Any Green Wing fans around?

I’ve just been binging the first series. Sue White in the last episode left me hysterical. It’s just all so bonkers! I found a thread on MN from nearly 20 years ago about it, has anyone been on here that long?

Love love love Green Wing and delighted to see the audiable thank you! I used to be in love with Mac but on my recent rewatches I love the change in Guy more and actually think Mac is a bit of a bastard (sorry!)

I think its so bonkers, it hasn't really been as affected by changing cultural standards. The bad stuff is way out beyond the boundary of what would ever have been considered OK in any cultural standards ever.

I don't dare rewatch it because it will highlight quite how shit and 'safe' TV has become.

Perhaps controversial opinion: The black books episodes written by Graham Linehan are funny. The rest, not so much.

Yes! My mind rationalises quite a lot of programmes with the same actors in them as scenarios of what happens to them later.

Jim is clearly what became of his Green Wing character when he retired (and possibly had to join a witness protection programme somewhere along the way).

The sexual harassment was off the scale. I doubt anyone could get away with covering themselves in clay and begging for sex nowadays.

Have you lot seen "Spaced"? I think that might have been early onset "Jim" for Mark Heap.

I think if it was made now the intimacy co-ordinator would be off sick with stress.

We’ve just recently discovered the Audible series. Mark Heap is even more superb in that than he is in the TV show.

Haha... it was SlittySluttySlots, from when Dr Statham is careering round the streets on a mobility scooter, cursing out Joanna after their affair ends! It was said with such venom and made me laugh so hard... but really not appropriate for a parenting website 😄

It does feel weird listening to it rather than watching it, but otherwise remains unchanged.

One of my favourite medical comedies. It was pretty close to how NHS operated at that time. One of my favourite scenes was when the theatre staff had to pick an accent and speak with the accent throughout the procedure.

I remember spending one summer, as a student, on rotation in theatre. There were two regular anaesthetists. One would be doing the Telegraph crossword and discuss the cricket ( the county ground was just up the road and if we finished early the surgeon and anaesthetist would decamp there) through the procedure, the other would spend the whole time grilling his medical students. Our surgeon would quietly take piss out of him without him ever realising.

It was maxfac surgery but if the orthopaedic surgeon had a more interesting case in the next door theatre they would shout through and we could opt to watch them. There were silly rituals, lots of swearing and a lot of education in the dark arts of theatre life.

The nurses were always in charge and could make the life of students miserable if they didn’t like you. Many of our nurses socialised with us so I often found myself with a willing assistant for a clinic if one of the unpopular students was trying to find a nurse. I learned very early on to respect all staff because your life was so much easier if they were on your side.

I remember being in the doctors mess when on of the junior doctors was talking to his dog on the phone. There was always a trolley with piles of sliced bread margarine and jam. The junior doctors lived off jam sandwiches and take away curry’s.
