Happy to see Princess Kate doing so well, but...

I'm really glad to see Kate doing so well, and I am glad she has finished chemo looking so healthy and happy. However my sister and I cannot stop laughing at the video Kensington Palace have just released.

We think the video has a striking resemblance to the Twilight films, only warm toned and shorter.

Narration - check
Holding hands while lying down in a meadow - check
Tree climbing - check
Stacks of logs - check
Dramatic sweeping shots of trees - check

I was waiting for William to say something really cringy while giving Kate a piggy back ride.

The Succession theme tune is brilliant,it was really asking for something like that! 🤣

ciderhouserules · 10/09/2024 09:37

Well I'm not a royalty fan, and I haven't seen the whole vid, just Stills of highlights bits. And I'm happy that a relatively young women, a mother of young children, is in remission from this bastard disease.

BUT - I look forward to Charles's 'remission video' - he can waft through a field, hug a few trees, Camilla can follow along with an adoring smile on her face <fag edited out>. Charles can lay his head lovingly on her shoulder, while she looks vacantly into the distance <fag-smoke photoshopped out> and their loved ones (dogs? Horses? Footmen?) gambol about on logpiles.

What the hell are they thinking off? Is this how it is in the 2000s? No class? No grace? Can you imagine the Queen doing something like this?

I'm 60 and I cringe at this.

How creepy.

@Whatevershallidowithmylife 💐💐

Who are you referencing and why? I know who you called creepy is referencing but not you. Are you a regular on the RF board can people have a different opinion on these boards?

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 10/09/2024 09:50

Of course different opinions are fine. Discussion forums would exist otherwise!

what I think is creepy is commenting about posters elsewhere.

Do those complaining that Catherine got the best treatment available feel the same way about TLQ? Would you feel better if they'd taken up NHS resources instead?

She's finished her Chemo, hopefully the cancer will never return. She's allowed to be happy about that after an awful time, and nobody is forced to watch the video message. If it was a formal announcement people would have complained, if they'd said nothing they would have been attacked too. She's a cancer sufferer yet she's fair game for all sorts of nasty attacks.

You're getting it wrong cancer sufferers want the same treatment and the same opportunities. Is that a bad thing to wish for? I haven't seen any attacks against Kate. If you read carefully people are mainly criticising the NHS not Kate. I think they are entitled to feel upset or even triggered. I don't think they should be silenced because you don't agree with them and their pain. Give them the same empathy and compassion you are giving to the PoW.

Meecrowavay · 10/09/2024 09:56

I take your point onboard @dappled but actually, I too am genuinely pretty ambivalent to them yet my impression is still that William doesn't work as much as other senior royals and I know that's shared with lots of people my age and even my parents have shared the same observation lately. He also gets treated with a lot of leniency in this regard, in the mainstream press. Which makes you wonder the extent of the deals he's done there. A twisted web, I'm sure.

But I've commented on here, so yeah like yourself, care enough to comment, yada yada.

Ahem you're making a lot of assumptions here. I've had five abdominal surgeries for ovarian cancer so I know a little bit about it, and the long term impact on health. I think there is a lot of criticism of POW on this thread. I'm allowed to comment on that, and disagree with it. She's incredibly young to have gone through this and it wouldn't matter what she said or did, she'd be criticised.

Camilla with a fag in her hand twirling around accidentally setting fire to the meadow, whilst Charles merrily frolicks along flying a kite 😂

😂...kneeling down singing while fawns and bunnies gather around...actually maybe not kneeling, we get to a certain age and we need to be helped up, though there'll be a flunky on hand to do that I expect.

My dh always cries at russel crowe going back to his son and wife

The Gladiator soundtrack was beautiful but disappointingly the lyrics to 'now we are free' are complete tosh.

It would have been a great opportunity to highlight the hard work of the people who treat cancer, and perhaps the continued need to carry out research. Instead it was a smug advert for herself and her picture-perfect family. They live a life of unparalleled luxury based on money we have given and carry on giving them. It's putrid.

I do agree with this in part. One of my main thoughts is wow, they have a whole forest just for themselves. I can’t imagine they would be running into the plebs. Just having the time and space to skip around a private forest without worrying about work or having to get home to cook and clean. It’s not very relatable. I think if you’ve lived in this bubble all your life you probably don’t realise how tone deaf it all seems. The Queen would never have done something like this, and I imagine Charles is mortified. However, I wish them well and am very glad C is over the worst.

I think it seems a bit self absorbed and I do think they should have highlighted the work of cancer charities, but then people would be trying to guess what sort of cancer is involved based on which charities they chose.

StrugglingGrief · 10/09/2024 10:18

Let’s hope C gets involved with some cancer charities now.

The Royal family are already involved with Cancer Charities and being patrons.

I have been through cancer treatment and I was surprised how emotional I felt watching that video.

I am sorry to hear that my late mother had endometrial cancer and my uncle had cancer on his neck. They were always telling me how weak they felt after treatment. More people under the age of 50 is being diagnosed with cancer every year. The papers are talking about it. A lot of people can't relate to Kate she's like marmite.

Cancer cases in under-50s worldwide up nearly 80% in three decades, study finds

More than a million under-50s a year dying of cancer and figure projected to rise by another 21% by 2030

My biggest take away from it was that it is actually really dangerous to climb on stacks of logs like that.

With the massive international reach of this I can't believe this was not picked up on. Feeling sorry for whoever is doing comms at the forestry commission tonight/ tomorrow

😂I like your attention to detail.

Yeah my Mum was 40 when she first got cancer, I was 48 but the increase in the young getting bowel cancer is really worrying. I've lots of damage due to mistakes made during the first emergency surgery, but I suspect you never feel the same after cancer whatever people say. Its just so grim.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 10/09/2024 11:13

I don't know what some posters expect/want in a situation like this.

Yes Catherine is living a life of privilege beyond any of our dreams. She will never know what it's like to be unable to access life saving treatment for herself or her family. And I'm quite sure she's acutely aware of it.

Is there a threshold one need to reach to talk about shit things that happen? Minimum income for example? Or is it a case of if life is generally rosy you can fuck off because you are therefore undeserving of empathy and compassion?

Those of you criticising the film and Catherine for daring to not be in a race for the bottom - if you are prolific on SM I'm quite sure that relatively speaking, some of the inane shit you (and all of us) post screams of privilege to someone else who is poorer/less fortunate.

As a pp said - it's a film a mum has shared about recovery, family and love and putting stuff in perspective. I don't get the need to tear that down.

I don't expect or want anything really. However I am allowed to voice my thoughts on it which isn't tearing her down it's just my personal preference about this types of videos. I find them all cringe no matter who makes them.

Meecrowavay · 10/09/2024 11:27

Also surprising that they didn't manage to segue Paddington f*cking Bear into it somehow too. Maybe they could save his cameo for the Charles and Camilla version. Paddington smokes, right?

I loved it. After the all the speculation and downright nastiness directed at Kate through her illness I think she’s quite right to take control and put out what she pleases. I mean we’re all interested in one way or another or wouldn’t be on this thread. Good for Kate!
