What do you think happens after you die ?

I’m waiting on “you’ll be dead and that’s that“ 🤣
but genuinely curious as to what everyone else thinks happens , I know it’ll be like before you were born , you won’t know but what if after life/recantation is a thing ? I’ve come to terms with the fact tomorrow isn’t promised but what if there’s afterlife and we get born into a horrible abusive family ? In that case I think I’d rather just be nothing ? What you all think ? Love to read these threads thought I’d make one myself 😆

I’ve said what I think. 🤷🏼‍♀️

You don’t have to like it, but I still have as much right as anyone else to say it.

@AgileGreenSeal

of course you do, & you did.

but now you're preaching at people who have different opinions. Repeatedly.

this is what happens

no, this is your opinion of what happens, that's all.

They’ve rocked up on a couple of threads recently — there’s also another current thread about whether 21st century religion is more about culture than belief, which has attracted posters using exactly this kind of US TV evangelical language. Either they just pop out of the woodwork when someone says something about their Lord and Saviour that they don’t like, or Mn is being targeted. They’re not doing their faith any favours, either way. They seem bizarrely underinformed about uncontroversial facts widely accepted by theological/ early church historians, and just keep banging away at the old Bible Bingo.

Yes it’s not really a British thing, it’s very much an American thing though. We’ve been watching some YouTube videos on Trump supporters (all evangelical/fundamentalist type Christians ) and their views are really mind blowing. They seem to be one homogenous blob of plaid shirts, maga baseball caps and a very warped sense of what Christianity is as opposed to what it should be. A very intolerant bunch of people. I can never quite believe that a supposedly loving god would ever want these kind of people anywhere near him.

I am mainstream christianity. So it is either Heaven or hell. Sorry if this is not what you wanted to hear or if I rained on atheists parades

Out of curiosity, who goes to hell? Is it anyone who isn’t a Christian? And so all the evil murderers and drug dealers who pray to god to go heaven?

Surely “chat” means an exchange of opinions? A conversation?

Why is it offensive to you if I engage in conversation/ chat/ discussion with another poster?

Lots of posts on this thread are stating the beliefs of all kinds of posters in absolute terms. When you are fully convinced of your opinion that’s not an uncommon way to express it.

Are we all expected to preface everything we say with “in my opinion”? Obviously it’s my opinion or I wouldn’t be saying it 🤷🏼‍♀️

in answer to your question
“Who goes to hell?”

Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.”

no I won’t “scoot off”

I’ve as much right as anyone else to say what I think here.

If someone asks a question and I’m able to give an answer I will do so. You and everyone else can do the same thing.

Well, I have been on MN for some years now, before I came back to my faith around 15 months ago. I do listen to quite a few American evangelists though (might be why I come across that way?) also left my 'happy clappy' Church in favour of a more orthodox version. Have a LOT to learn still, but I will speak up if I feel led to do so, whether anyone considers it Bible Bingo or not! 😅

I guess you do Bible Study. Do you ever worry if you’ll go to hell or are you sure you’ll be in heaven?

Anyone who has not accepted the Lord Jesus as their saviour, and repented of their sins. So if an evil murderer does accept Jesus, not just 'in words only' as I'm sure some have done in order to look better, but in honest repentence, then they will be in Heaven one day, yes. But if you accept Jesus then you would not be continuing on in your sin, so you wouldn't carry on murdering or supplying drugs.

After being 'born again' as some like to call it, there's an ongoing process of 'sanctification' that occurs as the Holy Spirit continues to work on transforming the believer into a more Christ-like person. This process continues over one's lifetime. So no Christian can call themselves 'perfect' as none are, in fact we are very aware of our shortcomings. Over time though we should be changing and becoming more like Jesus. It's not an easy road to follow.

Edit: Also there are many 'in name only' Christians who won't be in Heaven!

What exactly is heaven anyway?

MsJinks · 09/09/2024 11:13

I sometimes envy (some) people their strong faith. Some beliefs on heaven do concern me though - If I was in anyway in danger of getting to heaven by following the principles outlined (I doubt I’m good enough by a long shot!) then I do honestly think I’d feel sad/uncomfortable that many people burned whilst I had joy. Particularly perhaps if they were very good people who just didn’t follow the ‘right’ religion. I know many religions, including Christianity until relatively recently, do not consign people to hell but even just leaving them ‘dead’ seems unfair tbh - though personally eternity actually does blow my mind a lot more than just being ‘dead’.
I struggle with the absolute ‘I’m right’ aspect of some religions/religious followers and ‘you are so wrong you can never know grace or heaven or whatever’ - in all aspects of religion tbh not just the death/afterlife part.

No need to worry about it, it’s all a lot of nonsense.

@BunnyLake I think it means that those who are humble and willing to help the poor will be preferred in heaven* over those who make a big deal of being noticed helping out in public or are ostentatious in their worship.
*No I have not yet formed an opinion about the form of Heaven.

No-one can know for sure, only what we have in the Bible - a place where there is no sin, no more tears, no more illness, no death. It's hard to imagine I think because we are so used to this world.

Revelations ch 21 and 22 are probably the best places for a description. There will be a new Jerusalem where Jesus will reign as King. The tree of life will straddle the river that flows from God's throne. Revelations describes the city as being built of pure gold. I think this is probably hyperbole, more likely means it's incredibly beautiful and there is no darkness at all.

Ezekiel Ch 40-48 also describe the Temple in the new Jerusalem in great detail. The Earth will be a 'new Earth' so there will be more to Heaven than just Jerusalem. Will be very exciting and wonderful I'm sure!

CrunchyCarrot · 09/09/2024 11:37

I do think people who say that sort of thing are not mature in their faith. Anyone can receive God's grace.

A believer cannot boast about being 'right' as if they are better, because it is only by God's grace they are saved, not because of anything they have done. I can't tell someone 'you will never be saved' because it's not up to me, but to God. I WILL say you can only come to God via Jesus, but I will NOT say 'you can never come to God' because it's not up to me!

SnowFrogJelly · 09/09/2024 11:37

SnowFrogJelly · 09/09/2024 11:38

There is no heaven..

MsJinks · 09/09/2024 11:43

I don’t normally comment on people’s beliefs - we all have different ones or different ‘nons’ and we should all respect that.
But I did want to say that John of Patmos was definitely isolated and possibly using the island’s plants when writing Revelations- I believe that it is specifically written in a certain style of excess too, and focussed against the Roman Empire - it was actually debated whether it should be included in the New Testament too.
I think it’s reasonable, if not obvious, many others don’t, or won’t, therefore accept it/base all predictions of heaven on this one piece of (paid for as well) writing.
I do know JWs particularly reference this book, maybe evangelists do too but I don’t know - and it’s fine to have solid, evidenced to you, beliefs - but it would be perhaps helpful to reference your standpoint to others when posting and understand it’s not going to be believed by others just because there is referenced a debatable piece of literature.

Exciting and wonderful for how long? Are we in bodily form? If not what form? I think it’s important to know these things rather than just try to interpret a book written by humans.

Just as an aside I wonder why of all the places on earth God decided the Middle East was the place to be. And why that particular time period? Has he said why (I haven’t read the bible obviously).
