Happy to see Princess Kate doing so well, but...

I'm really glad to see Kate doing so well, and I am glad she has finished chemo looking so healthy and happy. However my sister and I cannot stop laughing at the video Kensington Palace have just released.

We think the video has a striking resemblance to the Twilight films, only warm toned and shorter.

Narration - check
Holding hands while lying down in a meadow - check
Tree climbing - check
Stacks of logs - check
Dramatic sweeping shots of trees - check

I was waiting for William to say something really cringy while giving Kate a piggy back ride.

'The late Queen and King Charles would never make a fuss they just get on with it.'

Which is exactly what Kate was doing prior to all the horrendous media and social media crap that went on earlier in the year - all the 'where is Kate', accusations of cover ups, accusations she was dead, murdered, separated, divorced, abused, beaten up, having cosmetic surgery etc etc etc.

The critics want the rf to modernise, be less stuffy, so when they do that, they're still criticised.

That image is comedy gold.

I just saw Hadyn Gwynne and Harry Enfield doing that!

interesting take on the video on this podcast.

Some people I’ve seen today thought it was ok some people thought it was twee. I’m undecided- got splinters on my arse.

Clearly some people will like it and some won’t.

Like most things in life please yourself as you can’t please everyone. I think after the year Kate has had she’s entitled to please herself.

Charles didn't hide what he had so there was no speculation. I think Kate felt wanted and loved by the people and that's why she is giving us these updates. It does look cringe and staged and in time if they continue they will get better at it. I hope we see more of it as they navigate through SM. All celebrities in the public eye are criticised and Kate is no different.

The Internet is full of crap like this though. They would be better off just going about their business and ignoring it. They have people to read their Instagram, they don't rely on public opinion or engagement to keep their jobs, nor do they need to be popular. Literally all they have to do is do a few charity visits, turn up and wave in public a few times and shut up. William will still be King, barring him doing something truly awful.
'Ihave cancer so I won't be doing engagements' ' I've finished my chemo so will do a few engagements. Thanks to the medical profession'. End of story.

I would rather we had the old fashioned Royals who smiled and waved and didn't pretend they could solve climate change/homelessness/ early years education while they sit on vast wealth having smoke blown up their arses for doing the bare minimum.

I thought it was lovely also, seems quite nasty to be laughing at someone's celebration of being cancer free.

Yep. I am absolutely not a royalist by any means, but as someone who has watched friends go through the hardships of cancer treatment (and some not make it) I think she can celebrate any fucking which way she wants that she is still here and can still be a mother to her children.

It may be a PR video but she's right, it does give you a new perspective and put the important things in life first.

Mocking this is really rather horrible OP. I guess you've never lost someone to cancer?

Leniriefenstahl · 10/09/2024 14:34

There are other shite diseases apart from Cancer that can kill you. Hate this league of awful diseases.

ArtyStars · 10/09/2024 14:35

I think it's sad that people don't seem to value dignity anymore. Their own and others' dignity.

I thought Kate was incredibly dignified in this video and this was her voice, not contrived like her nemesis. The whole family has bags of personality and Kate unashamedly projected her voice, her experience, her memories.Good on her.

if you contrast this little family film with all the other godforsaken garbage on the internet there is really rather very little to criticise, unless, perhaps people prefer the nasty, violent, spiteful content that is drowning nice voices like a tsunami of shit. imo.

Not for me. I can see her main page but not the video. Maybe it's followers only.

It’s in this article too perhaps that will work (you prob need cookies enabled)

Aww you and your sister sound absolutely lovely, laughing at someone who’s made an expressive video after they’ve faced cancer.

would love to see you both, bet you’re perfect. Why don’t you come up with a video of you both, wonder what the comments would be!

Why are you so defensive? You can absolutely find something funny but at the same time wish someone well?

Stickinthemuddle · 10/09/2024 14:55

There’s a tweet where they put the Succession theme over it which once you’ve seen it with the sepia cut backs you can’t unsee…

it’s a bit cringe but beautiful and I see why they’d do it

SickOfTheRoad · 10/09/2024 15:01

It's very slick to the point of feeling forced and fake. Even people I know that really like them have said they cringed when watching. I think they've seen this as an opportunity to get away from the reputation of the royals being cold fish.

She could be dead next year though, and thinking that, I don't suppose it really matters in the grand scheme of things.

Anyone thinking this is an insight into their real life is deluded.

Tumblingjungleofchaos · 10/09/2024 15:06

Fleecedandzipped · 10/09/2024 00:05

Oh dear lord! What were they thinking? It's just like an advert. Not at all the sort of thing I would expect from the royal family.

Dare I say, it seems very un-British? We of the stiff upper lip wouldn't normally condone such flowery sentimentality.

A simple written notice or a press statement would have been sufficient.

Un-British for the boomer generation and above maybe - the "stiff upper lip" mentality is now rightly seen as terrible for mental health and self esteem.

Pushing all emotion and trauma down inside you really isn't healthy and I'm so glad younger generations now talk about issues, seek help and openly discuss mental health.

I lost someone to mental health issues decades back in the days when it was all glossed over and ignored. Times have changed and so they should. Thank goodness.

What about the dignity of NHS cancer patients who have had their operations cancelled three times in a row?

Someone in my family is waiting for a colostomy bag reversal and their operation has just been delayed for another four months which means her phased return to work plans are on hold again. Trying to manage a colostomy bag in a fast paced work environment is not very dignified I assure you.

What about the dignity of cancer sufferers on here who says that this video highlights social inequity? Do their words not matter?

Virtually no one has mocked or been horrible to C & W personally; 99% of posters on this thread have wished them well as they would anyone else who is struggling with cancer.

Criticising a contrived video which highlights social inequality is a different thing entirely and I can’t understand how some posters can’t seem to understand that!

Waddabouchi · 10/09/2024 15:24

The 'let's see how you cope' is not very kind, at all. People will always have different views. You may not agree with them but please don't retaliate - we are all entitled to our own opinion. 👍

Misfitmissy · 10/09/2024 15:36

Kate said her chemo therapy has ended and she is focussed on remaining cancer free, KP spokesman said she is not in remission and William said today to a well wisher that there is a long road ahead.
Does anyone have a clue what this means. I get that with any cancer you live from scan to scan but if chemo is finished why the certainty of a long road ahead?

CurlewKate · 10/09/2024 15:38

It's not a "little family film". It was made by the videographer who produces the UberEats and Tesco Love Food campaigns. Nothing wrong with getting a professional in-but let's not pretend that the family popped out one afternoon with a box Brownie!

That 100% explains why it is like an advert for something that's going to improve your life.

To me it's like a come to Centre Parcs for some 'relaxing quality family time in the wholesome countryside'

I think someone also likened it to a 'tampax' or 'tena lady' ad.

Wonderful advert but maybe not the vibe they were trying to get across.

I think Kate and William could have done a very short video similar to the one she did to start with.
With thanks to the hospital staff, the school who supported the kids, etc etc.
And a nod to others who are going though the same thing, with money worries, issues with childcare, would have been nice.

Ha. Really? That explains a lot.

BettyBardMacDonald · 10/09/2024 16:23

Good point about thanking the school staff as well as HCP.

Lunatuna1234 · 10/09/2024 16:31

Im so happy for her. For me the video expressed most the massive relief she is now feeling and so is very emotional and perhaps slightly overdone as a result. Its a video of a time and place and I totally get where she is coming from. However I think she was badly advised . I think this could upset people who are still dealing with this illness and is not going well , it could upset people who have had a cancer journey that has been made worse by NHS cutbacks, it could upset the front line workers who were not mentioned in this video and who were key in her and all cancer survivors recoveries. The thing is when Kate posts she is posting as the future queen and not just a private individual and a balanced approached is necessary.

Yes,I wonder this as well.
She says "my path to healing and full recovery is long" . That's hard to hear, but it will increase speculation and I think she would have been wise to use different ones."Although my chemo has finished I am not yet back to full health"
I do think there's something seriously wrong.

Edited

my Mum wasn't officially given the all clear following her cancer treatment until 5 years later. 5 years seems to be the magical number when they decide the cancer is in remission because it's stayed away for an extended period of time.

Ghilliegums · 10/09/2024 16:55

I wonder if she's looking at a very serious diagnosis actually
