What do you like on your crumpets?

Time of day affects toppings for me- in the morning if I were to have a crumpet, it's strictly toasted with butter. Mid afternoon, I'd go for butter, thin layer of marmite and a slice of cheddar. Evening crumpet- crumbled blue cheese and a drizzle of honey.

It sounds like I eat crumpets three times a day, but actually I remember to buy a pack once in a blue moon and remember how good they are Grin

Genuinely shocked at the PPs who have theirs 'lightly toasted'! Mind = blown 😯

Inspireme2 · 08/09/2024 11:23

Butter & Jam
Golden syrup

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 08/09/2024 11:32

Properly toasted, good salted butter, smear of marmite.
I now want crumpets and don't have any 😭

TeaAndCakeFTW · 08/09/2024 11:33

Butter, butter and more butter.

Sometimes marmite.

Rarely a plastic cheese slice.

CoastalCalm · 08/09/2024 11:35

Butter honey and salt ideally Celtic

BobbyBiscuits · 08/09/2024 11:36

I like a very well cooked crumpet, with cheese on top that's melted all the way through and started to go crispy.
I also love them with tons of butter.
A sweet version that's actually amazing is jam and whipped cream.
But I have to be in the mood. And a semi-cooked, only just warm crumpet is the food of Satan! Has to be going brown and a bit hard!

BeeCucumber · 08/09/2024 11:40

I burn mine and then serve with at least an inch of real Cornish butter spread on top.

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 08/09/2024 11:48

Marmite and cheese. Pop in the airfyer for 7 minutes so it melts and goes crispy!

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 08/09/2024 11:50

Also they have to be sourdough crumpets! Will never go back to normal ones now I've tried them.

Nothing just by itself

Not even butter?!

Outrageous.

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 08/09/2024 11:54

very toasted w crunchy peanut butter (never smooth. An abomination. )

or

Very toasted with LOTS of butter and a slice of cold cheddar on top…if you can get black pepper cheddar even better!

Beansandneedles · 08/09/2024 11:54

At a festival years ago I visited a stall called Truly Crumptious who did the most incredible homemade crumpet and fab toppings. Cinnamon sugar, caramelised onion and cheese, marmite, classic butter. They could do no wrong. Tried to get them to be the food truck at my wedding but alas it was not meant to be :(

Shezlong · 08/09/2024 11:54

Butter of course. But I'm liking the sound of the butter and honey ones. I have some vair fancy honey I got in a Christmas hamper last year that I've been saving and I think an afternoon treat of toasted crumpets and honey is on the cards for today.
I do also like them with cream cheese and sliced cherry tomatoes but not as much as with butter so butter usually wins.

AIstolemylunch · 08/09/2024 11:57

Toasted both sides then under the grill with butter and a slice of cheddar until bubbling, brown sauce on top.

quirkyquerty · 08/09/2024 12:13

I've not considered a sweet crumpet- will try one with Jam. Also putting them in the air fryer to melt the cheese, I need to try that with the chilli jam that was recommended

Pâté.

Whatineed · 08/09/2024 12:20

Butter AND a whole Dairylea triangle smushed into the holes.

yeesh · 08/09/2024 12:21

I like a nice thick crumpet, warburtons are my go to. Then double toasted with lots of salted butter, I usually have pate on them at Christmas (as I always buy too much and then put it on everything) 😋

AhBiscuits · 08/09/2024 12:22

Butter and marmite. Or cheese. Or marmite and cheese.

SphinxOfBlackQuartz · 08/09/2024 12:23

The Great Trilogy: 3 crumpets, one with butter, one with butter and peanut butter, one with butter and jam.

JaneJeffer · 08/09/2024 12:23

Butter and maple syrup

Fontainebleau007 · 08/09/2024 12:24

Cheese or marmite

swedex · 08/09/2024 12:25

How has no one mentioned lemon curd!! 😋😋😋😋

TerrifiedandWorried · 08/09/2024 12:27

Butter and golden syrup

OlderMumx · 08/09/2024 12:32

Nowadays just butter. But growing up my mum used to add a pineapple ring topped with a square of cheese (the wrapped/processed kind) on top of the crumpet towards the end of grilling. I remember it as a nice treat at the time.
