What do you do with clothes that have been worn once but aren't dirty/can be worn again?

I often don't wash items after a single wear as I'm not an overly sweaty person, so keep things aside to wear again (unless I spill food down it or excessive exercise in it etc)

It feels totally wrong to put it back in the wardrobe (not like it would 'contaminate' other clothes but just feels off to me!) and washing it every time would be a ballache and massively increase how many loads need doing each week.

My system until now has been to fold the item on the chair behind my dressing table, but it always seems to turn into clothing jenga after a few days, as I don't tend to wear an item for a little while after unless I can get away with two totally different occasions.

I'm wondering if there is a better way and genuinely pondering what the rest of the world does! (Also ADHD AF so tendency to over think everything relating to house tidying etc 😅)

Another inside outer here and they go to the right hand side of my wardrobe, away from the other clothes, so I know to look there first.

I think this is my favourite idea, then I can have a little gap and feel less twitchy about the idea.

Which I know in reality is stupid, because as a previous poster said, if it's clean enough to wear again there's not really any reason why it can't go back in the wardrobe. But it just makes me feel itchy!

Hang on the outside of the wardrobe or on the hooks on the back of the door.

I've tried this too but it still grows into an unwieldy pile for me 😆

I used to have a chairdrobe but it got really out of control and needed serious excavation to find a particular article that was worn once 3 months ago.

I have installed some nice wall hooks on the wall next to the wardrobe and I hang worn-once things there. Also cardigans etc which can be worn many times before washing. When I get dressed if I'm not too bothered what I wear that day I will check the hooks and pick something from there to wear, and if it came from the hooks in the morning it goes into the laundry that evening so they only get worn twice.

I like this idea too. I could probably get some hooks for the wall my wardrobe opens onto. And then if I am adulting enough and wardrobe is tidily closed I will see those things first before opening said wardrobe.

https://www.clotheshorsecompany.co.uk/product/towel-ladder-straight/www.clotheshorsecompany.co.uk/product/towel-ladder-straight/I bought a clothes ladder , loads on line at various prices, mine was from the Clothes Horse Company, but cheaper ones are available. Takes up a tiny amount of room, looks good, easy to see what is on there rather than a chair robe heap.

I don't have space for one of these in the bedroom, but you can get those multi level coat hangers that are a bit laddery, so this could also work as a new strategy.

So many choices!

Really works for me and I don’t like clothes being left out on chairs or draped over things. You could even use different coloured/types of hangers if you wanted. I have rigid wire hangers in rainbow colours and everything that is worn once goes on a red hanger to the right, with that gap between everything else - it honestly works for me and becomes second nature the more you do it.

It is supposed to inspire you to wear those things again rather than getting something else out. Not the next day, the day after. I've no idea where that policy came from! Possibly back in the day when clothes would smell of fag ash (even as a non-smoker).

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 12/09/2024 19:28

Set of coat pegs on the bedroom wall. Use hangers.

HÆLTHEPAIN · 12/09/2024 19:33

I hang them back in the wardrobe but to the left of a specific coat hanger. This means they’re not touching anything clean.

TherealmrsT · 12/09/2024 19:39

After rearranging the wardrobe last year I now have a section (to the right of the dressing gown special hanger) that is just for clothes worn but good to wear again. It's made a big difference to the room to not have the pile out on display and also means things don't get creased so are fit to wear again.

Simonjt · 12/09/2024 19:41

I leave them on the floor in the bathroom, the magic fairy then puts them back in my wardrobe/drawers. The magic fairly puts them in a certain area so I don’t forget they’ve been worn once. I never wear t-shirts, vests or shirts more than once.

rockstarshoes · 12/09/2024 19:56

A3 block coat hanger on the wall next to the wardrobe with jewel coloured welder hangers on it!

I check what's on it before I get dressed to see if there is anything suitable on it!

This is quite recent because I used to throw them over the bannister & it always looked so untidy!

rockstarshoes · 12/09/2024 19:57

Fgs velvet hangers!

DreadPirateRobots · 12/09/2024 20:08

I hang them up to air and then rehang them in the wardrobe.

Reallybadidea · 12/09/2024 20:10

Stuff that needs hanging up goes inside out as others have said. Jeans, jumpers etc that can be folded go in one of these https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/stuk-box-with-compartments-white-90474443/ at the bottom of my wardrobe. When it gets a bit full I either make an effort to wear the stuff in it or chuck it in the wash if I'm unlikely to wear it again imminently.

I really like having them shut away rather than draped around the room indefinitely. Having a finite amount of space also helps them to not accumulate too much.

This is what THE PILE (™️). As long as THE PILE is nicely folded then IT’LL BE REET ©️

Omg, I am afraid to say we’ve been in contravention of your TM in our house for years. My OH detests THE PILE (guilty as charged) 😬

BashfulClam · 12/09/2024 20:12

Spare bed. ADHD too so I overthink this too. I get dressed in the spare room as it’s next to the main bathroom. So I leave worn clothes on the bed there.

LoobyDoop2 · 12/09/2024 20:16

I have hooks on the sides of the wardrobe for this. They go on there to air for a couple of days and then either back in the wardrobe or in the wash if they don’t smell fresh.

IBlameTheDog · 12/09/2024 20:17

I rarely wear things more than twice. After the first time, I hang it in the wardrobe inside out.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 12/09/2024 20:18

I have a hook just inside the door of my walk in wardrobe.

Corksoles · 12/09/2024 20:19

What the actual fuck?

Put It Back In The Wardrobe You Absolute Loons.

saraclara · 12/09/2024 20:20

I hang them up inside out, so that I know only to wear them one more time

ETA that I see I'm not the only one! I allowed myself (for once) to post without reading the thread!

DiscoBeat · 12/09/2024 20:21

If it smells clean and looks clean I put it back in the wardrobe/drawer. If I thought it might 'contaminate' other clean clothes there's no way I'd want to wear it!

Ineedaholidayyyy · 12/09/2024 20:23

Back inside the wardrobe... if its clean enough to wear more than once, then it's clean enough to be hung up like normal.

livelovelough24 · 12/09/2024 20:25

I wear work tops only one time, but everyday stuff for couple of days. So, work tops go to wash, every day stuff over a chair in my bedroom. I do not wash bottoms very often, so they go back in the wardrobe. Dress pants and jackets on the hangers, and jeans folded on the shelf.

Cheesecakelunch · 12/09/2024 20:28

Chair-robe! It's in front of the window which catches the burning afternoon sun so I often hang things over the back of the chair and find the sunlight refreshes a lightly worn item.
