Does anyone know if I can take a salad to the airport and through security?

I hate airport food and I would like to take a packed lunch with my to the airport and through security. I have a craving for a dressed salad. Does anyone know if I can take a salad dressed in mayonnaise through security or would the mayonnaise be considered a liquid? Will I play it safe and only bring sandwiches?

I don't see anything about a fork in this list. I see a spoon and a knife but no fork. A spoon is allowed but not a knife.

That what exactly I meant when I said the rules were “silent on forks”…

The list specifically allow spoons/ certain knives (size constraints), there’s no mention of forks so it’s down to the screeners, and as page one of the UK rules states: “Airport security staff will not let anything through that they consider dangerous”..

Don't be silly.

But seriously it's a fork. How on earth can that be classed as a weapon?

Surely plastic cutlery would be ok. Like a plastic spoon and fork.

I’m being silly? Okey-dokey.

Please do come back after your holiday and let us know how your salad smuggling, Fork Liberation Movement and Tupperware breakfast banditry got on.

🙄

Honestly, I was considering cancelling my Amex card which gives me complementary airport lounge access, but this entire thread alone is making me incredibly grateful to just quietly and unthinkingly avail myself of this option; rather than work out how to get mayonnaise into a ziplock baggie, or eat croutons with a plywood spork.

OP are you willing to sit in a hollowed out wheelchair that conceals a lazy Susan with all the various salad elements, failing that, just buy a salad on the other side! Airport travel is getting very complicated 😮‍💨

Thank goodness I'm quite happy with a Jet2 all day breakfast on the plane. I quite like them.

Please can this go in classics, that is all

I offered to make my partner a packed lunch but he doesn't want one. I think he prefers to have an allergy inclusive feel type of holiday starting from scratch and that means a breakfast and some drinks past security. So he will be looking for a table and I will sit with him. He can have his one thing and I will have my packed lunch for breakfast. Because we are travelling through the night.

I eat all sorts of things at any time of the day or night.

It's just a packed lunch, that is all.

This thread is fucking batshit! Why on earth would you travel over 4 hours with a salad going all limp and soggy, it’s so unnecessary! Why don’t you just eat a big meal before you leave? Why can’t people go a few hours without eating?

Sounds like you’re going to have a fun holiday with you Tupperware box 🙄

lolly792 · 07/09/2024 12:54

@AdviceNeeded2024 I know.... a limp salad with added chicken bits and a dollop of mayonnaise in a plastic box to be eaten for breakfast in an airport.... it's a batshit thread but I'm here for it!

BlushingBrightly · 07/09/2024 13:11

Would be a pisser if the craving for a salad had subsided by the time they're through security. Maybe OP will post another thread about her options then

@ilovesooty do you recommend that? Flying with Jet 2 later in the year(4 hour fight, over lunch time). Was wondering if it'll be a boots meal deal or something on the plane. I'm not really a salad person though lol.

I quite like the all day breakfast but it's not to everyone's taste I suppose!

I'm now picturing an Insta full of photos of the salad getting on to the plane/wearing sunglasses/relaxing by the pool/in front of a variety of local holiday landmarks. But that's probably because I'm a bit silly. 😄
