Today morning during my routine kitchen cleaning I found two maggots under the carpet. I got paranoid and started cleaning the entire kitchen and living room and now nearly a hundred maggots have been found. I cleaned everything and sprinkled salt in the corners I found maggots. What do I do? We have been away for a month for the school holidays. I have checked everything the pantry and other cupboards are clean. Maggots only on the floor. I hate it. Please help pleassseeee

My question is how can I get rid of them permanently? I now have a feeling something is crawling on my body😢. Should I call the peat control?

I think just clean them all up and see if they return. Probably they wont. people don't generally get infested with maggots ?

snowlady4 · 11/09/2024 20:26

Call the experts. They will sort it for you and tell you how it's happened and wgat to do. Don't waste your time and energy trying to figure it out yourself.
Very distressing for you.

TomatoSandwiches · 11/09/2024 20:27

I think I would get pest control in for that many maggots, they may have ideas about what's caused it as well so you can avoid it in the future, they see all the ways things like this happen.

VeryQuaintIrene · 11/09/2024 20:28

They really do look like carpet moth larvae to me (from experience). Are your carpets wool? Because they love that.

i had an ex who was an avid fisherman.. and he admitted to me that when he broke up with someone, he would pour maggots through their letter box in the middle of the night, by morning they would have wiggled away and a few weeks later their house would be infested with flies!

he cheated and i threw him out, and hey presto one night, my dog was going mad and i got up to see what the racket was and there were maggots all over the mat!

there are some really nasty people out there

@VeryQuaintIrene

Don't know what material the carpet is. Bought it from ikea.

Jesus christ what a psycho! I can't believe he even admitted that to you either. I wouldn't stay with someone who told me that!

Dunnoburt · 11/09/2024 20:47

Maggots will turn to flies and then die (obviously will reproduce if there is something for the larvae to eat)......for maggots in the first place there must have been a food source (cat/dog food, any kind of meat in a bin etc.).....once you find the food source you will stop the cycle.... you'll have loads of flies once the maggots have castored and hatched.........I spilt a whole pint of maggots in my car once (angler!)....... once the initial hatching was over there were no more maggots as there was no food...... I'm sure it's a one off, (dead mouse etc.) just air the house when they start to hatch into flies!

eggandchip · 11/09/2024 21:00

If it was me id turn my home upside down till i found the problem.
I just wouldent rest.
No advice sorry.

buddybean · 11/09/2024 21:12

@eggandchip

I have been doing the same from the past 9 hours. I found loads of them in the storage (but not a single food item there). After cleaning all of that I haven't seen more maggots any now. Hoping for the best tomorrow morning.

Don't panic!
It's a dreadful time of year for flies. It will pass. If its a dead mouse somewhere nearby you should be grateful it's been disposed of quickly.
I would save the expense of pest control if you can just wait and see for a week

I wouldn't have broken up with him knowing that was coming. I'd have quietly moved away and not told him where! What a creep

yeah i think at the time of telling me he thought he was safe! sadly his dick got him caught and instead of talking me round, i hoofed him out!
