What do you do with clothes that have been worn once but aren't dirty/can be worn again?

I often don't wash items after a single wear as I'm not an overly sweaty person, so keep things aside to wear again (unless I spill food down it or excessive exercise in it etc)

It feels totally wrong to put it back in the wardrobe (not like it would 'contaminate' other clothes but just feels off to me!) and washing it every time would be a ballache and massively increase how many loads need doing each week.

My system until now has been to fold the item on the chair behind my dressing table, but it always seems to turn into clothing jenga after a few days, as I don't tend to wear an item for a little while after unless I can get away with two totally different occasions.

I'm wondering if there is a better way and genuinely pondering what the rest of the world does! (Also ADHD AF so tendency to over think everything relating to house tidying etc 😅)

I have a space saver hangar like this. It keeps things separate and can stay there hidden as I often won't rewear for a few days. Also ideal for days where I end up in 3 different outfits as my temperature fluctuates!

I have a short extra clothes rack outside of my wardrobe which can hold 8 cloth hangers with things waiting for their next use. I wouldn't wear a t-shirt twice, so it is mostly trousers and cardigans and they can live there as long as is useful.

No more clothing jenga.

henlake7 · 12/09/2024 20:35

All my clothes are in my spare bedroom and I have 2 armchairs in there...one has the ironing pile and the other has in use clothes.
For stuff that might wrinkle I have hooks over the door and hang things frontways after I've worn them and backwards after second wear....I try to get three wears out of things!

Something similar to this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hiceeden-Laundry-Mounted-Stainless-Collapsible/dp/B0BF9QRMCC/

Floralspecscase · 12/09/2024 20:39

I usually throw them on the floor, then spend hours running round in circles tearing my hair out because there's nothing to wear in the morning, then rifle through the piles on the floor, find them and put them on.

redtrain123 · 12/09/2024 20:41

Chair for me.

Asheville · 12/09/2024 20:42

If it’s clean enough to wear it’s clean enough to go back in the wardrobe/drawer/wherever!

What the actual fuck?

Put It Back In The Wardrobe You Absolute Loons.

Me too....
If it's dirty washing basket.
Everything else tidy and hanging in the wardrobe.

Lostinbrum · 12/09/2024 21:15

T shirts usually after one wash unless I've only had it on an hour or two after a shower etc. Everything else goes on the floordrobe

IrisApfel · 12/09/2024 21:44

I struggled with this for years, now I have a dedicated section in the wardrobe.

Doggymummar · 12/09/2024 21:46

I hang mine on. The line or tumble dry on refresh , fabreze and put in wardrobe

MarvellousMable · 12/09/2024 21:47

Crikey I must be feral. If they don’t stink I just put them back on the hanger or in the drawer they were on when proper clean!

Traceysgoingtobelivid · 12/09/2024 21:54

I’ve got a tall linen basket that they go in so my rooms is always tidy, cannot stand piles of clothes everywhere, a bedroom should be relaxing not resemble a jumble sale.

thirdistheonewiththehairychest · 12/09/2024 22:34

I hang it back up but put the hanger the wrong way round on the rail so that next time I wear it I know it's the second outing and will need a wash after.

That’s what I do, then hang back in the wardrobe too. Thank goodness someone else is ‘normal’ 😅

Well, not everyone will have seen that (I hadn't), and it's getting plenty of replies, so does it really matter?

Allthehorsesintheworld · 12/09/2024 22:50

I turn it inside out and hang in my walk in wardrobe. There’s enough air circulating , it’s not going to contaminate anything.
Only time I’d wash something I’ve worn once is if I’ve been on public transport.

echt · 12/09/2024 22:53

I have a walk-in wardrobe with hooks on the shelves. I hang worn but not dirty clothes on them inside out to air, no chance I'm continually washing woollen knits and jeans after every wear.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 12/09/2024 23:01

I wash them.

It takes far too long to deal with a clothes moth infestation and it only takes one of the fuckers being brought in sideeyes DP and his charity shopping to have them merrily fluttering around making babies for months.

Well it certainly wasn't me - so isn't a repeat thread as I never saw that one and was talking/asking about my own experience.

I think this may be part of my concern around putting worn clothes back in there. Not that I'm sure that matters!

I used to have a chairdrobe but it got really out of control and needed serious excavation to find a particular article that was worn once 3 months ago.

I have installed some nice wall hooks on the wall next to the wardrobe and I hang worn-once things there. Also cardigans etc which can be worn many times before washing. When I get dressed if I'm not too bothered what I wear that day I will check the hooks and pick something from there to wear, and if it came from the hooks in the morning it goes into the laundry that evening so they only get worn twice.

If you hadn’t said ‘wall next to the wardrobe’ I’d think you were me! My wall hooks are behind the door to the bedroom, so you can’t see them as you look in.

Hanging hooks has solved The Pile issue, and it prompts me to rewear the items.

Keroppi · 13/09/2024 07:34

I usually peg onto washing line to air if it's a dry day then put it back away. If it's rainy I hang it on back of bedroom door on a hanger or leave it on top of the chest of drawers

burnoutbabe · 13/09/2024 08:34

Chair for me but one of the joys of working from home is no one really notices it's the same top for 2-3 days.

Stuff like dress /smart top gets hung up on beck of door to air then returned to wardrobe.

With partner, if he has worn a shirt for a brief online meeting I do encourage that to be hung up at other end of wardrobe as his chair is often full of stuff that could be clean or dirty or once worn which is annoying to me. Like, decide after wearing what its status is and file accordingly!
