Does anyone know if I can take a salad to the airport and through security?

I hate airport food and I would like to take a packed lunch with my to the airport and through security. I have a craving for a dressed salad. Does anyone know if I can take a salad dressed in mayonnaise through security or would the mayonnaise be considered a liquid? Will I play it safe and only bring sandwiches?

Be careful OP. I once took a salad on my flight to this super part of Spainidorm that me and DH love going to but no one else knows about. I got it through customs ok but it was such a Massive DSalad that I was still eating it two weeks later and I missd my flight home in consequence.

I know that you are craving one but it is so easy to misjudge these things.

I don't care about salad but if someone took my Morrisons trifle I'd be really miffed.

@ChickenandaCanofCoke A meal deal would really have been a grim last choice for us, we wouldn't actually feel like getting those at 6am was a result. I think the bit that really put me in a right good ol stink was that T2 had been done up, to much fanfare, with a few new, interesting places to eat at... but there was blatantly not enough capacity for the amount of passengers in at that time. I shall DOUBLE the amount of granola bars next time.

😅 if you can have a little rant to your DH and throw some granola bars at him then please do. Us people watchers would remember you forever.

And there's never a bad time of day to eat those big beefy hula hoops!

The nuts won't make the plane. If you broke open a Waldorf salad next to me mid-flight you would be watching the business end of anaphylactic shock.

LizTruss · 05/09/2024 21:21

I waltzed through without a problem.

No one was giving a shite about your salad Liz, we were watching our pensions go tits up

Helenloveslee4eva · 05/09/2024 21:24

I can see a dressed salad being an issue.
I had sushi and they made me put the teeny soy sauce in my liquids bag 🤣

Jk987 · 05/09/2024 21:25

Get one in Pret after you go through security.

She said it would be made without nuts

Sprogonthetyne · 05/09/2024 21:27

The salad will be fine, the fork to eat it with, won't be. So I wouldn't unless your happy to pick up heavily mayonnaised lettuce with your hands.

dementedpixie · 05/09/2024 21:39

I'm sure plastic/wooden cutlery would be allowed

She's not craving the wal, just the dorf

I can't eat nuts due to GI issues so there won't be any nuts. I make a lazy Waldorf salad without the nuts. I don't fly well and I dont usually eat on planes especially on short flights within Europe. Any food I bring will be for the airport.

I fly a lot….well 4 times a year…..only ever once have I been asked not to eat nuts on a flight ……just peanuts…..and we weren’t asked until we were all seated on the plane….so any nuts would have already been brought on and in bags

I detect a segue into the controversial breakfast buffet for lunch topic

Oh yes. There was a whole thread on that recently. 😁

You have a craving? Are you going to the airport now? How much Mayo do you plan on putting on?

😂😂

Well our DC take their subway sandwiches.

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 05/09/2024 22:09

I took a sloppy tuna mayo sarnie through security no probs. I was worried they'd make me scrape the filling into one of those little bags. But they didn't. Phew.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 05/09/2024 22:11

Not relevant to the OP but I normally have a breakfast sausage sarnie at Spoons and save half of it for the plane! We tend to have early morning flights.

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 05/09/2024 22:21

Just buy a salad from Boots once you get there and nab a few sachets of Mayo from McDonald's or Burger King.

BlushingBrightly · 05/09/2024 22:21

Hang on, due to GI issues you can't eat raw onion, raw carrots, lettuce, greens, kale or nuts. But celery is fine?

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 05/09/2024 22:27

amerthecat · 05/09/2024 19:10

I had a small Morrison's trifle confiscated.

No way!! Fuck that I'd have been shoving it into my mouth using my fingers

My belly is so odd. I can eat some greens but just not too much of them. So you a caesar salad - a lot of it is lettuce. That would set me off big time and I would flare up and get sick. Too much cabbage can make me sore. I do attempt to eat some greens and I can some greens like spinach. Broccoli is out. I can't eat that. I can eat some celery but just not too much of it either.

I am exploring more with foods and it seems as if I can eat cooked onions but not raw onions. I can't eat coleslaw. Coleslaw will make me sick. Not straight away.
