 17:54

We have a valet stand.

BeaLola · 12/09/2024 17:54

I have a hook on the back of my bedroom door with a hanger and I hang an item /2 on it eg today I wore a dress to work and it's now hanging there - will probably wear it on Sat or Mon and then into wash

BobbyBiscuits · 12/09/2024 17:54

I do have a separate 'area' for stuff that's been worn but still in use. Like trousers. I wear baggy cargos and sweatpants and usually won't wash after one use. T shirts or vests have to be washed as I'm very sweaty armpit wise! Yuck. So tops only get one wearing, except some hoodies or big cardigans.
So they wouldn't be back in the closet with the unworn things.

Yep, that’s pretty much what I do too. I often put things back on a hanger on the wardrobe door knob overnight and then back in the wardrobe the next day. Other things go over the bedroom chair.

https://www.clotheshorsecompany.co.uk/product/towel-ladder-straight/www.clotheshorsecompany.co.uk/product/towel-ladder-straight/I bought a clothes ladder , loads on line at various prices, mine was from the Clothes Horse Company, but cheaper ones are available. Takes up a tiny amount of room, looks good, easy to see what is on there rather than a chair robe heap.

EdithStourton · 12/09/2024 17:57

I have a spare drawer. They go in there.
Or on the chair.

PivotPivotmakingmargaritas · 12/09/2024 17:57

I hang them back in my wardrobe inside out as a signal to myself that it has been worn once already and next time I need to wear it , it needs to go in the wash.

If I had a chairdrobe it would become a chair mountain very quickly

DrRiverSong · 12/09/2024 17:58

This is what THE PILE (™️). As long as THE PILE is nicely folded then IT’LL BE REET ©️

Spomb · 12/09/2024 17:59

If it’s clean enough for me to wear, it’s clean enough to go back in the wardrobe!

I used to put it on a chair and then it would pile up and I’d end up washing it all again anyway.

HeidiWhole · 12/09/2024 17:59

Chair, top of chest of drawers, ironing board (don't ask), back of door, bathroom radiator.
Also ADHD 😐

I've been there! Trying to create a routine so that I can keep on top of it all better which is getting there but still needs improvement!

I found that actually being firm with myself about decluttering so I didn't have mountains of clothing really helped. I had a real issue with impulse buying on vinted for a while 🤦🏼‍♀️

This is actually very clever!

Mostly put them on the chair - but I am quite good at then using clothes from the chair so it doesn't start to form a huge pile.

Sometimes with something like a dress I've worn for 'an occasion' that I'm not likely to be wearing to the supermarket or round the house, I tend to hang it on a hanger in front of the wardrobe door, then decide in a couple of days if it is okay to return to the wardrobe or it it could do with a wash.

Bluebellsinthewind · 12/09/2024 18:04

I fling them over my chair, window is open most days so they get a good airing 🤣

That's a good idea! My chairdrobe is always getting out of control but I worry that if I hang things back up I'll forget they've already been worn once. Think I might start doing this.

This is my problem. Once it goes on the chair and is covered by other stuff I then forget it's even there, and so on, and the pile gets taller and topples over and then it all gets cat haired and ends up in the wash anyway.

I store them in the bath. Otherwise I forget what's clean or semi-worn.

HoppityBun · 12/09/2024 18:07

I’m so pleased I’m not the only one. No way are they going back in the wardrobe. I have an old fashioned bed with a high headboard and footboard so they’re draped over the end of that.

seenomore1579 · 12/09/2024 18:10

Dresses go back in the wardrobe, tops go on the stool/floor under the vanity. If the pile gets a bit big, I just chuck it all in the laundry bin because I cba to go through it all.
Every so often I go through the dresses in my wardrobe and give them a sniff test to see which ones need a wash.
That's my ADHD strategy.

Arlanymor · 12/09/2024 18:11

Another inside outer here and they go to the right hand side of my wardrobe, away from the other clothes, so I know to look there first.

Love51 · 12/09/2024 18:12

Hang on the outside of the wardrobe or on the hooks on the back of the door.

FrostyFlo · 12/09/2024 18:15

Chair-robe / occasionally becomes floor-robe to my embarrassment .
Wardrobes are for clothes you dont wear , or can't fit into !

SleepGoalsJumped · 12/09/2024 18:16

I used to have a chairdrobe but it got really out of control and needed serious excavation to find a particular article that was worn once 3 months ago.

I have installed some nice wall hooks on the wall next to the wardrobe and I hang worn-once things there. Also cardigans etc which can be worn many times before washing. When I get dressed if I'm not too bothered what I wear that day I will check the hooks and pick something from there to wear, and if it came from the hooks in the morning it goes into the laundry that evening so they only get worn twice.
