Today morning during my routine kitchen cleaning I found two maggots under the carpet. I got paranoid and started cleaning the entire kitchen and living room and now nearly a hundred maggots have been found. I cleaned everything and sprinkled salt in the corners I found maggots. What do I do? We have been away for a month for the school holidays. I have checked everything the pantry and other cupboards are clean. Maggots only on the floor. I hate it. Please help pleassseeee

You have carpet in the kitchen?

ThePoetsWife · 11/09/2024 19:39

Any flies around?

You have carpet in the kitchen?

That my was my question 😅 I would have thought that's the obvious cause!

There must be something somewhere rotting. Sorry, I know that’s grim. Are you sure there’s no food right at the back of the cupboard that’s gone rancid while you were away? Or… a rat under the floorboards?

buddybean · 11/09/2024 19:42

Carpet in the hallway in the entrance. There were maggots near the shoe rack and everywhere. Nothing in the living room but in the kitchen and near entrance of the home. Sorry English is not my first language

Forget the salt. Find the food source. Was the bin emptied before you went? Have you got rat/mouse traps set anywhere?

ThePoetsWife · 11/09/2024 19:47

Ah ok - probably something has died, check inside the shoes

WutheringMights · 11/09/2024 19:50

Sounds like moth larvae to me - especially as you mentioned carpet.

buddybean · 11/09/2024 20:02

I emptied the bin and the entire fridge before going on holiday. We were back a week ago everything fine. These maggots started today. I just wanna cry. I got an iud fitted on Monday and now got my periods( i was expecting them) flowing like a river, the maggots, a pounding headache a poorly toddler 😭I'm feel I am going to collapse.

@OffensiveUsername

Nope. I however checked the front garden and the backyard for any dead animal. All seems fine

WonderingWanda · 11/09/2024 20:05

I think they sound like carpet beetle larvae.

buddybean · 11/09/2024 20:07

@WonderingWanda

No they look like maggots as per Google pics.

Could you post a photo?

Could it have been dirt stuck in the tread of the shoes which had fly eggs in?

buddybean · 11/09/2024 20:11

These I cleaned from the coir doormat.

Could they have come under the front door? We had them in our outside bin when we went on holiday and they made their way under the garage door (bin was next to the garage door) and we found them in all the crevices of the garage and under the floor mats for a couple of weeks 😩You will need to keep checking and removing them because they turn into a pupae stage (they look like a piece or wild rice) before they turn into a fly so you need to get rid of maggots/ pupae and flies as they appear to break the cycle or they will look for food and start the whole thing up again. It is properly grim, you have my sympathy!

PortiasBiscuit · 11/09/2024 20:12

Do you have a cat, they may have brought an animal in that has died?

buddybean · 11/09/2024 20:13

@PortiasBiscuit No I don't have any pets

@tootiredtobeinspired

Ooh yes I have seen a few brown ones hanging by the door. Might be the cocoon stage

OP posts:
PortiasBiscuit · 11/09/2024 20:14

Or maybe corpse under the floor board?

TomatoSandwiches · 11/09/2024 20:14

Have you spilt anything meaty/bloody in the recent past or bin juice drippings ( sorry tmi )

buddybean · 11/09/2024 20:15

@PortiasBiscuit

Oh no sounds scary but my kitchen floor is tiled.

@TomatoSandwiches

I clean and kitchen and mop it with dettol every other day as I have a toddler. Everything was fine yesterday. Today I accidentally found one and the started cleaning the kitchen again and saw these maggots. There weren't there yesterday I am sure😔
