Don't be ignorant, or you will lose Netflix

gardenmusic · 11/09/2024 08:59

I have just had an e-mail from 'a trusted sender' (it says so, so it must be true)

Apparently my payment for Netflix has not gone through, so my membership cannot be renewed, and I must send them my bank details!
They are quite cross with me - 'In case of ignorance, my account will be terminated'.
I have never had Netflix, they seem quite harsh!

sounds legit, send them your bank details asap

gardenmusic · 11/09/2024 09:01

I can't, I'm too ignorant!

If you send me 10k I'll have a word with them.

It's probably the Netflix that has made you so ignorant. They're doing you a favour. Write back and thank them immediately.

Gosh, thanks! I presume bit coin will be preferred? Send me your bank details.

I'm also in danger of losing Spotify, Microsoft, Disney, McAfee, oh lots of things. Strangely, I get a flurry of these all from the same address. Then I get email which has an attachment but a nonsense subject and a few days later I get the ' you naughty person you're watching porn, send me bitcoin' one.
It would be laughable, but I'm sure some poor sod falls for it.

SweatySpaghetti · 11/09/2024 10:00

I’m a specialist based in Nigeria who deals with spam emails, if you send me 20k I can easily look into resolving this problem for you.

NewGreenDuck · 11/09/2024 10:15

Hilariously I have just received 2 emails telling me that my AVG subscription has expired and my device is infected. Different addresses this time.
Please can 1 of you help me. I can't do bitcoin though.

TickingAlongNicely · 11/09/2024 10:17

I've got your Evri parcel, if you send me a tenner I'll forward it to you

NetballHoop · 11/09/2024 10:30

Apparently I've been caught "pleasuring" myself on my webcam. I wonder if I ask them nicely, would they send me a copy as I it's been a while since I saw any action of that kind?

ClockwiseHoneysuckle · 11/09/2024 10:41

Tell them you need their account name and bank details in order to send the payment.

ICallPeopleDudeNow · 11/09/2024 10:52

I'm feeling rather left out now. The best thing I've had recently is an email from 'Screwfix' telling me I've won a 43-piece set of spanners... Grin

MeowCatPleaseMeowBack · 11/09/2024 10:54

My best one recently was from Temu saying I could buy a hideous princess dress for 43p if I downloaded their app.

Oh no wait, that is their actual geniune marketing strategy.

NewGreenDuck · 11/09/2024 10:55

Have you had the offer of 36 pieces of Tupperware though?

ClarasZoo · 11/09/2024 11:00

I have been on the brink of termination several times, then it was terminated, then it was not and I had one last chance, now I am on the brink again. I can't understand why they keep doing this as a send them my card details and PIN number each time they ask.

NewGreenDuck · 11/09/2024 10:55

I have! Sad to say I'm of an age where for a split second I was tempted, before remembering I have 392 plastic takeaway boxes from China in my cupboard already.

gardenmusic · 11/09/2024 11:06

ClarasZoo Well, you do like to live life on the brink!
I am rather tempted by the Tupperware and spanners, though.

I believe the government phishing site sends them a nice virus.

Actually, I am that idiot!
I had an e-mail a couple of years ago from Parcelforce, click to track delivery.
Thing is, I really was expecting something by courier.
I clicked. Root virus, it was a blackmail page, which I couldn't shift without sending money to some american site, could not get round it.
I paid £80 at the computer shop to get it removed.
I would not have clicked without an expected delivery.

The problem is, this seems funny but when you have older relatives who are not compos mentis they send their details or get upset and it's very hard to do anything about it remotely.

I can remember my dad and uncle having terrible trouble with my grandfather and Readers Digest.

These scams work because they seem feasible!

Hoppinggreen · 11/09/2024 11:18

Well Elon Musk wants to give me $4 million in Tesla shares.
Seems totally legit

Surely they should be paying you

GalaticalFarce · 11/09/2024 11:30

My Netflix account is being suspended due to ignorance too. I only just started The Perfect Couple so now Im worried.
They did thank me for trusting them though so that's quite nice.

2Old2Tango · 11/09/2024 11:32

I've had the parcel one too. Apparently it doesn't have my full address on it so I need to click a link to complete it so they can make the delivery. The organisations I [don't] order from are all bad though, because I've had a few now who haven't put my full address on.
